Real life is keeping me occupied, so any time I come back here, it’s to post little comics about my emotionally deranged were-goblin girl and her life. This one was done for my older sister’s birthday (she specially requested for it) and it’s several months overdue, but finally got it done <3 hope you like it, sis
And making their debut is Alyssa! This is Maya’s and Blue’s child; biologically male, but comes out as non-binary in later life. They are named such since ‘A’ connotes ‘absence of’ and Lyssa was a deity of madness (so I heard).
‘Absence of madness’ - hopefully that is so for these three.
(Reader ID: A four-panel comic.
1st Panel shows Maya, an adult woman with brown skin and short white hair, holding a beer can. She is saying “It’s birthday time and you know what that means, Party Time!”
2nd Panel shows beer cans, burgers, French fries, and horror movie DVDs.
3rd Panel shows a cartoon figure of Maya dancing on the table and surrounded by pink figures. Yelling and expletives in the background. At the bottom, a speech bubble is seen - “Urmm, Maya?”
4th Panel shows the owner of that speech bubble - Blue, an adult male with beige skin and yellow hair. He is carrying Alyssa, a child with yellow hair and brown skin. Blue looks disdainful as he says “The birthday party is for Alyssa? Our child? Who turns three today?”
A speech bubble from Maya at the bottom says “Relax, dear. Cake’s still on the way. Burp”.
End ID.)

also it really takes the fear out of getting older when you realize that society has collapsed and we are no longer obligated, nor should we even be expected, to settle into Serious Adults in business suits with steady office jobs and 2.8 kids. there’s nothing to stop us from just gradually becoming more eccentric with each decade. we may not have retirement plans but we can plan to gradually evolve into the 80s van wizards our parents were too cowardly to become.

The first image shows a window with snowflakes flurrying outside. The first line from the song ‘Let It Snow’ is seen - Oh the weather outside is frightful
The second image shows a table with a tablecloth and food on it. One of the items on the table is a mini BBQ pit. The second line from ‘Let It Snow’ is seen, with an additional word - But the BBQ fire’s so delightful
The third image shows Maya, an adult woman with white hair and brown skin, in front of the window and table. The third line from Let It Snow - And since we’ve got no place to go
The final image shows Maya as a super-deformed caricature slapping two jellos in front of her. Instead of the expected fourth line from Let It Snow, which is Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, the line on this last image reads Le Tits Now, Le Tits Now, Le Tits Now. Two sources outside the frame yell at Maya, with one source saying ‘Maya, stop slapping the jellos!’ and the other source saying ‘That’s our dessert for later!’

Blue eventually becomes really good at singing hymns. Like, the church hymns variety.
Sirens are naturally and divinely gifted with forming songs right off the top of their heads, since they have to think on their feet to lure in their prey. They are somewhat appreciative of human-made music but will still believe themselves superior to humans in every way. Blue however, having plenty of exposure to humans, had dropped that mentality having made Doblo City his permanent place of residence.
Living on the streets after Mademoiselle Viva’s defeat and his banishment gave him more freedom to explore the city and mingle closely with humans, so he has encountered the few churches there. So he has heard the hymns being sung and after some time, he has memorised most of them by heart. He is not religious in any way; rather he finds the lyrics and melody comforting to him.
—-
Maya has also sung along every time he sang a hymn or two; she has also taught him a few, having been raised in a staunch Catholic household.
That was how she found out that if she sings at the same time he does, it helps to counter whatever effects his voice has on her. And if she sings extra loudly and extra tone deaf, she could cancel those effects out entirely...at the expense of everyone else’s eardrums, of course.
—-
While Blue stills needs human essence for sustenance, he can eat the same way as humans do and is careful about keeping the balance. He is also careful about feeding from innocents.
After becoming closer to Maya, they formed a mutual pact where Maya will become Blue’s main source of sustenance while helping him keep his powers in check. At the same time, Blue chooses to look out for Maya as well.
In a way, they have binded themselves to each other, both being the only individuals capable of taming the other.

Over the years, whether it was on my own or through role play sessions, I have started to form an idea of what Doblo City (and Walterland) will be like.
I suppose Doblo City will be something like a mish-mash of Portland and the Bronx, with brown-orange colours during the day and purplish-grey tones at night.
Walterland is more pastel, with whites, pinks, yellows, and lavender ruling the scene particularly during the daytime. Both places are connected via a train ride of at least an hour or so.
For Doblo City, I have imagined a few prominent places:
Mack’s Smicky-Smacks - This was mentioned in Maya’s thoughts prior to her first meeting with Blue, then called Clive Chanson. This is Doblo City’s most popular fast-food chain, kinda like MacDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, Denny’s, etc.
Other than fast food, Mack’s Smicky-Smacks also makes and sells their own confectionery...which may or may not be a good thing. Their apparent best-seller in this department is a foot-long chocolate-covered cylindrical wafer stuffed with marshmallows, melted caramel, and peanut butter. (I forgot the name, or maybe I did not give it one lol)
Glitter Cafe - This was mentioned in a role-played first meeting with Miguel and @smashingmirrcrs’s Ivrene where they visited another of Miguel’s favourite eateries - a cupcake cafe. While their wide variety of cupcake flavours have made Glitter Cafe a cult favourite in Doblo City’s food scene, the cafe’s selling point comes from what’s on the ceiling - the suspended aerial dancers.
Glitter Cafe has a high ceiling, so they took advantage of that by hiring aerialists to dress up like fairies and perform for cafe patrons while suspended from the ceiling. Of course, to maintain such a novelty ambience, patrons will have to fish out a little more than usual for a Glitter Cafe cupcake. Call it daylight robbery, call it a USP, whatever you fancy.
Confectionery Castle - A well-renowned candy franchise in Doblo City. You step in, and the only other thing you see other than the cashier is the rows and rows of stocked-up candy. The high runners behind this business are as filthy rich as the extensive range of confectionery they carry.
Which makes any Confectionery Castle outlet a good place for Jamboree to go all Robin Hood on, as mentioned in a thread with @rpstandsforroyalpigeon’s Grimm. After all, candy should be given to everyone, not just kept in a box.
Super SXXX - Just your run-of-the-mill hole-in-the-wall adult toy store. First mentioned in a thread between Jamboree and @alone-with-company’s Olivier; where Jamboree decides to break in and then intimidate Olivier with a bunny-shaped vibrator. No penetration was involved.
Star Sign (working name) - I can thank Hazbin Hotel’s ‘Addict’ MV for this burst of inspiration; this is the strip club Blue works at on some nights. I was thinking that maybe Doblo City can have a few themed strip clubs, just like what Portland has...so I heard.
Star Sign is themed around astrology, horoscopes, star signs, the zodiac, all that. So it has a mostly neon blue and black colour palette with galaxy and constellation motifs emblazoned everywhere. The club prides itself on being unisex and diverse, with dancers and workers from all genders and various walks of life. It is mostly a ‘topless bar’ with full nudity only between 12 midnight to two in the morning. Normal operating hours are from 9pm onwards.
The USP of Star Sign is not the toned bodies of the dancers or the nearly exclusive full frontal nudity - all dancers wear masquerade masks, giving them an air of mystery that keeps patrons coming back for more. The masks are designed after astrological signs, and so are the stage names. A certain dancer who calls themselves Pisces is one of the stand-out performers; club goers have gathered around the stage many times just to hear this dancer sing along to their performance set.
OOC Fun fact: When I went to Seattle last year, I managed to also visit Portland, the supposed strip club state. Visited only one strip club - Club Rouge. Spent only an hour there since I had to rush back to Seattle but that hour was worth it. I actually wanted to go back again this year, but yeah, no thanks to COVID-19.

🖊 - Blue
Like I have done with Maya, I will go through Blue’s backstory via his life stages. I have decided to make him around a year older than Maya.
(Trigger warning for abuse and implied rape, under 14 Years Old and 14 to 19 Years Old)
0 to 13 Years Old - Blue was born Ceruleo of the Brightwaters siren clan, which like most siren villages resides on a island somewhere near Greece. As per the laws of the clan, Ceruleo’s father was banished when his fourth child came out a son rather than a daughter. Ceruleo thus never knew his father.
Like the other male sirens, Ceruleo was raised to be subservient to his female peers, family and villagers alike. Treated like second-class citizens, male sirens served for breeding purposes, and the cycle of banishment upon bearing a son continues.
13 Years Old - While sirens were raised in island villages, it does not mean the island is secluded entirely from humans. In fact, Ceruleo’s island home was considered a tourist spot, good for curious visitors and perfect for the sirens to feed on their essences. However, most sirens choose to feed as they need without draining the human entirely, so they are pretty okay. But that does not make them all buddy-buddy with humans either, with some of their banishment laws revolving around involvement with humans.
Ceruleo was a curious, disgruntled child who wanted to see more of the world, and his chance to leave his cruel, stuffy home came in the form of a young tourist named Vincent Larome. Enthralled by the older man’s stories of life in his home at Doblo City and wanting to live there too, Ceruleo made the choice to run away with him in the middle of the night.
A choice he regretted too late.
14 Years Old - Ceruleo failed to see how much Larome was changing, and for the worst. He was so grateful to the man for taking him from his oppressive village that he was unaware that Larome only wanted to use his powers to make Doblo City worship him as his drag persona Mademoiselle Viva. Even with the beatings and verbal abuse, Ceruleo still believed that he will one day be of use to his benefactor.
One night, Viva’s work rival - a certain Ingrid Intoxicate/Mad Queen whom Viva once idolised until exposure to a certain cursed mirror - chanced on Ceruleo and tried to free him. Viva discovers her, and a scuffle breaks out during which Viva fatally stabs Mad Queen and escaped with Ceruleo, leaving Mad Queen’s bereft family to pick up the pieces.
14 to 19 Years Old - Mademoiselle Viva started her plan to take over Doblo City, with Ceruleo by her side as her trusted henchman. By this time, Ceruleo is uncertain of his future and wary about his master’s feelings towards him, which have taken a dark turn. He got what he wanted - seeing the world - but at what cost?
To spy on potential mind-slaves, Ceruleo was enrolled into Maya’s high school under the name ‘Clive Chanson’. While becoming the class idol due to his siren-blessed charisma, Ceruleo found it difficult to hold himself together due to what he had to do. Which is probably why the stoic and uncaring Maya became an enigma to him.
After a horrific encounter with the Lust of Jamboree, followed by Maya’s incessant apology and vow to make things up to him, Ceruleo discovered she and Jamboree are the same being, although he still had no idea of her link with the late Mad Queen. Eventually, Jamboree rescued Ceruleo and left Mademoiselle Viva to the authorities while she brought the siren to the docks. There, she turned back into Maya at his request and told him to never return to Doblo City. Ceruleo told her his real name before swimming off.
Ceruleo eventually made it back to his village, only to be told he had been banished due to being involved with a human. Seeing no other place to return to, Ceruleo swam back to Doblo City, changed his name to Blue, and started living on the streets. During his time there, he met other homeless folk and thus found a family of his own.
When Maya transformed into the Apathy of Jamboree, he paid his debt to her by singing her back and out of the sludge. She was unaware he had returned.
Early Twenties - As Maya started coming into her own and left for Walterland to start college, Blue managed to secure himself a small apartment. He decided to help protect Doblo City in his own way since Maya/Jamboree was absent. Later on, Maya sent a certain Cassandra Gothel (Tangled crossover, anyone?) to Doblo City to ‘fill her shoes’, particularly to properly atone for betraying and trying to kill Rapunzel. (Yeah, I have issues with how Cassandra got redeemed way too quickly)
Doblo City had several strip clubs, one of which required dancers to be masked, so Blue started working there as one a few nights a week. The strip club was themed based on star signs, astrology, and the zodiac, so Blue wore a mask based on those when working. During the day, he would work odd jobs, including working at a call centre part-time.
Maya eventually re-established contact with him. With his consent, she had crafted for him a magical necklace to keep his siren abilities from going overboard. Unlike Viva’s collar, Blue could at least take his necklace off, especially when he is trying to get a few rowdy customers off his colleagues. Because of this, he got called the ‘mama bear’ of the club, much to his initial chagrin. But he eventually warmed up to it.
After some back-and-forth with Maya, Blue formed a close relationship with her, supporting her even after she gave up her powers to give magic to Doblo City.
Early Forties - Blue has a child named Alyssa (either with Maya or with @rpstandsforroyalpigeon’s character Wallace with Maya as surrogate). Alyssa inherits Blue’s siren abilities, as well as some of Maya’s Jamboree powers. Blue works from home as a house husband, with part-time stints at the call centre and as a bartender at the club he used to dance for. He also helps Maya with technical set-up for her stand-up comedy acts.

🖊 - Jamboree
Jamboree is Maya, Maya is Jamboree. Enough said.
Except Maya spent most of her teenagehood pushing Jamboree to the corners of her mind and refusing to acknowledge Jamboree as a huge part of her psyche (well, at least aloud).
Jamboree first appeared in mini-Rage form when Maya was 13 years old, where she then proceeded to beat the crap out of a school bully who was making cruel remarks about her late friend. At the time, Maya was unaware about her father’s mysterious mirror, which acted as both a limiter and controller for her Jamboree persona. So her Rage form was more murderous-berserker back then. The bully however recovered from Jamboree’s onslaught, and continued making Maya’s high school life as hellish as possible.
The first manifestation of Jamboree’s more common form - the white slicked-back pixie do, the neon yellow skin, orange eyes, and literal face-splitting grin - was much later at night, when Maya is guided by her father’s spirit to the magic mirror (which has its own canon history, which I will get to someday).
Jamboree is Maya uninhibited, a physical form of the emotions Maya has pushed inside herself growing up.
—-
The form she has on a regular basis can be considered ‘Fun’ and ‘Joy’. She also has other forms based on the emotion she is representing at the moment. Her movements emulate a monkey and a spider, so she is pretty much agile and can scale a building at a frightful speed.
Her other forms comprise (from least harmful to most harmful) Sorrow, Rage, and Lust. She has one more - Apathy - which is both a separate being and a part of Maya, representing a complete void-out of her emotions.
When it comes to movement for the different forms, Sorrow’s can be compared to that of a praying mantis - a really sad, slow one. Rage moves like a silverback gorilla while Lust takes after a spider and a snake. Apathy moves like a super-speed shadowy slug.
—-
Presence-wise, Rage appears just a little less regularly than Joy - Maya had plenty of pent-up rage after all.
Sorrow makes the third most appearances, sometimes changing from Rage after a take-down; this depends if she had somewhat developed an emotional attachment to the subject at hand. One such case involved Maya’s former teacher who turned into a notorious criminal after accidental exposure to the mirror.
Lust seldom appears but that does not mean she is not a threat. In fact, Lust is the most dangerous out of the four main forms and if she manifests in front of you, RUN.
Apathy only appeared ONCE and was the cause behind the Blackout of Doblo City. To date, this form has yet to make a second appearance.
—-
It was in Maya’s mid-twenties that Jamboree ceased taking on a corporeal form when Maya uses her developed powers to bring back five of her students from the dead, after which the mirror and her powers seemingly evaporated from her being.
However, this does not mean that Jamboree as a personality ceased to exist.
After all, Maya is still Jamboree through and through, and at that point of time, she has acknowledged and embraced her goblin vigilante self as herself.

🖊 - Maya
(Trigger warning for suicide, around 7 paragraphs down)
Sometimes, to figure out the present, we need to track back to the beginning. Or some sentimental shiz like that. So we track Maya’s story via stages of her life.
0 Years Old - Maya Ingrid Anson was born on 1 April 19XX, the firstborn of Ian Anson and Maribel Deljas. Her brother Miguel was born six years later. It was Ian who gave Maya both her first and middle name, with Mary taking care of Miguel’s - ‘Ingrid’ comes from Ian’s drag name Ingrid Intoxicate.
1 to 13 Years Old - Maya grew up in the lower-tier suburbs of the fictional Selva Street, one of the many districts of the equally fictional Doblo City. Her close childhood friend was her neighbour Jason, and they became the ‘problem kids’ of the neighbourhood very quickly.
Maribel had grown many a grey hair every time she and Ian had to visit Maya’s school concerning some huge prank she and Jason has pulled. The prank she is most proud of to this day? Glitter-bombing her classroom before school starts.
13 Years Old - Maya unfortunately learns the hard way that certain behavioural traits should be hidden if she needs to go far in society, something drummed into her by her conservative mother. She is closer to Ian as he is more understanding of her childhood shenanigans, himself being in a similar position...and having his own secrets.
One night, Ingrid Intoxicate is found dead, stabbed multiple times and left in a back alley behind the club where she worked. Ian’s secret comes to light, pushing the Ansons into a ‘pariah’ position. Maribel slips into depression, while Maya had to protect herself and Miguel from harassment they were receiving at school. The school bullies’ favourite name for her? ‘Faggot’s Daughter’, something they scrawled on her locker on any other day.
Jason did his best to comfort her but his own issues at home eventually caught up with him, all without Maya noticing as she deals with her own pain. He finally throws himself off the school roof in front of her, leaving her mostly on her own.
Left with nobody on her side to guide her, with a dead father, struggling preteen brother, and emotionally absent mother, Maya had no outlet for the surge of emotions welling up inside her. This leads to Jamboree’s first appearance, manifesting through Maya by accident one day as she confronts a bully. One rough argument with her mother later, Maya is visited by her father in a dream who then points her to the mirror he had kept secretly by his side when he was still alive.
Maya had initially thought it was just an odd trinket her father had worn around his neck. But once she placed it around her neck, opened it, and looked at it for the first time, her bottled-up emotions manifest as Jamboree and her various forms.
13 to 18 Years Old - Moody high-school teen by day, mentally frantic goblin-like vigilante at night. Jamboree has built up a reputation as Doblo City’s urban legend and inherent guardian. While Maya is partially ashamed of this physical manifestation of her innermost self, she admits it does help to keep her mentally stable as she traverses teenagehood. As long as her family is safe, she would be fine.
Until they weren’t. Jamboree’s enemies decide to launch a full-out attack on a few neighbourhoods to maintain their control, and Maya’s mother and brother were caught in the fray. Believing her reason for holding on is gone, Maya snaps.
Her emotions flurried, then turned into a thick black sludge, turning Maya into the Apathy of Jamboree - part of her, yet a separate entity. The Apathy of Jamboree drags Doblo City into its void, causing the infamous Blackout of Doblo City. It was only through Maya’s allies - particularly her father’s ghost and a certain siren boy - that Maya starts to accept all of her madness and breaks out, taking down her enemies once again.
18 to 21 Years Old - The mirror acknowledges Maya’s will to live her true self, deciding to end its ‘bloodline’ with her as a vessel - its history is for another day.
As she matures into a young adult, Maya fluctuates between being stoic and being sassy, her Jamboree persona finally merging with her.  By the time she enters college (she was sent to Walter Uni, on scholarship from a certain Ferri Blue), she has somewhat learned to balance her emotions out while regaining the zaniness of her childhood self. Her college mates would have a hard time believing she was so quiet back in high school.
24 Years Old - Maya is a junior high school counsellor at Walter High in Walterland, a long train ride away from home.
She finally discovers the link between the mirror within her and the magical energy abound in Walter High. She acts as both support and monster beacon for the students and the current generation of Soldiers of Walter High.
At the climax of their final battle, the Soldiers give up their lives to release magic outside of Walterland, for all to benefit from. A year later, Maya uses her own abilities to bring them back. But at a cost - she can no longer turn into Jamboree.
42 Years Old - Maya has a child Alyssa (either by natural birth with Blue or via surrogacy with Blue and @rpstandsforroyalpigeon‘s character Wallace).
Despite being a normal human now, Maya still refers to herself as Jamboree sometimes, seeing that even without her powers, she is still her goblin self through and through. And it shows. She has fully embraced who she is.
Maya still works as a high school counsellor, but she has a night job as a stand-up comedian/insult comic at one of Walterland’s comedy clubs, The Barbecue Grill.
Meanwhile, Alyssa has shown signs that they are not a normal human child themselves...
