Our dear community partner from @projectreocollective & MIPH board member @littleselin 🙌🏽 —— #repost @risesandiego Meet 2019 RISE Fellow: SELINA LUGO ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @littleselin was born and raised in Sacramento, California. In 2004 she moved to San Diego, California where she attended San Diego City College and later transferred to @ucsandiego where she majored in Sociology. From a young age Selina was surrounded by art. Under the guidance of her father, who is also an accomplished artist, Selina has explored various mediums of art such as acrylic, watercolor, ceramics, and photography. She has exhibited in various galleries and venues throughout San Diego and Sacramento. Art has always played a major part of Selina’s life. In 2011 Selina co-founded Mercado Golondrina, a traveling market that promoted local artists and created pop-up markets throughout Southern California where they could sell their work. By 2016 Mercado Golondrina became a permanent resident of Barrio Logan and opened up shop with 6 of its original artists, including Selina. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She also co-founded ProjectREO, a community-organizing movement in Paradise Hills. Along with 3 other families, Selina and her husband Enrique Lugo made it a mission to beautify and revitalize their community through community clean-ups, movie nights, and family friendly events like Trunk or Treat and Holiday in the Hills. With the work done by ProjectREO there was a realization that there was a need in the community for a safe space where the public could come together and socialize. Thus, Selina and her husband, along with 4 other families, invested in their community to open up a coffee shop on Reo Drive called @pr_92139.
