i feel seen
It’s 8 am. I’m sitting in front of my laptop drinking my fourth cup of coffee. The screen is too bright. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a real human being or experienced genuine joy. My hand shakes as I click on the Zoom link. Just another day of online education.

dark academia aesthetic is pleasing to look at. and the city in the night pictures are soothing to the eye. romanticization of small things in life brings a spark of serotonin into our brains. but there are no small things in the city.
there are no small cafes in this damn city. no small restaurants, no clothing shop run by an individual designer, no parisian bookshop that smells oddly like cinnamon and definitely no small flower shop run by a lesbian college student and her father.
everything is corporatized. there are 3 starbuckses in the general vicinity, gigantic chain buffets that monopolize the industry, a book retailer the size of a football field (why am i using america’s favorite measurement method?) and a flower market in the 5 floor express bus stop. how can i romanticize life when every dollar (again, i’m not american) i spend is going to the organization i hate.
this is the hypocrisy of tumblr academia. every ~aesthetic~ picture you see on this website spurrs from the system we claim to denounce. we’re materialistic while pretending to care about the environment and the underprivileged. almost everything about academia is a sham.
