This unit has been my first time delving into the world of animation and I feel like my eyes have been opened to more entries of expression and I wish I had begun practicing sooner.
Even though I am quite happy with the length of my narrative, I should have probably abided by our given criteria and attempted to create a story which can conclude itself within the 20-30 second limit, although I satisfied the brief by animating as much as was required, the final outcome remains unfinished due to the long narrative having to be substituted by the animatic.
Some sequences like the boy walking into the classroom part could have gotten a few more in-between frames for fluidity but nevertheless you can still notice the movement.
One of the most crucial things I have learned throughout the unit is the importance of timing. What I've noticed really sells a certain movement is knowing how to manipulate its speed and impact.
I am eager to keep working on it and refining it because I have managed to create a really engaging story and visuals which I would like to see reach their conclusions.
I have kept the same sound effects from the original animatic however for the sake of this submission I have omitted a section to cut down on time as it became a little too long.
20 seconds of this is the finished animation work and the rest of the narrative is substituted by the original animatic.
Some liquid animation of the light spewing out of the dream. I could have given it more than 2 frames of boiling because it became rather repetative, unlike the zipper which has at least 4 or 5 frames of boiling.
This shot transitions from the last which is why her eyes are still in the shape of hearts.
Since I wanted to animate her tucking herself in bed, I omitted the blanket specifically from the background beforehand. I also could have decreased the speed at which she covers herself up because it is barely noticeable.
His walk cycle consists of only 6 frames and each of them are 4 frames apart. Which may be a little on the low side because of how short the animation lasts. Some in-betweens would help smooth out the choppiness.
Gave this establishing shot of the school very minimal animation as it only last for about a second and instead of zooming in like in the animatic, I decided to keep it stationary so that the subtle flow of the falling leaves on the left side and right side can remain seen.
Our first step was to establish a workflow best suited for each other’s animations.
I had a look at my animatic and tried to identify which key backgrounds would be the most important to illustrate beforehand in preparation for animating. I managed to make it up to the tree-climbing scene in the jungle dream, and there were definitely a few more left to do which were out of the scope of the 20 second project so I’m going to do them on my own time in the future.
Since my narrative takes place during the autumn season, I’ve given every background a unifying brown tone as a filter, even the ones during the dream.
Any object that would be animated has been omitted from these drawings and would be done on Krita.
