While Lily had considered for a moment to keep quiet about Remus’ arrival, simply to see the look of horror on her sister’s face at not only one wizard in the house but two, Lily knew better than to put her friend through that. So thankfully, with the knowledge that another wielder of magic was arriving, Tuney had decided to spend the day out. That left Remus with no chance of being insulted simply for being a wizard – which made Lily considerably less anxious about his arrival.
When the clock struck three, which happened to be the time they had agreed on, Lily made her way downstairs. There were the makings of a rather pleasant grin on her features and it was enough to earn a remark from her mother. “Are you sure this boy is just a friend, sweetheart? You don’t usually smile like that for just friends.” The words wiped the smile straight from her face, replacing it with an annoyed expression as the redhead rolled her eyes and quickly corrected the woman. While Remus was definitely the type of boy who would make an amazing husband one day, he wasn’t anything more than a fierce friend for Lily.
At the sound of knocking, Lily let out a sigh of relief and quickly left the sitting room where her mother stood tidying up. She reached the door moments later and pulled it open to find Remus standing there with a plant, causing quite a bit of confusion for the witch. “Are we getting a head start on out Herbology NEWTS?” she inquired, eyebrows raised and eyes focused on the plant. “Because I’m fairly sure that isn’t going to help us.”

A ripple of relief ran through him at the sight of Lily, not Petunia, immediately followed by a smile of sheepish embarrassment. Remus rubbed the back of his neck, glancing at the plant in his hand. “Oh, Merlin, no.” The prospect of already starting on summer homework in July was somewhat appalling, especially since they’d only just attained their freedom less than a month before. Despite being a responsible student ( most of the time ), Remus never really got around to his coursework until August.
“No, it’s a, er, a hostess gift for your mum,” he explained awkwardly, thinking that this whole idea was rather weird in the first place – I mean, bringing plants over for your friend’s mother? What on earth? His mother, however, had insisted, so of course Remus had conceded and brought along the little terra cotta pot anyway. “My mum just thrust it into my hands before I Flooed over and, well, I’d feel bad leaving it in some random place, so I just thought I’d bring it over anyway. It’s a basil plant.”
So far, their plan of getting Remus to the Evans residence to spend the afternoon was going smoothly ( except for that minor hitch at the apothecary ) but he wouldn’t call it a victory until he could be absolutely sure that a certain someone was there or not. Remus glanced over Lily’s shoulder into the corridor ( an easy feat, considering he was a good bit taller than her ), wondering if he’d catch a glimpse of Petunia. “Did your sister go out?”

Remus fought through the current of students sleepily trudging down the stairs towards the Great Hall in search of breakfast. In retrospect, he should’ve woken up earlier to beat the morning rush, but he hadn’t been able to sleep. James was snoring loudly, and since he was about as wakeful as a hibernating bear, no amount of Remus poking him in the face solved the problem. He’d put a Silencio charm on him after about ten minutes of failed attempts but hadn’t quite gotten back to sleep. Now that he thought about it...did he ever cast the countercharm this morning?
A frown twisted his lips; he couldn’t quite remember, but at any rate, it didn’t really matter. Sirius or Peter could free James’s tongue whenever they wanted – Remus had an errand to run. He finally freed himself from the throng of students, heading down the hallway with a plate of food in one hand and a glass of orange juice in the other. Days of being stuck with the infirmary food grew monotonous ( and he knew from experience ) so Remus had decided to bring some breakfast up to Marlene in order to cheer her up.
That is, until he rounded the corner and found Marlene herself in the middle of a hallway.
“What on earth do you think you’re doing?” Remus asked, a half-incredulous half-unimpressed expression on his face. “Don’t tell me you’re trying for a jailbreak.”

It took me this long to realize that the reason Edmund wants Turkish Delight so badly is because sweets were rationed during the war and I’m not gonna lie, if i hadn’t had chocolate in 6 months and someone said they could get it to me I’d just be like who do you need dead

Peter pulled up the sleeves of his jumper as he watched Remus pulled the record off the turntable. He took the vinyl and placed it gingerly onto the carpet beside them as Remus continued to fiddle with the broken machine. “Can you pull out the needle? Is it some kind’a special one? Maybe we could get like’a sewing needle?”
To Peter it just looked like a clunky box that somehow spit out sounds. It reminded him of a radio actually, little box with a voice trapped inside. It took quite a bit of convincing that it wasn’t just enchanted. Radio signals? Muggles were wild. “Or maybe just…A good Reparo? Try that yet?” The boy looked about the floor to find where he’d left his wand, leaning over to snatch it up before sitting up again.
“Or-Oh! Does it have those uh-uh. What do you…Batteries? Those in it? They die don’t they? Maybe some kinda like. Mini lightnin’ spell to keep the power going in it? Just like’a….” He waved his wand about idly as he tried to think of a spell, pointing it at the turntable eventually. Nothing happened for a moment, before it began to float just a bit off the ground, “Oh, wrong one-wrong one.” Peter picked up the turntable from the air to set it down again in his lap.

“You know, I’m not really sure that’s how it works,” he admitted, carefully looking over the contraption. “It’s got to be the specific kind...something about the grooves in the record and vibrations.” Now he wished he hadn’t left the instruction manual at home–in his haste packing this year, Remus hadn’t remembered to pack the small booklet and now was reaping the unfortunate consequences.
Remus had already bewitched the record player the first week of Hogwarts, and it’d worked for a good while until Sirius had tripped and fallen on it, leaving it broken. “I tried Reparo last night, and it fixed up whatever was jiggling inside whenever I shook it. Although, it’s a complex machine, so I doubt it repaired whatever’s stopping it from playing...” Fixing it outwardly was easy enough, but now came the real challenge of figuring out whatever had went wrong with the insides.
“Oh, I smuggled in some spare batteries, actually. Let me go grab them.” He pushed himself up, managing to only trip over his feet once as he stood up. ( Damn his long legs. ) A minute or two later, Remus jogged down the steps from the boys dormitories with a few clunky batteries in hand. “Reckon that changing them will make it work again? Or maybe a Sonorus charm would work...although I’ve only read about them in theory. I’ve got no idea whether that’s going to backfire or not.”
