She’d unwound a little, a few beers in and a light buzz running through her veins, Maggie swayed a little to the music as she listened to the performance on stage. She loved music, all kinds of music, and so the Monster Jam had become her favorite event over the years. She had been so wrapped up in the music she hadn’t noticed someone near her, “Having fun?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“An unbridled amount. So much so that I’ll never have a reason to complain in my eternal life again.” Lukas approached his eldest sister with an easy grin, choosing the lace his words with sarcasm instead of giving her a straight response. “I can see you’re feeling the exact same way. We should take selfies, savor the moment the way a true millennial would.”

Runa had given up on truly enjoying Monster Jam and had instead decided that she was better off standing towards the edges, keeping an eye on everything. There were more people around than usual, supernatural beings from around the world here to enjoy the festivities. And, quite frankly, she wouldn’t put it past certain members of the clave to try to sneak their way in. The last thing she wanted to do during such a joyous occasion was fight. Actually, that was exactly what she wanted to do. It had been way too long since she last had a fight outside of Purgatory and she was itching for some excitement. But the woman pushed that off, bringing her bottle of tequila to her lips and taking a sip. “I think Abba may be the best band here. But I have my biases.” she spoke to the nearest person.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Abba? All the musical artists that are here and you pick Abba. Please tell me that isn’t because of that movie with their songs and the three men that might have fathered that one child.” He gave a gentle scoff that wasn’t a true judgmental sound from the original vampire. Had he not been staying put in Hollow Grove for far too long the man might have taken a bit more enjoyment out of the sheer number of people that had come to town for the festival. Now, it was just another thing for him to complain about. “Dare I ask what your second pick would be?”

Elena didn’t usually ride anything (well not anything at a carnival anyways), but sometimes, especially at events like this, it was nice to find somewhere to just relax and be alone for a moment. She was over a thousand years old after all, the elderly needed breaks too. She decided to take a casual ride on the ferris wheel, thinking the slow-motion and rising up to overlook the monster jam would be a good way to rewind. She intended to go alone, so when she sat in one of the pods, she was very surprised when someone snuck their way on too. “Um, the fuck? Excuse you!?” she said, but by that time the ferris wheel began to move and she was stuck with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was no true rhyme or reason why Lukas had taken it upon himself to slide into the open seat next to the youngest Greyson. Once he’d spotted the familiar head of hair he’d decided to take it upon himself to get under her skin. They weren’t able to kill each other and starting a fight was frowned upon by their older siblings. Pestering a Greyson was the best he could do. “So tell me, what’s the appeal of going up incredibly slowly, stopping in a half decent spot if your lucky, and then coming back down to the ground again? There’s not even the thrill of knowing if something goes wrong there could potentially be danger for us.”

“I used a junkie as a puppet just for fun in the sixties.” Mako grinned and shrugged. “That’s something you didn’t already know. Or did you? Hell.” He shrugged it off, negligently dismissing something he wasn’t too terribly proud of. “Something exciting.. nope, don’t have a damn thing. I’ve spend, what, ten-odd years on the boat, haven’t run into Ariel yet. I’d let you know if I had."
Tumblr media
“That I didn’t know. You’ll have the tell me the story. I’m sure it was wildly hilarious.” Using anyone as a puppet was something Lukas would find funny, the vampire had a dark and twisted sense of humor. “Ten years on a boat is better than more than a year in this town. But I’ve been discouraged from going after the Clave by my overbearing older siblings. A wonderful thing.” Sarcasm practically dripped from his words.

“You are very much like your brother,” Ryder commented, thinking back to a day when Noah had been in his bar and said something very similar. “You Blackwells need to lighten up.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I suppose it’s a side-effect of spending more than a millennium around each other. But I’m far more fun than any of my siblings.” He was quick to counter, swirling the drink in his hand again. “I’ll be sure to laugh incredibly hard next time you make a humorous comment. Will that count as lightening up?”

“Cool is where you’re at, man.” Pleased as hell to see his maker, Mako hopped to the dock and sped forward to give Lukas a bear hug, an extra squeeze and wiggle with it. “Shit, it’s been too long. How the hell are you?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Tell me something I don’t already know.” His response was immediately conceited, returning the hug without the extra layer of enthusiasm that included a squeeze and the wiggle. Instead he gave a firm pat on the shoulder which was his way of expressing he was glad to see Mako. “As good as I can be. I haven’t been driven insane by boredom yet and that’s an accomplishment. You? Have any exciting stories?”

“Okay… we can call it that… though can we shorten it a little bit?  That’s a very long description,” he said, leaning forward on his arms towards the other.  “You can congratulate them all, but now that I know about it tell me more.  They take bets right?  It’s been a while since I had the chance to do a bit of gambling.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“A grey area.” He shortened the long way he’d described the fight club at Purgatory. To keep it going for the last thirty-plus years he had his security make sure none of the fights ever went too far. No one dies, the police don’t have to get involved. “Of course. What fun would it be without betting? Watching two people fight each other is only entertaining for so long if you can’t make something out of it.”

“So..” Mako snapped his fingers and popped a palm on the curve between forefinger and thumb. His legs swung off the bow of The Poison Princess and he gave what he saw a long gander. His breath puffed out and he continued to snap, pop, snap and pop as restlessness settled into curiosity. “So this is Hollow Grove.” A broad grin appeared. “Cool.”
Tumblr media
“Cool isn’t the word I’d choose to use myself. I’ll ask you again in a week if you’re feeling the say way.” He looked back at the town with a grimace, the expression shifting to a smirk. “But of course, I’m here and that makes the town significantly more interesting. Getting a tour of the place from me is the only explanation of the place that’s worth it.”

There were times when Ryder would sit in his own bar The Saloon, watching people walk in and converse, like a hawk watching its prey. He was new to town and had the luxury of still being an unknown to many of the people here. He recognized a few faces, some of the people he had dealings with in the past, and those who knew him, some disgruntled looking regulars who came often to his bar, would walk by with a nod to him in respect, though none dared to disturb him at the table.
So when he saw someone across from him as he sat at his table order something from the bar, he spoke out. “You know that stuff can kill ya,” he said, sipping on his own glass of whiskey.
Tumblr media
Despite the fact that he owned Purgatory, Lukas had no problems dropping into other bars around town. There was one, however, he spent little to no time but that wasn’t The Saloon. His avoidance of Hair of the Dog was driven because of his aversion to werewolves. He eyed the top shelf, picking a bottle of scotch. The glass was nearly to his lips when Ryder spoke up, a grin pulling at the corners of his mouth.
“I’d be impressed if it manages. A drink accomplishing what many have tried failed to do over the years. I don’t even know if I could be upset.” He swirled the liquid in the glass, then took a long drink, pausing afterward and waiting for the impact that didn’t come. “Nope, hasn’t killed me yet.”

“So what you’re telling me,” Patrik started, his voice raised to be heard above the music of Purgatory with his tenth drink in his hand.  “Is that downstairs in the basement is an illegal fighting ring?  How come I haven’t been in here before?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Illegal is such a harsh way of phrasing it. I prefer describing it as an experience that exists in the delicate balance between frowned upon and encouraged.” Meaning illegal. Breaking many of the rules that the Founders Council had set, the very council he was a non-voting member of. “Not hearing about it sooner means people are doing what they’ve been told.”

She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t on edge, looking out for things that could go wrong. But, she hadn’t realised that someone had been talking, she’d been so zoned out watching for threats. Resolving to focus just as much on the event, she turned her attention back to her companion. “Sorry, zoned out for a sec what were you saying?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The exact details of what I said aren’t of particular importance. Simply nodding your head, agreeing to what I said with a smile and an affirmative statement is enough.” Lukas teased instead of repeating what he’d said earlier. It wasn’t anything important or he would’ve, but he’d approached with nothing more than an off-hand comment about the number of people. “You won’t regret it. The wonderful idea will be a surprise.”

Maya kept staring at the two morons fighting at the bar, shaking her head as she took a couple sips of her margarita, finding it interesting until it was over. “I would say two months, tops,” she said. “But if you want to ban them for a month, go right ahead-and then make them pay 20 bucks to get back in if they come around once the ban is over.” In all honesty, she didn’t have the patience for the fighting shit anyway, finding it annoying as hell, but it did interest her enough to watch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If one of his bouncers had been around the original vampire barely wouldve batted an eye at the disturbance, but the two had been unlucky that he’d been forced to get involved. “You’re right, a month is hardly enough. Three months, a fine for causing a disturbance and a cover charge of 30 dollars any time they try to step foot inside for the rest of the time they live in Hollow Grove. Or at least until I decide they’ve done enough to earn their way back in without the charge.”

“Touche.” Teo simply agreed. A lot of the stores in this town profited from old supernaturals with too much money they really needed. Not that he blamed them- he, himself, charged ridiculous rates for his services. “You know, I might just pick randomly. It might be ten times easier than having a headache over something like this.” he agreed, looking over the suits he had tried out, and simply picking out the first three ones that caught his attention.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“If you pick randomly and you’re not upset with the outcome then you’ve saved yourself the time and effort of deciding.” Lukas reasoned. In this case, it didn’t sound like picking randomly would backfire on Teo. He looked over the first three that the man had picked. “And the decision has been made. Does it feel like a weight off your chest to know that you don’t have to waste any more time looking through suits?”

Ezra’s eyebrows lifted as he watched the fight get more and more intense. He was wondering if he should use his magic to break it up when Lurch as a vampire did it instead. “Uh,” he said, looking toward the door where the two men had been thrown out. “They both seemed pretty peeved, I’d say a month would probably be the safer bet.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lukas stayed with his eyes glued on the door, watching to make sure that neither of the men made an attempt to slink back into the bar. “Maybe I’ll make it two months for good measure.” A time and place for fighting existed, the dance floor of Purgatory was neither. “I bet they’ll be proud of out of their mind in the evenings after one maybe two weekends.’

An argument between two heavily intoxicated men had been getting steadily louder until it reached a volume that made it impossible for Lukas to turn a blind eye. Scoping the area he saw no sign of a bouncer, leaving Lukas assuming they’d gone to the lower levels of Purgatory to deal with watching over the more illicit activities. In the short span of time when his attention was divided the argument transformed into a full-blown fight between the two, leaving the original gritting his teeth. Within a minute it was over, Lukas moving to separate the two and throw them both out the nearest door with a look that dared them to try and come back. “What do you think? A week-long ban or a month-long ban for the two of them?” He spoke up, turning to the nearest person. “Or more? I’m always happy to go with a more extreme option.”

“So be it. It’s thirty eight and twenty three months.” Maggie played along, continuing to tease her brother. It was one of those simple things, something so casual, and just something she had needed after the past few months. “Mostly is still better than none at all. It almost deserved a celebration, you know.” She was well aware of what was happening in Purgatory. Well aware of the many laws it broke. And she was just as well aware that it was exactly what this town needed at times. “Don’t tell me you came here to boast about that.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Almost? What do I have to do to get a celebration then? Follow all of the rules? You’re asking too much.” From the beginning, Lukas had shown he wasn’t willing to follow all of the rules set by the town council through the creation of Purgatory. Still, there were certain rules he didn’t break out of respect for his older siblings and their dedication to the town. “I most certainly have.” He joked, choosing to act as if that were his reason for coming to see her. “I thought you’d be proud, possibly even plan a parade or two. We can start with just a small party.”
