Peter McKinnon is pretty well known in the photography scene. He is known for his photography videos, but even then some of the tutorials he makes can be applied in video editing. He has made videos before on video editing, but even some of his tutorials on photoshop is useful. Not only does knowing how to use photoshop diversify your skill set, some of the tools in photoshop are in After Effects and Premier.

Corridor Crew is another channel that I stumbled onto when I got into editing. Corridor Crew is more of a behind the scenes-vlogging channel that follows a famous studio that focuses on online content. A lot of the videos on their main channel is VFX heavy. The reason why I recommend their second channel is that its focus on behind the scenes gives insight in working with a team and their reaction videos shows a perspective on how VFX artists view effects. I personally used a couple of the techniques they noticed in their reaction videos. If you have an interest in visual effects I highly recommend checking out their channel.

Cinecom is another source for aspiring editors! Even though most of their tutorials are focused on VFX I find it useful learning a little bit of VFX when working in video editing. It will certainly help in the beginning of the your career when you need to do some quick VFXs on Premier without any advanced plugins or knowledge in 3D modeling (I will be showcasing another channel for that). The videos themselves are also very informative and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to learn video editing. It is definitely beginner friendly.

My Story
ThisGuyEdit’s videos is what helped me analyze editing in movies and in my own work. I was always interested in working with video, but could not narrow down what I wanted to do. I grew to like video editing with the small projects I’ve done in high school. I became interested in video editing when I stared my third job in my University. This job involved me making videos for teachers and even though I am not passionate in the content I became obsessed in having a unique and creative take on the material. That is when I started watching videos on editing and started watch ThisGuyEdits. The way Sven analyzes edits in film is very fascinating.

The editing in “His House” *Spoilers*
Many people celebrate Halloween by watching a horror movie and I decided to watch His House this year. This movie is interesting in its use of cuts and increasing ambiguity. The twist at the end of the movie is Nyagak not being Bol and Rial’s daughter and it was Bol who separated her from her mother. There are hints throughout the movie, but is hidden with Julia Bloch’s use of cuts to still keep it ambiguous. If there are some critiques I can have in terms of editing is that the timeline seemed unclear in the latter half of the movie.
