HBO War Themed Prompts
Because I haven't seen one yet (though admittedly I didn't look very hard) and I figured I could get a lot of mileage out of it. Some work better for BoB/TP/GenKill than the rest, but I tried to keep them vague enough that they can apply to all with minor tweaking.
On an unrelated note, it's incredible how much military jargon has evolved since WWII.
"Medic!"
"Out of morphine? Again? Are we ever not out of morphine?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm — oh holy fuck."
"It's okay, just... Don't move."
"At least I'll get a Purple Heart out of this."
"Never mind me, what happened to your hand?"
"That was close."
"Welcome back! How were the nurses?"
"Just some shrapnel. You'll be up and running in no time."
"You're only fucked if Doc tells you you'll be all right."
"Yeah, hospital's nice, but being here with you all — actually, it sucks, I shoulda stayed until the doctor kicked me out."
"Your bone was shattered; it can't be healed already. Get back to the hospital."
"Doc'll know to strap me down next time."
"I'm fine. See, I can hold my gun."
"Do I look bulletproof to you?"
"Well, this piece of crap is still better than no helmet."
"I don't need depth perception to punch you in the nose."
"Two packs of Lucky Strikes? Damn, I'm rich."
"Pass the Hershey's."
"I can't stomach it anymore."
"Got a smoke? Or just fire?"
"Last cig, sorry."
"That can't be edible."
"Ressource management, guys, does that ring any bells?"
"Supplies are three weeks late. Is the General aware we aren't machines?"
"Anger is a renewable ressource."
"Anyone want a souvenir gun? I'll trade it for rations."
"I trust you with my life, not my meal."
"If I survive the war I will never be dry again. What's the point? God obviously wants me to live through as much fucking bullshit as possible."
"I had sleep for lunch and coffee for sleep."
"I don't know what I'm running on but it ain't what nature intended."
"Morale is... Well. If you can find any, notify me."
"Of course I'm good. I've got both legs, both arms, all my head — my friend just blew up but hey, beggars choosers, huh?"
"Pretty sure your yapping goes against the Geneva Convention."
"Put the gun down."
"This gun is mine by right."
"I killed him, I get to loot him first."
"Whoever this belonged to won't be getting much use from it, now will they?"
"I'm treating y'all to a good pint and a warm meal when we get off the line."
"I'm billeted above a bar."
"Don't get comfortable. Command wants us in the next village by 1100 hours tomorrow."
"You can't call dibs on an entire house."
"I hate when the place's already been ransacked. We gotta loot some shit too, damn."
"Dude, we've seized, like, three whole tactical assets since we got here."
"We'd be there by now, if someone hadn't misread the map."
"Why does the General never want us exactly where we are?"
"Get diggin'."
"We're pretty snug here, wouldn't you say?"
"Sorry, I don't speak the language."
"Watch them, I'll get the interpreter."
"What do you think they were saying?"
"This one speaks English."
"Leave the civilians alone."
"This piece of shit barely qualifies as a human being."
"Just because you hate them doesn't mean they stop having rights."
"Oh, soap, I will never take you for granted again."
"Bed, shower, warm food that looks like food... God, when did my standards drop so low?"
"Well, someone got his Dear John."
"Good luck getting him his mail, he died last week."
"C'mon, read it, read it."
"Don't play on the god damn tanks."
"The Air Force! Fuckin' finally."
"You can aim wherever you want as long as it isn't at me."
"At this rate the Lieutenant's gonna kill us before the enemy gets to."
"Keep this shit up and I'll shoot you myself."
"Is it true? The rumours, you know, about the war crimes."
"What does all that even mean? I don't know. I'm just here to shoot bad guys."
"So. Medal of Honour, yes or no?"
"Permission to speak honestly, sir?"
"I heard they bayonetted a POW."
"He shot how many?"
"Thank God he's on our side."
"Sit-rep is go fuck yourself."
"Cease fire! That's our boys!"
"One day. That's all I'm asking for. One day without any of this bullshit."
"I've never been so glad to be bored."
"Are those muzzle flashes, city lights, or my brain going bonkers from sleep deprivation?"
"No comms? NO COMMS? We're fucked."
"What's the point of having a technician if the radio's always the first thing to get smashed anyway?"
"At this point there're more prayers holding this thing together than screws."
"Can I get on the truck with no singing?"
"I thought I signed up for the army, not the latest Broadway production."
"Have we run out of songs yet?"
"Still haven't fired a round. Feels nice."
"Ooh, can I man the machine-gun?"
"Who do I have to kill for a good night's rest?"
"Yell some more, the artillery isn't loud enough."
"I got a solid twenty minutes of sleep, then some dumbass got spooked by an owl and started shooting like a maniac."
"I miss home."
"They just don't stop screaming."

Warsaw Uprising ’44 was a major World War II operation, in the summer of 1944, by the Polish underground resistance, led by the Home Army (Polish: Armia Krajowa), to liberate Warsaw from German occupation.
The uprising was timed to coincide with the retreat of the German forces from Poland ahead of the Soviet advance. While approaching the eastern suburbs of the city, the Red Army temporarily halted combat operations, enabling the Germans to regroup and defeat the Polish resistance and to raze the city in reprisal.
Although the exact number of casualties remains unknown, it is estimated that about 16,000 members of the Polish resistance were killed and about 6,000 badly wounded. In addition, between 150,000 and 200,000 Polish civilians died, mostly from mass executions. Jews being harboured by Poles were exposed by German house-to-house clearances and mass evictions of entire neighbourhoods.
During the urban combat approximately 25% of Warsaw’s buildings were destroyed. Following the surrender of Polish forces, German troops systematically levelled another 35% of the city block by block. Together with earlier damage suffered in the 1939 invasion of Poland and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943, over 85% of the city was destroyed by January 1945, when the course of the events in the Eastern Front forced the Germans to abandon the city.
