In Christianity, the messianic endowment with the Spirit which abolishes the religious dominance of man or woman is symbolized by the baptism of men and women, which takes the place of Israel's purely male circumcision. Baptism is the symbol of the eschatological endowment with the Spirit and the sign that believers are sealed for the messianic kingdom; and this creates the fundamental principle that men and women have equal rights. This is finally shown by the new eschatological law of inheritance. Every believer, man and woman, acquires in messianic fellowship with Christ the same eschatological right to inherit the kingdom. They become heirs of eternal life and fellow heirs with Christ (Rom. 8.17; Gal. 3.29; Eph. 1.14; 2.8; Heb. 6.17). The eschatological law of inheritance replaces matrilinear and patrilinear succession and transference of power. But this means that right through the history of religion, with its shifting struggles between patriarchate and matriarchate, a scarlet thread of messianism can be discerned, which puts an end to patriarchy.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
