A Rustic, Informal Winter Wedding at Dewsall Court

Today I’m delighted to share the incredible pictures from Hannah and Gordon’s winter wedding at Dewsall Court. The ceremony and reception both took place in the Wainhouse, the venue’s stunning barn space. It was the perfect backdrop for the couple’s rustic wedding styling, and looked simply breathtaking when lit by candlelight for the evening celebrations.

Hannah and Gordon wanted an informal wedding day. They used lots of foliage to create simple yet beautiful styling, and an abundance of candles and lanterns created the ‘winter sparkle’ they wanted. Unstructured, natural floral arrangements added to the rustic vibe, with cream and ivory flowers complementing winter foliage perfectly for the bouquets, table arrangements and stunning ceremony arch.

Talking of stunning, what about Hannah’s wedding dress! She looked incredible in her long sleeved Margaux Tardits dress with embroidered detail. The bridesmaids’ metallic maxi dresses added even more sparkle to the day, whilst Gordon and his groomsmen braved the cold in tweed kilts and jackets.

Breaking tradition, Hannah and Gordon decided against having a first dance, instead doing a variation of the Virginia Reel (Ceilidh dance) and inviting their guests to join them. They also had 100 vegan cupcakes instead of a wedding cake, to celebrate their friend’s 30th birthday which was on the same day.

This wedding really shows that you don’t have to follow any rules when it comes to planning your big day. I hope you enjoy looking through these beautiful pictures, captured by Dean Jones Photography.

Opulent Wedding Styling with Autumnal Colours

My first glimpse of this fabulous styled wedding shoot was a picture of the bouquet on the Hibiscus and Hodge Facebook page. From the first time I saw this breathtaking oversized bouquet in warm autumnal colours I fell in love with this styling concept. Then I found out the shoot took place in my home town of Devizes at the beautiful Town Hall and I loved it even more!

Coordinated by Lucinda from Devizes Venues and talented local make-up artist Karina Scoffield, these ideas have been beautifully captured by Rose & Fay Photography. Although the styling uses rich autumnal colours it would work for a wedding in any season as a mix of bright colours pop through the rich tones to give real depth and interest.

With beautiful wedding dresses and wonderfully opulent styling ideas, this shoot is one of my favourite styled shoots we’ve featured recently. I hope you love these ideas as much as I do.

Warm, Rich Autumnal Colours

“This styled shoot took place in the Assembly Room of the historic Devizes Town Hall, a beautiful Georgian listed building. We wanted to reflect the regency grandeur of the room, with its Adams style ceiling, magnificent chandeliers and infinity mirrors.

“Full of warm, rich colours, this inspiration has an almost Avant Garde feel to it. The styling team used beautiful, rich and warm autumnal colours, giving the look a very indulgent and opulent wow factor.

“The venue’s historic architecture inspired the autumnal hues and gorgeous floral arrangements. The seasonal and naturally elegant floral design included a touch of whimsical romance to tie in with the graceful dresses and dramatic silhouettes of the millinery. Using bronzed bracken pampas grass and poppy seed heads, all sourced from the local countryside, inspired a feeling of merging the outdoors with the indoors, and a mix of dried and fresh florals added texture.

“Tones of deep pink, vibrant orange, cerise, burgundy and bronze contrasted the serene blue colour of the Town Hall. The flowers included a mix of cappuccino and black baccarat roses, delicate pink and yellow orchids, burgundy ranunculus and chrysanthemums, all mixed with shades of mango, with astrantia and wax flower chosen to add texture.”

Elegance and Grace

“We used the stunning harp, the epitome of elegance and grace, as one of the focal ideas. Classical but devastatingly beautiful, its colours blended with the rich colours and tied in with the overall look. It also provided a wonderful treat for the team.

“Dresses supplied by the luxury bridal boutique Willoughby and Wolf, provided a timeless elegance. Moving away from your typical wedding gown look, they were all hand-picked for their distinctive designs. Exquisite detailing gave a royal, timeless look, yet with an experimental and unorthodox approach to the typical bride.

“The use of bridal hats to complete some of the looks gave an extra level of elegance. They made the looks spring out into the most spectacular finish, giving the overall bridal styling an ultra-chic alternative to the veil.

“What an amazing day to showcase Devizes Venues and our amazing local wedding suppliers.”

One thing I particularly like about the Alan Hannah Moonshadow 2020 collection is the inclusion of bow detail on some of the designs, from traditional bows on the back of dresses to shoulder bow detail. Here are three of my favourite styles which include bows…

This stunning satin wedding dress with sweetheart corset bodice features a large bow on the back of the dress.

Jess

The large side bow detail on the Jess wedding dress looks amazing and accentuates the waistline.

Olivia

With its straight sheath skirt and peplum bodice, the tie bow shoulder detail makes a lovely addition to this traditional silhouette.

Bridal Shower Styling Using 2019 Wedding Trends

This bridal shower is one of the prettiest I’ve seen, and is the perfect inspiration to swoon over during the Easter break. The styling team, led by Jade at Let’s Bee Together, used a combination of the hottest 2019 wedding trends which work so well together.

Pantone’s colour for 2019, Living Coral, features heavily throughout the styling, including the stationery, napkins, cake and even the drinks. The white linen on the simply styled table makes the coral napkins and on-trend low level floral arrangement of foliage, pampas grass and coral roses really stand out, and cute coral chiffon bows tied around the top of bar stools finish the look perfectly. Each place setting also has a cool personalised coaster which is a lovely keepsake for the girls to take away.

I just love the elegant stationery which features a wonderful hand drawn illustration of the venue, The Con Club, and the inclusion of pampas grass designs on the invite, wax seal and envelope liner gives a nod to the floral arrangements. Hand lettering is used throughout, including on the personalised gift bags for each of the girls. Filled with wonderful treats such as an ‘I Do Crew’ bracelet, marble iced biscuit, drink, hairspray, “Prosecco whore” hankies, and so much more, there’s definitely no tat here!

Four extravagant tiers of cakey goodness, the bridal shower cake is a lovely idea. Decorated with a beautiful sugar flower hoop, rose gold leaf, soft coral colours and tied with a pretty ribbon, it’s the final piece that pulls together all the different 2019 wedding trends used.
