Flann O鈥橞rien, The Third Policeman
I relate the telling of this story to be like taking acid. And this is what I think must be happening, all of the characters must be on drugs. Why else would a man fall in love with a bicycle? Naming your inner monologue Joe and watching the policeman around you become more like a bicycle the more time they spend with them, perhaps just signals a slow decent into madness. There are moments of clarity when you look deeper into the many metaphors. Relatable life pondering, where sense can be made through a clouded mind. An interesting read, but many reading breaks should be taken to aid comprehension.

Richard Brautigan, The Hawkline Monster
Brautigan is possibly the creator of almost perfect prose. He says what needs to be said and the sentence simplicity almost makes this book feel as though it could be written for children. The content however has a much darker storyline, with a somewhat light and humorous tone. Cameron and Greer are easily manipulated by the Hawkline sisters and their beauty and vow to save them from the Hawkline monster that has taken up residence below their house. An easy read, but ever so enjoyable. Perfect for a lazy afternoon when your brain needs a break from drama and would prefer to go on a strange gothic western adventure.

Asimov, Foundation
My second most memorable foray into sci-fi reading this far. This book has a complex storyline, so complex I鈥檓 probably going to have to read it again because I can鈥檛 be sure I鈥檝e followed it right the first time. And since there are two not books in the series, I think it would be wise. The timeline of the psychohistorians jumps thousands of years at a time. With characters being alive in one jump, and dead in the next, young when first introduced and old by the next jump. This creates a hollow of time where you can鈥檛 be sure exactly what has happened, but you can be sure that the desire to minimise the destruction of the universe from the greatest war it has ever seen is paramount. Even if it may be all be a farce created by Seldon, the most celebrated psychohistorian of them all.
