I'm wondering if the song "Alchemy" will tie into the moral of the book "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho.

Whole book is basically about higher calling, purpose, and following your dreams. Allegedly, everyone has a purpose/dream, but not everyone follows it. Even the metals used in alchemy have their own "path and destiny" and because they "follow" it, the wonders of alchemy are produced.

Obviously, main character is the one who followed his "path" and the whole book is about his story.

According to the author's logic, on the way to this dream/goal a person meets obstacles in the form of the opinion of others who say that the dream is unattainable, the test of love, fear of failure or on the contrary fear of dream fulfillment.

The meaning of the test of love is shown there in the following way: main character had a choice to go further towards his dream or to stay with his love interest. He thought it was a question of "choose one = lose the other". But I think even his love interest said that if they were meant to be together, they would be. So he left his love interest in order to countine following his path but eventually when he reached his "goal" they got back together with his love cause their bond and love remind unshakable even tho they went through separation. So in this aspect, the moral from the author is that "true love" is one that doesn't get in the way of true calling and mechete and despite everything doesn't crumble from following person's "path" and "dreams".

Now think about this possibility in context of "The Great War", "New year's day"...
