The 2 year anniversary of Martyr passed recently on October 11th and I was too lost in writing land with @antiqva to remember post about it. Looking back now, this album was truly something I obsessed over and put a fine toothed comb through every little detail. It was my first and I felt like I really needed to prove myself. I learned a lot and wouldn’t change a thing about it. My voice was changing at the time and I can’t be upset about the transition documented on this album. Martyr was also my first attempt at adding harp to heavy music and there is so much more I want to do with the harp, strings, choirs on the next album (whenever that may be). Martyr could not have come to be if it wasn’t for @rocky_gray believing in me, @monolithicproductions believing in us, and @spencercomposer believing in the music. So many incredible singers came along for the ride too in the duet/choir/chant/harmonies department and added their own touch to each piece. Martyr was my biggest teacher, a painful and triumphant journey, something I can look back on now with pride and fond memories. Something I fought very hard to make happen. I’m so very thrilled to announce that I am officially an @aisamusicmanagment artist under the management of @coriwestbrook !!! I have been weary of signing such deals in the past, but Aisa and Cori won me over with their “artist first” approach that prioritizes the artist and their needs first. Looking back a year to two years ago, my life is so different now. Whether the pandemic happened or not, I had to retreat and go through a hard transition and transformation to regain my mental and physical strength. And now I can honestly say I’ve never been happier, healthier, or more fulfilled. It didn’t come easy and sometimes it came with sacrifice. I wouldn’t change a thing though and I’m genuinely excited for the future. The whole experience taught me that it’s ok to put yourself first and through that you can really find purpose and passion again. I hope you find the courage and strength to do the same for yourself. I’m over a week late on this, but October 17th was World Harp Day and I was performing at @sinistercreaturecon at the time to celebrate. I never got a chance to pause, reflect, and put into words what this journey has meant to me. It’s been a long one and sometimes painful due to not having a harp on the road. My draw and determination for this new venture started with a fire inside that came out of no where and has never gone away. It was somewhere between @bjork ’s “Vespertine“ album and my occasional studies in traditional folk music in my early twenties that sparked my curiosity. From that one @dusty.strings model to now having three more, I’ve had the privilege to learn under @musiccityharp and a few other harpists on my travels who’ve crossed genres and are pushing boundaries. There has been opposition from some not seeing the harp fit for Rock and Metal.... But I believe anything is possible and I feel deep sense of duty as a harpist to keep the legacy of this 5000 year old instrument alive as genres emerge and change. It has been one whole year since “Martyr” was released. This album took the span of 3 years to come to fruition: from the first song demo all the way to the release date. This album could have not been possible without the talents and hard work of @monolithicproductions @rocky_gray Spencer Creaghan @xenoyr and @elle_dsc and the part time and free lance team at @cyberproxyrecords Somehow along the way Martyr got a @thejunoawards Nomination and has sold almost 1500 copies internationally! (which is a big deal as a small indie artist) Over half a million streams (and counting) have graced listeners ears on all digital streaming platforms across the world too. The success of this album was more than I could have ever asked for.
