I feel as though Sirius is villainized way too much for leaving Regulus in that house. Yes, he knew how terrible their parents were and yes, Regulus probably shouldn't have been left there but what was Sirius supposed to do? He was hurt physically and mentally and if he would have stayed there is no doubt in my mind he would have died. You're nothing but a liar if you try to tell me that Sirius didn't at least once beg his little brother to leave that wretched house, but what was he supposed to do when Regulus said no? Sirius hadn't anticipated no, and regardless of how hard he tried or how much he begged, he couldn't physically get his brother away from that terrible house. Of course it killed Sirius. But he couldn't just go back. He knew he couldn't. Even when he tried, James practically had to hold him down to stop his best friend from walking into the house that led him to show up bloodied and bruised on James' doorstep one summer evening. Nobody won, in this situation. Sirius was now a stranger to his family name, even if he'd left a piece of him to die in that house.

But damn the one who ever uttered the thought that it was Sirius Black's fault.

You can't blame a scared child for not superseding the impossible.
