I once said shiver me timbers unironically, 110% done with bullshit, I know this blog is disorganized but so is my life, to be fully clear this isn't San Jose rage
Pop Culture Conception of Captain Kirk from Star Trek: A rough and tumble rule-breaker who had a rebellious streak, was a compulsive womanizer who hit on every woman they ran into, and had many casual relationships. Was rebellious and often ignored orders to do what he thought was best. A high testosterone man of action, he was more likely to start a fight than other Trek captains. Had a bit of an egotistical or arrogant streak, and who reprogrammed the Kobyashi Maru because of ego-injury. Was approachable and often a peer to his crew. Often gave interminable sanctimonious speeches.
Actual Captain Kirk from Star Trek: Lived a mostly celibate life primarily dedicated to his responsibilities, sometimes shut down women who came on to him and avoided a few he worked with due to duty, was a workaholic, respected his superior officers and bureaucrats to the point it caused him problems, and only violated orders only in extreme circumstances due to his loyalty to friends. Believed in non-violent resolutions, and often had a thoughtful streak where he refused to attack or kill. Was intellectual and enjoyed playing chess and quoted literature. Had self confidence, pride, chutzpah and energy but was not egotistical, and reprogrammed the Kobyashi Maru out of pride, not ego injury or arrogance. Was often authoritarian with his crew, sometimes snapped at them, and except for McCoy and Spock, was often remote and aloof from them. Often gave interminable sanctimonious speeches (that part is actually true).
i hate when scientists are like ‘this planet cant have aliens on it because there’s no water! the atmosphere is wrong! theres not enough heat to sustain life!’ because dude theyre aliens, nobodys saying they need any of those things to exist
Sometimes I think about the bi folks out there who never let their minds even tread into realizing that they are bi because of how strong compulsory heterosexuality and homophobia are.
horrifying fun fact of the day: so greenwich village, which is the neighborhood in nyc where the stonewall riots took place and which was a v important gay center from like the 50s-80s, is now super swanky and full of touristy boutiques and expensive apartments and stuff. st vincent’s, the local hospital which had the first aids ward on the east coast, closed a couple years ago and is being replaced with luxury condos. all of this is sad enough, BUT i just found out that one of the reasons it’s so gentrified now is that the aids crisis was really awesome for real estate. ppl were dying in thousands and leaving empty apartments behind, which their landlords would then rent at higher prices until only rich ppl could afford to live there :)
I’m happy for all the boy representation in makeup but like, where is Laverne Cox’s campaign? Where is Janet Mock? They’re fucking beautiful. Or any other trans woman. Like, I saw the ONE commercial with Hari Nef and I think Jazelle is non-binary(????) and that’s cute but like…..if I have to keep seeing that Casper ass white boy and no actually beautiful women breaking barriers I’m gonna kill m’self
straight boys are weak and pathetic, queer girls walk into the ladies changing room and see ten women naked, do they stare? do they say something inappropriate? do they make them uncomfortable? no because they have the common fucking sense to recognise when a situation is sexual and that people deserve the most basic level of respect to not be harassed, yet here we are banning shorts and low cut tops in school because straight boys are weak and pathetic
If you think a sex worker loses their right to refuse sexual harassment from people just because they’re a sex worker, you’re a pile of fucking shit.
