“Of course I am!” Lilah said with a grin, nodding her head proudly. “The Ditch Day Fiasco, (copyright pending), notwithstanding, I’m always the first to arrive for anything fun. I like to set the tone. That’s just how I roll” There was always a pep in her step, and even more of one as she made her way inside the house. However it didn’t take long for the pep to go away., because Lilah could tell that there was something bothering the boy and stopped in her tracks, spinning around and reaching out a hand and placing it on his chest to stop him from going any further. “Alright boy, turn around. We still have some time before everyone else is supposed to show up and I’m going to make sure their host is in the mood to party when they get here. we’re gonna go do something fun”

“You’re the first to arrive,” Hawke said as he opened up the door for the other. “And probably the last.” He muttered the last part to himself, shuffling farther inside his house. There was definitely something bothering him, but he’d never share that it was the fact that his mom was too busy to even wish him a happy birthday. So much for a fun party.

“I could. But where would the fun be in that? I would go off, find you your gelato, and the come back and give it to you and then we would probably sit here and talk until it was time for us to take our pretty selves back home. Boring!  No, here’s what we need to do: We need to both hop into my car, stop off to get you your gelato, and then see where the night takes us from there. Do you see how much more fun that sounds? Are you in, or are you in? Notice how I didn’t really give you another option there. We’re doing this and it’s going to be fantastic”

Lilah let out a huge sigh of relief the moment she caught sight of the other girl,  immediately scurrying over to her best friend and wrapping her arms around her in a hug, resting her head on her shoulder. “Oh Helen, I think something might be wrong with me” She said in a tone of feigned moroseness as she pulled away from the embrace, sticking out her bottom lip in a pout. She held the expression for a second, before she shook her head and let out laugh that was half amused, half exasperated. “Seriously though what the hell is up with that? Had I come here for the reason you said then that wouldn’t have been so bad. Hmm. You know what? From now on, I’m saying that is the reason, and you, loving me as much as you do, aren’t going to breathe a word otherwise to anyone, including me. From now on, this is the universal truth that we are accepting starting.....now! So, Helen, how long do you realllllly want to put up with these juniors thinking they’re the top shit for the day before you give in to go deal with-” She paused to give a dramatic roll of her eyes and sighed with exasperation. “-One particular dolt  of a senior who also thinks he’s top shit?”

Approaching the girl as she began declaring her current predicament, Helen exhaled dramatically, laughing a bit as Lilah went on. “ Oh my… Are you feeling okay ? ”  Laughing, she lifted the back of her hand to her friend’s forehead. “ I was just dropping in to grab a few things and I when I saw you here, I thought ‘there’s NO way Ms. Lilah Powers herself is brown nosing on a ditch day !’ —The only other explanation was that you so graciously came here because you knew I’d be avoiding the beach for as long as humanly possible, – but you actually forgot ditch day all together !  Wow– Where has your mind been ? ”

Lilah smirked a little at the boys words, tilting her head to the side slightly. “Oh you would enjoy that wouldn’t you?” She asked rhetorically with a small laugh and a shake of her head. “Listen, I’m gonna give you free bit of advice because you’re cute and I’m in a generous mood: if you really wanna see me in my bra and panties, you’re gonna have to work just a little bit harder than that. Nice try though. Seriously, you definitely get some points for the attempt. You’re in the air. Now you just gain some height, dazzle me, and then stick the landing, and you’ll be golden” She gave the boy a small wink and playful smile. She was mostly just teasing anyway. She knew he hadn’t meant any harm by his words, and he did have a bit of a point. But her bikini was just too cute to sit in her room being unworn while she was at the beach; that would just be a travesty. But he was cute, and Lilah was up for having a bit of fun if he was willing to put in a bit of effort towards making it happen. “Now, I say that we go with hidden option number three. Cue the dramatic Jeopardy music. Hidden option number three is that you give me a ride to the beach, but we make a quick stop at my house so I can grab my stuff. If you’re serious about wanting to get me out of my clothes, that’s the option I would take. Your call though.” 

“There is one simple solution for that problem.” Hummed Alexander, standing in front of the girl just when everyone was about to leave. “You can come with us, now and just chill in your bra and panties. That’s basically what a bikini is. Or, you can go home and change and drive yourself to the beach. Personally, I would go with the first option.”

“True. If there had been a bus though, there’s no way it would have left without me on it. I mean come on. You guys all know me well enough to know that there is nothing that would keep me from being here. Ditch day without Lilah Powers? Nuh uh. No way. Not happening.” Lilah paused to shudder at the thought, before she shook her head and laughed. “Anyways enough talking about it. Point is I’m here now. Crisis averted.”

“I mean, at least it was a beach nearby. Imagine if we had all pitched for a bus to drive us down to lake Ontario or some shit, that would have been a real loss. At least you found your way here in the end too.”

Lilah couldn’t help but grin to herself a little as the boy rambled on. For one thing, now she was certain that she had definitely caught him looking at her those few times before, and that it hadn’t just been her imagination. His reaction to her appearance, and the way he was behaving made that much obvious to her and it made her heart flutter a bit. For another, he was quite adorable; his vulnerability and how flustered he was getting was sweet. An easy chuckled slipped through her lips once he had finished speaking, and she gave a small shake of her head. “Nah don’t worry about it Jack-o-Lantern, we’ll spread the joy out over the remaining days of the school year.” She said with a nod and shrug, her tone sounding as though this was something they had planned to do all along “ You won’t know when to expect them, or what to expect of them. Except that they’ll be fun of course. Because that is always expected when you spend time in the company of yours truly”

At the sound of the girl’s voice, Jack sat up, his eyes springing open just in time to watch her maker her way around him.  His brows lifted only ever so slightly as she took a seat across from him; not fully processing her words until after the initial shock of her even approaching him. “ U-Uh—uh… ”  He began ever so smoothly, before flipping the top of his pizza box closed and using his hands to sit up straight. “ I–I mean, yeah— what exactly do you mean by ‘make it happen’ ? ” Shifting in his spot for a few more seconds, a small grin twitched and threatened the edges of his lips at her following words. “ ’Lilah and Jack’… right ! ”  He tried to laugh as though this had been an ongoing joke between them but sounded a bit tight in his throat. “ Liberating… yeah, for sure, it would be !  Uh– we’re not talkin’ five days in a row, right ? I don’t know if my chemistry mark could handle it. ”

Lilah let out a small laugh as she approached the brunet boy from behind and heard his words. Lilah had decided to approach the boy who she had hardly ever spoken to because she was curious about him. She had definitely noticed him peeking a glance at her a few times in the halls, and she had always thought he was cute, but nothing had ever come of it.  Maybe it was simply the sentimental feeling that was in the air due to the fact that soon enough, most of them wouldn’t be seeing each other anymore, but she felt like she wanted to know what there was to Jack Parkson. “Hey I can definitely make that happen if you’d be down for it” She said, crossing around him before sitting herself down across from him and nodding her head. “Lilah and Jack’s Five Adventure Days! It sound like it could be a John Green novel. And that’s reason enough alone to do it without mentioning how fun and liberating it would be”

“ Aaaand ten… ”  Jack sang, tossing the final pizza crust into the open box beside him.  Letting out an exaggerated sigh, he lounged back, folding his arms behind his head. “ Can we have like, five more official-unofficial Ditch Days before the year ends ?  That’d be cool. ”  He asked aloud, to the figure approaching from behind, before closing his eyes.

Lilah’s eyebrows raised at the boys words, an amused and slightly impressed smirk dancing across her lips as she listened to him speak. “Ahh those are some big words there CJ Sullivan. Now see, they say talk is cheap. But I have to say, listening to you just now, somehow I don’t believe that you just picked those words out of some bargain bin” She responded with a small shake of her head, and a chuckle of her own. “Thankfully, as soon as I stepped foot in the hallway, I could tell something was seriously wrong just by the way the juniors were strutting around. acting as though they had just been crowned king or queen of the castle, and I immediately recognized that I had made an extremely rare mistake and wasted no time in turning on my heel and getting the hell out of there. Because let’s face facts, me missing senior ditch day would have been a horrible thing in of itself, but being stuck in a school where the juniors all feel like they’re the top shit? Well that would have simply been unbearable. After coming face to face with that prospect, our classmates could decided to spend ditch day volunteering at the retirement home and I’m pretty sure I still would have taken that option. If that doesn’t say anything about how irritating the juniors are, then nothing will because I am definitely not the kind of person who is well equipped to deal with old people ”

A look of amusement cast across his features, and the blond cocked his head to the side ever-so-slightly as she spoke. “Well, goddamn. I, CJ Sullivan, adventuring extraordinaire,” He remarked playfully and took the liberty of theatrically popping the nonexistent collar of the shirt he wasn’t even wearing as it was. “and master of all things fun on the other hand, came prepared for this opportunity to get up to cool shit with the rest of the senior class instead of sitting through more talk of the deeper meaning behind paintings of mutants holding eggs.” A chuckle finally elicited from his lips, and CJ shook his head. “Look at you almost stuck with the like three people who actually wanted to ditch senior ditch day; that would’ve been a nightmare. Welcome to paradise, though – or y’know, anywhere out of the shithole that is Pinedale.”
