Career switch to hospital admin
Career switch to hospital admin
Hi, I’m interested in a career pivot into hospital administration. I have a dual major degree in Accounting and Management information systems and I ended up working in audit. I’ve only been working here for eight months but I already know this isn’t how I want to spend my life. I want to go into healthcare but I don’t have the natural science chops to become a doctor. I’ve been applying to financial analyst positions but they all want experience so I’m not sure how that will turn out. Any advice?

Is this normal behavior for family practice doctor in the US for referrals?
Is this normal behavior for family practice doctor in the US for referrals?
I have an HMO insurance plan in the US. I went in to my family practice doctor 9 months ago because of a bout of lower back pain, hoping to get a referral to a spine doctor. Did my annual physical at the same time. He gave me a referral to some quack with terrible reviews who works in a solo practice, not part of an orthopedics group or anything. Didn't feel comfortable going to that guy. I never made an appointment, pain went away, moved on. Now 9 months later I'm having severe problems again. Call up my doctor to see if he can change the referral to point to a doctor in an orthopedics group I went to some years ago for a different issue. His office tells me they won't change it and that I have to schedule another in person appointment with my family practice doctor to get the referral changed.
Is this normal? This is a massive waste of time in my view. Do doctors give referrals over the phone normally? Especially if they just gave a referral for the same reason 9 months ago? I'm getting ready to just switch doctors because of this but not sure if it's just normal course of business.

Advice needed!
Advice needed!
So I used to always sleep with pajamas on when i was living back home but since moving in with my husband I've always slept naked and both off us always have a shower before we go to bed since my husband have OCD.
However, recently past one to two years there has been a problem arise with me which I once in a while get diarrhea all of a sudden in the middle of sleep and then i have to wake up my husband up to change the bed sheet. Not a good thing. I don't have any sign of diarrhea before bed but then I do often have bowel problems which i get indigestion easily.
Needing some advice of what to do and why this happens? Should go back to wearing pajamas while sleeping?

Is this a HIPPA violation?
Is this a HIPPA violation?
I went to a new doctor's office today. They had a check in sheet right in the lobby where you print and sign your name. I could see everyone that had signed in before me.
Is this ok? I saw my neighbors name on there too. It makes me feel weird.

What to say to get tests done
What to say to get tests done
I have had pain on my lower right abdominal for months. Went to gynecologist and had ultrasound and they said everything looks normal and that I should just go back on birth control. I was annoyed with this to begin with like this was their solution? Anyway now I've had my period for two whole weeks and still pain on right side. How can I convince them that something is wrong. I know my body and I know something is not right.

What innovative tool or idea do you wish your doctor or insurance company would implement to increase your health and well being?
What innovative tool or idea do you wish your doctor or insurance company would implement to increase your health and well being?
I work in healthcare and I’m trying to identify major gaps in care that patients experience in the US to come up with a solution. ( ie- rideshare for Medicare customers to help get patients to their doctor visits). I realize the whole system needs reformed but that’s an endeavor that I’m not able to take on lol. Do you see any needs for yourself or family or friends that would help? All ideas welcome.

I’m being billed for a Level 5 ER visit
I’m being billed for a Level 5 ER visit
Had a panic attack, squad was called to my hotel and said I had very high blood pressure plus I was sweating and short of breath. Took me in to ER. Never saw a doctor the entire time, but was given standard tests of EKG, blood and Chest XRay. Was there an hour and discharged myself with front desk because no one checked on me.
Received bill for $4,500 and a level 5 upcode. I was so furious. They won’t budge because they said 3 diagnostic tests automatically goes to level 5.
I never even saw a damn doctor once, and had to let myself go on my own. What a shit show American healthcare is.

I have to move states mid-chemo and know very little about insurance.
I have to move states mid-chemo and know very little about insurance.
Hello all. Today i found out I need to do 6 months of chemo, and currently I have bluecross blueshield of texas. My fiance has a full ride scholarship to a school in Ohio and she will be moving in july.
I can stay here the whole time but affording two rents would require us to take out a loan.
My question is:
Is it possible to find an oncologist that can resume treatment seamlessly over the phone? Its to my understanding i have to do the whole dance... get a new primary physician... schedule an appointment to get an oncologist referral.. then finally get treated. My oncologist said interrupting the flow of chemo is a huge no no if i want the best chance.
Thank you so much. Have a great week.
