at the risk of sounding all "pop music bad alt guy with guitar good" it is so funny whenever hozier gets a popular song and the mainstream tries to engage with him like a pop star. i don't even mean in a misunderstanding watering down his messages way i mean like videos circulate of that live subway performance and people are like 🤯 he can sing!!!! like he's some star whose real voice is always smothered by autotune. or you'll see some gimmick cover artist that takes pop songs and makes them [x] genre say something like "hozier but if it was a rock song" when hozier is already a rock artist. like he's not even doing anything weird but you see the system of pop culture commentary just start breaking a little every time he gets a hit
can you believe that we have fanfiction. that we have websites dedicated to fanfiction. that there is a place that you can go and read tens, hundreds, thousands and thousands of pieces of writing that strangers have made. people who are not "writers". people who come home at the end of the day and have feelings and say, i am going to put that into words. i am going to share those words. short, long, sweet, sad, horny, funny, wonderful words. we are all just human and we all love to make and remake and share that with others. can you believe that.
i have so many hobbies and interests but each day the four horsemen (instant gratification, shortened attention span, procrastination, exhaustion) grab me by the throat and shake me until i collapse in my comfy bed
Its obvious to me when people who post about canaries in mines have never met a canary. Like yeah the miners had a special device to revive the canary because canaries are one of the most adorable creatures on the planet and they make adorable little chirping sounds and honestly probably loved the sounds of machinery and people talking so it was probably loud and friendly with the workers. Whatever though maybe meet a canary sometime and youd understand
"We met next day as he had arranged, and inspected the rooms at No. 221B, Baker Street, of which he had spoken at our meeting. They consisted of a couple of comfortable bed-rooms and a single large airy sitting-room, cheerfully furnished, and illuminated by two broad windows."
