Chris has always mentioned Bonnie/Bonkai unprovoked. At times it was to call us crazy for shipping it. Other times it was to egg the shipping on. Either way he has always consistently acknowledged that Kai = Bonnie.

Part of me thinks that’s just Plec’s PR to constantly remind us shippers than Bonkai is banned 🙄 but another part of me thinks that Chris is a secret shipper and his so-called pontification is just an excuse to keep talking about Bonkai. 😂😂

One thing about Chris is he gonna find a way to mention Bonkai/Kai’s fixation on Bonnie.

He really can’t help himself. Almost 10 years and dude is still bitter than he didn’t get to make out with Kat Gram in 4KHD.

Chris actually was the one to bring up kai and bonnie they was talking about other characters who thought they would get together with bonnie and he said by the way me too and that's what started the bonkai mention 😍

Chris is so weird about Bonkai. Like it was so obvious he shipped them. I still remember that interview where the interviewer asked him which girl Kai would fall for when he came out of 1994... would it be Elena or Caroline (because Bonnie didn't count apparently) and Chris said that anyone with eyes or a brain would see that there was UST between Kai and Bonnie (in a more polite manner but the implication that it was a stupid question to ask was there).

But then after the 6x17 hiatus, he started acting like the idea was insane and fans were crazy to even think it. Someone obviously gave him a party line, and it's insane to think about how obsessed Plec is about what the cast were allowed to say about Bonnie and her ships. She literally got the entire cast to go on twitter to condemn Bonkai. Even when she "took a stand" against abusive relationships and refused to give Hayley/Elijah a happy ending, she never did that for white ships.

I get the impression ian doesn't like chris that much alot of their gags together and cons are weird whenever they was around each other kai was more popular then damon at that time and ian would get all touchy feel with kat alot more around him it was strange there was a silent man beef going on im not sure if chris was beefing with him but ian sure had some feelings about him I think chris and Paul are the only ones who are really close genuinely ian is just the brother who's mother made them have him tag along mm wasn't a threat in character popularity and wasn't interested in kat men pick up on other mens interests usually so that probably played a part too

Nothing about this surprises me, tbh.

I do wish he would have gotten more into his thoughts about them of course somebody had to bring up damon and kai for some reason it's a rare thing for bonkai to be mentioned by this man and somebody mentions something else 🙄 I cut out that mention

I have no clue what Chris was talking about prior to the clip. But you hear him say “in a really messed up way Kai and Bonnie.” My guess is someone asked him about his favorite ships. Someone in the audience then shouts Bonkai then everyone cheers. It took me a few times to hear the person shout Bonkai but it’s confirmed someone did, because Chris says “yeah she said Bonkai”

Anyway I am just shocked Bonkai is being mentioned by Chris and followed by cheers in 2024.

So I think I just saw a clip of Chris Wood mentioning Bonkai and the crowd erupting in cheers? In 2024? Not gonna lie I’m shocked since Plec and crew did all they could to not only bury Bonkai but it make it a ship that makes everyone gasp and clutch their pearls.

Chris playing enzo would have gotten the character killed off sooner damon can't be out liked and your right about bonenzo not happening this version of enzo would have hooked up with Caroline first before they killed him

And not to be (too) petty, but I wonder how much of Ian’s fondness of MM hinged on Enzo not being a popularity threat to Damon?

If Bonkai had happened, I don’t see how those writers wouldn’t have followed the “good girl” telling the villain that he’s not a monster, that he has good in him. so she soothes his manpain and “tames the beast.” I love Bonkai fanfic but plots that complex would not have been canon.

I’m on the fence for this. On the one hand, yeah the writers have a track record of doing this even in the ships they actually liked so... On the other hand, there was a lot of groundwork in early / pre-retconned Bonkai towards a story that would not have taken that direction. It really looked like they were going to make Bonnie darker and Kai lighter and have it end up with them meeting each other in the middle. But I generally agree that even if we got canon Bonkai, fanon would still do it better.

Do you know of any other fiction where the characters are Bonkai coded? I have seen some YA books come out and the authors say the couples are inspired/coded Bamon, Delena, etc, but I want Bonkai (even though TVD forever made me weary of characters who are selfless like Bonnie lol I just can’t take it again)

Damn, i have no idea but that is a brilliant idea! Maybe I’ll do just that. ;)

Kat and chris in a romantic comedy as the leads would be gold they play so well off of each other its kind of a rare thing for that kind of natural chemistry regardless of what the relationship is to exist somebody got to push to get them together in something

I'm so excited for the bonkai reunion but the real question we all need to know is will kat and chris work on another project ?

OMG, that would be The Dream! They need to do a romantic comedy together!
