First Concept Notes about the Deities

Voel started with an original deity, Ar’Avellis, and from him the rest of the world was born. The other gods are all fragments of who he was, and they shape and create off of what the first deity did. They are all worshipped by each race, but each race has their “primary” god that they revere the most.

The First, the Friendship, Ar’Avellis

- Died of heartbreak when they finally accepted that they were the only living thing in Voel, but from their blood and tears the land came to life

- Each of the lesser deities is a fragment of Ar’Avellis given new life and form (hence the “Ar” before each name to indicate that)

- Their body melded into the earth and is now part of the land, different features, such as his ribs, are now stone and large enough that they jut out of the surrounding landscape as a reminder of the dead god.

The Mischievous, the Jester, Ar’Teeli

- playful, trickster who delights in games and colorful arts.

- batlike in appearance, oldest after the First

- created the Teelans out of clay to originally be their toys, but later they evolved into their own society when the god became bored and left for several years.

- Does take responsibility if needed, and is a powerful magical god who uses cunning and dirty tricks to win. Luckily they have the world’s best interests at heart like the others.

The Guardian, the Tidemother, Ar’Quara

- The ocean itself given form through magical armor

- Thought to be a construct of the Smith, other speculate she came from the tears of Ar’Avellis and the Smith only built her precious armor.

- Wanderer, protector, kind

- “Mother” to the Tideborn, who she adopted as her own race after their ancestors had a mass exodus from the depths of the sea.

The Renewal, the Reborn, Ar’Sethros

- Serpentlike, sheds it’s skin and is reborn every age

- The scales of its first shed grew into the islands of Voel, each shed skin adds something (typically land) to the existing world

- Curious, team player, adventurous

- versatile, can fill the roles of other gods if needed and will change to better fit them

- Blessed the Dekthrians with the ability to change forms like himself

The Mourner, the Smith, Ar’Dekthris

- born from the tears of Ar’Avellis as he died

- Carved the mountain range of the main continent in honor of the First

- Merry, creative, honorable

- Created most of the races of Voel alongside Ar’Sethros, the two share a strong bond that connects even their creations in some way.

- Forged the Tidemother’s armor and created the colossus constructs of Voel

- She mourns every death of Ar’Sethros but hopes for their inevitable reunion each time, and has a friendly rivalry with Ar’Teeli over their respective creations
