MR. FUCKING BRIGHTSIDE
pairing. slytherin!jake x hufflepuff!fem!reader
summary. although sim jaeyun constantly surrounds himself with douchebags and looks like he could stomp all over a girlâs heart; you knew the real him that was deep inside. but did you really?
genre. hogwarts!au, ANGST, bits of fluff, right person wrong circumstances, forbidden/secret love
warnings. jake can be a bit of an asshole, the insult âmudbloodâ is used, slytherin gets shitted on as a house (dw, iâm a slytherin đ)
Sim Jaeyun, or everybody knew him as Jake, the sixth year Slytherin, seeker of his houseâs Quidditch team, and nevertheless, charming to every girl that has stepped foot in his proximity.
Half of your friends would disagreeâthat he was not charming but rather just another slithering snake in the worst possible house at Hogwarts.
Jakeâs friend group consisted of three people: Draco Malfoy, Blaise, and Pansy Parkinson. They just so happen to be an insufferable lot, maybe except Blaise who minded his own business half of the time.
âToday you will be working in pairs.â Professor McGonagall states, fixing her glasses as she holds a stroll of paper. âIâve already decided them, absolutely no changes.â
Thereâs groans that fill the room, one of whom you recognize as no other than Jake.
âSeriously? I wanted to pair up with Blaise!â He whines, earning a glare from Draco. âWhat? Câmon Dray, we both know you and I donât get anything done.â
âAlright,â Professor McGonagall clears her throat. âBlaise Zabini with Nancy Drumswell, Aidan Callaghan with Hermione Granger, Harry Potter with Neville Longbottom, Draco Malfoy with Pansy Parkinson, and finally, Jaeyun Sim with Y/N L/N.â
You donât blink when you realize who your partner is. Rather, you just sigh a bit in defeat, coming to the conclusion that you cannot do anything to convince McGonagall to change partners.
âHey.â Jake plops himself down on the seat next to you, laughing as Draco gives him a shove on the way to his own table.
âHi.â You murmur, suddenly finding your yellow robe more interesting than him.
âIâve never been paired with a Hufflepuff before.â He grins, the shit eating grin that weirdly captives your senses. âAre you guys as nice as you claim to be?â
âI donât know Jaeyun, you tell me.â
Jakeâs eyes widen before he lets out a giggle. âJaeyun? No one ever calls me that anymore.â
You shrug, sliding him the piece of paper with the instructions to your project. âYou can stop by the Hufflepuff dormitories at 8, Iâll be done with dinner by then and Iâll open it for you.â
âSounds like a plan sweetheart.â
You cringe at his words, the obvious disdain on your face makes him laugh even harder.
âIâll see you then.â He whispers, and just like a movie, stands up as soon as McGonagall dismisses the class, merging into one with his friends.
âĄ;
Just as the clock struck eight, you heard a knock. Your books, pens, and parchment were spread out in front of you, eagerly waiting to be used.
As you slowly get up to open the door, youâre met face to face with Jake, who entered the room with a confident stride
"Hey there, Y/N," Jake greeted, flashing you a charming smile as he took a seat across from your side of the table.
"Hey," you politely turn his smile. "Ready to tackle this project?"
"Absolutely," he affirmed, pulling out his own notes and spreading them out on the table. "I've got some ideas already. How about you?"
You nodded, slightly impressed by Jake's readiness to dive into the work. "I've been brainstorming as well. Maybe we can combine our ideas and come up with something great."
As the two of you began discussing your approaches to the project, youcouldn't help but notice how articulate and intelligent Jake was when he wasn't surrounded by his usual group of friends. His confidence shone through, but it was paired with a genuine interest in the subject matter that caught you off guard.
"You sure sound different when youâre not around Draco," You remarked.
Jake only chuckled, a hint of self-deprecation in his voice. "Yeah, well, I guess I don't always show this side of me around my friends. They have a different idea of what's cool."
You can only nod in understanding, realizing that Jake was more complex than you had initially assumed.
As you continued working, you couldnât help but find yourself paying closer attention to the small details about himâthe way his brow furrowed in concentration, the soft lilt in his voice when he explained a concept, the way his eyes sparkled with passion for the project.
"Thanks for coming, Jake," you say, offering him a genuine smile. "I really enjoyed working with you."
Jake returned your smile, his eyes meeting yours with a warmth that sent a sudden flutter through your heart. "Anytime, Y/N. I had a great time too."
As you bid each other goodnight, you couldnât help but suddenly miss his presence, something you didnât expect to happen with just one session with him.
âĄ;
In your second studying session, you and Jake found yourselves engrossed in their project once again. This time, you two decided to move to a quiet corner of the library, away from prying eyes and distractions. The Hufflepuff dorms were too crowded, and you knew youâd rather die than step into the Slytherin dormitory as a Hufflepuff.
As you discussed your research findings, you couldn't help but notice how Jake's demeanor had softened since your last meeting. He seemed more relaxed, more open, as if he felt comfortable letting his guard down around you.
Jake suddenly reached across the table to grab a book, his hand brushing against yours in the process. It was a simple gesture, but it sent a jolt of electricity coursing through your veins, leaving you quite literally breathless for a moment. âHere Y/N, I heard this book was good for this particular topic.â
Your eyes met briefly, and you felt your cheeks flush with warmth.
âThanks,â you murmur, looking down slightly.
Jake smiled back at you, seemingly oblivious to the effect his touch had on you. For a person who charms so much girls, youâd think he know how much his advances affected others.
âNo problem, seems like we got a lot done within these 2 days huh?â
"Yeah, it seems so," you reply softly.
Even though it had only been 2 nights, in those quiet moments, away from the prying eyes of their classmates, you had realized just how much you actually enjoyed Jake's company. He wasn't just the annoying Slytherin she had initially pegged him to beâhe was kind, intelligent, and surprisingly easy to talk to.
"I guess that's it for tonight," Jake said, a hint of disappointment in his voice. âCanât believe they only allow Prefects in the library past ten.â
"Yeah," you groan, feeling a pang of sadness at the thought of saying goodbye. "But we'll see each other again soon, right?"
Jake nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Definitely. Letâs just hope Malfoy doesnât ruin it.â
âĄ;
As you made your way through the corridors of Hogwarts with Hermione, you spotted Jake surrounded by his Slytherin friends, including Draco and Pansy. Suddenly feeling the wave of confidence at the sight of him, you decided to muster up the courage to approach him.
But as you drew nearer, you noticed a subtle shift in Jake's demeanor. His usual friendly expression hardened, and a smirk spread across his lips as he turned to face you and Hermione.
"Look who it is, boys," Draco says, voice dripping with sarcasm. "Little Miss Hufflepuff herself."
Jake and Pansy chuckled, exchanging knowing glances with Draco as if they were in on some inside joke. Your smile faltered, confusion and hurt swirling in your chest as you struggled to make sense of Jake's sudden change in attitude.
"Um, hi, Jaeyun," you replied, voice barely above a whisper as you fought to keep her composure.
"Seriously? Jaeyun? Thatâs hysterical.â Pansy laughs, as if it was the funniest thing in the world.
âWhat's the matter, Y/N? Can't find anyone from your own house so you bother our Jake here?â Draco continues to taunt you, his words like daggers aimed straight at your heart. âOr should I say Jaeyun?â
You felt your cheeks burn with embarrassment as the laughter of Jake's friends echoed in your ears. You had never felt so small, so insignificant to the group in front of you.
âI was hoping to discuss our project.â You say quietly, looking at anyone but Jake.
Hermione could sense your hostility, pulling you close to her side as she gave Draco a snarl.
âListen Y/N,â Jake says, âall that crap you Hufflepuffs preach about loving each other and expressing feelings is a lie. No one really cares about what you have to say.â
âAlright, thatâs enough!â Hermione says, shielding you by putting herself in front of your frame. âWhat has gotten into you?â
But Jake just shrugged her off, his smirk widening into a sneer. "Mind your own business, mudblood. This doesn't concern you."
Feeling the sting of tears threatening to spill from your eyes, you quickly turn on your heel and fled down the corridor, desperate to escape the humiliation of Jake's cruel words.
Had you really been so stupid to place your trust in Sim Jaeyun knowing full well his reputation? By the looks of it, all answers pointed to yes.
âĄ;
By 7pm, the sun had dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the surface of the Black Lake just in front of the Slytherin Common Rooms.
âY/N?â Almost as if he knew exactly where you were, Jake shows up in front of you, making you give him a glare.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N," he murmured, his voice tinged with remorse as he avoided your gaze. He takes a seat next to you on the grass, his fingers tracing patterns across them in nervousness. "I messed up back there. I let my pride get the best of me, and I hurt you in the process. I should have stood up for you."
You sighed, your heart heavy with disappointment but softened by Jake's sincerity.
âI donât get it,â you say. âOne moment youâre all kind and sincere around me, and the next, you say all these things like Iâm worth nothing.â
The two of you sat in silence for a moment, the air filled with the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant calls of birds. Then, Jake spoke again, his voice hesitant but earnest. "I guess my friends just have an influence on me that I canât control. Iâm sorry for what I said earlier, youâre one of the kindest people I've ever met, Y/N. I admire that about you."
You slightly smiled, a warm flush spreading across your cheeks. "Thank you, Jake. That means a lot to me."
As the sky darkened and stars began to twinkle overhead, the two of you continued to talk, laughter mingling with the night air.
âĄ;
The next night was one of the more important nights at Hogwarts. Everybody had finished their examsâand the Ravenclaws decided to throw a party at their Commons.
The music throbbed as you entered with Ron Weasley, who, at the sight of his twin brothers, ran towards them. You roll your eyes at his behavior, and start pulsing through the crowded room, a plastic smile plastered on your face.
You notice Jake in the corner, sipping on what looked like a bottle of beer. He exchanged nods and greetings with those around him, his eyes scanning the room for somethingâsomeone.
But before you could gawk at him any longer, Draco cut in smoothly, his tone laced with mockery. "Oh, look who decided to show up. Did you bring your Hufflepuff friend to the party, Jake? How charming."
Pansy giggled, her eyes glittering with malice as she looked at you up and down. "I didn't know us Slytherins were into charity work."
âGuys, seriously? Cut it out,â Jake gulps, eyes directly meeting yours.
âHeâs right,â Blaise says, and you swear itâs the most youâve ever heard out of him. âDonât ruin the party.â
âWhatever.â Pansy throws her hand in mock surrender. âWouldnât want to make the Hufflepuff cry.â
Hermione comes to your rescue right after Pansy throws you a glare.
âPiss off.â She says, interlocking her arms with yours.
âThanks âMione.â You thank her softly as youâre lead away from the lot. âFor saving me back there.â
âAlways,â she smiles. âNow cmon, I heard Ronâs already drunk!â
You two giggle at that, you letting Hermione lead the way into the crowd of people.
âĄ;
Itâs about 2 hours later and the Ravenclaw party is still loud as ever, filled with with laughter and music.
Despite the Weasley twins making a full ruckus of themselves, your eyes were drawn to a figure slumped in a corner. It was Jake, only this time, he looked uncharacteristically vulnerable, his face pale and contorted with some type of emotion you hadnât seen before.
Concern etched onto your features, and your body felt itself navigating through the crowd of people until youâre knelt beside him. "Jake? Are you alright? Whereâs Draco?â
He lifted his head, and you swore you felt your heart clenched at the sight of his glassy eyes and trembling lips. "I'm fine," he mumbled, but his voice betrayed the lie.
"No, you're not," you reply softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "What's wrong?"
Jake swallowed hard, his gaze flickering with a mix of emotions. "It's... it's nothing," he slurred, but his words lacked conviction.
You stayed silent, sensing he needed to unburden himself. After a moment, he spoke again, his voice raw with emotion. "Do you think Iâm good for nothing?â
"What?" You asked gently, your heart sinking as you watched him struggle to form his thoughts.
"I mean look at this, look at me," Jake gestured vaguely, gesturing to the party around the two of you. "This charade I constantly put on. Pretending to be someone I'm not."
Your brows furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I mean..." Jake trailed off, his breath hitching. "Was it all worth the six years of be pretending to be who I wasnât? Pretending to be the egoistic charming Slytherin everyone claims to know so well?â
Jake pauses before looking up at you, his eyes swimming with unshed tears. "You know I care about you a lot, right? I like you, a lot.â
âYou do?â You say quietly, brushing a few loose strands of hair out of his eyes.
âBut we just canât.â
âWhat?â
âWhy not?â
"Because,â Jake's voice cracked, and he looked away. "Because I wish you were in Slytherin."
You felt your heart shatter into a million pieces at his words. You almost knew it then, with a painful realization that you could never compete with the loyalty he felt towards his house and the expectations placed upon him by his housemates.
Tears stung your eyes as you realized there was nothing she could do to change his mind. With a heavy heart, you rose to your feet.
âWell Iâm sorry then, Jake.â You say, turning around so he wouldnât see your tears.
And as you walked away, the echoes of his confession lingered in your mind, haunting your thoughts with the bitter realization that sometimes, love simply wasn't enough.

BUT WHY? WHY NOT.

âYou know I love you and Iâd never do anything to harm you, right?â
Park Sunghoon always loved to say that to you, especially when you separated your mouth from his and youâd give him those eyes that told him youâd do anything for him.
You were just so easy. Easy prey to catch for big strong intimidating Park Sunghoon. Easy prey to feast upon.
He was a gentleman. Looking back at the past 7 months of your relationships, you never once remembered having to open a door handle by yourself. His hand was already there before you could even touch the metal knob.
âWhat boyfriend would I be if I let you open doors all by yourself?â Heâd say with an eyebrow raise and a smirk.
Even though he was clearly teasing you, you felt giddy that you had such a great boyfriend like him.
You just wish you saw the signs sooner.
đ«
The first red flag was how twitchy Sunghoon would get at random times. Sure, it was normal for Sunghoon to be a bit shyâeven awkwardâbut the sudden twitchiness didnât go unnoticed by you. It was almost if he was uncomfortable in his own skin, desperate to get out.
But Park Sunghoon was perfect. He was the perfect boyfriend, the perfect son, and the perfect boy, there was nothing wrong with him, right?
Right.
âI donât know,â Sana says as she shakes her head, clearly frightened by whatâs happening. âI feel like someone is stalking us.â
Your friend group collectively starts comforting her, all besides your boyfriend who sat next to you with a frown.
âIâm sure itâs nothing,â you say, rubbing Sanaâs hands comfortingly. âRight Hoonie?â
âYeah.â If thereâs another thing about your boyfriend, heâs good at reassuring people. âMaybe youâre overthinking Sana? Itâs okay, youâre safe with us.â
âHeâs right.â Hyoseop, one of your other friends, chimes in. âBesides San, you canât let this scary moment dictate your life!â
Sana nods solemnly. âI guess. Are we still on that camping trip this weekend?â
âHell yeah we are!â Your friend group cheers, which is more than enough to make Sana feel better about the whole situation.
đ«
âSleeping tents?â
âCheck.â
âFlashlights?â
âCheck.â
âBatteries?â
âCheck.â
âToothââ
âBaby.â Sunghoon wraps his arms around you from behind, putting his chin on your shoulder. âI promise we have everything, letâs go before weâre late and Eunae makes a big deal about it.â
You giggle, turning around to give him a proper hug. He smelt exactly like the vanilla scented candles you loved so much.
âYouâre right, I donât want Eunae on our asses in the middle of the woods.â
Sunghoon drives the both of you in his green shiny Jeep, the one his dad had bought him last month. The camp site was about 2 hours from your house, so you plugged your headphones in, leaning against the window as one of Sunghoonâs hands comes to hold your thigh.
âWake up sleepyhead.â He says, flicking your forehead which makes you jolt from your sleep.
âYah Hoonie! Donât do that,â your cheeks puff out in annoyance, and your boyfriend canât help but laugh, pinching it between his thumb and index finger.
âI texted Hyoseop, he says theyâre already all here.â Sunghoon opens up the trunk, pulling out all your stuff with a grunt. âJesus, itâs just 2 nights and weâre packing like weâre moving here or something.â
You roll your eyes, âwe need to be as prepared as possible! I donât even like camping, but Eunae insisted.â
âWell Eunaeâs a bitch.â
You slap his arm, making the boy jump. âHoon! You canât say that out loud.â
âYouâre thinking it too baby.â He swings his heavy duffle over one of his shoulders, his other arm holding the gigantic tent you guys had bought to share for the 2 nights.
âI donât know why you couldnât just put all your things in our big backpack.â You say, already feeling out of breath as you guys make your way to the site. âYou donât even have that much clothes anyway Hoonie.â
âJust wanted my own bag, thatâs all.â He smiles. âPlus, the backpack is already extra heavy with all your stuff.â
You whine at his words, making him chuckle.
âY/N! Sunghoon!â The voice of Inyoup, Hyoseopâs brother, echoes through the area. âYou made it!â
âCourse we did.â Sunghoon dabs up the boy, which leaves you to say hi to Eunae and Jihyun.
âWhereâs Sana?â You ask, not seeing the familiar ginger anywhere in sight.
Jihyun pulls out her phone, checking Sanaâs location. âShe should be here by 7, said sheâs running a little late because of boyfriend things.â
Jihyun sends the group a wiggle of the eyebrows, which stirs up laughter and a gross! from Inyoup.
â7 is gonna be so dark though, Iâll make sure to go fetch her.â Hyoseop says. âNow câmon, letâs get a bonfire settled!â
đ«
Night time rolls around quicker than expected, the sky above already clearing out with the few stars being the only source of light in the surrounding campsite.
âAre you cold?â Sunghoon asks, pulling you closer to his side as all of you sit on the pieces of wood in front of the fire.
âIâm better now with you generating all this heat.â You joke, digging yourself closer into his side. âActually, did you bring any extra coats Hoon?â
He doesnât really hear your question, too engrossed in whatever horror story Jihyunâs telling the group.
âYeah yeah.â He says, waving you off.
You take yourself out of his hold, going over to your tent. Honestly, it was a mess, but you were able to make out Sunghoonâs filled to the brim duffle bag. You open it, trying to scuffle through for something warm to wear.
âAh shit,â you whisper, taking your cut finger to your mouth before examining the cut clearer. âWhat the hell?â
You uncover the jacket that was covering whatever sharp object that had sliced through your finger earlier.
It was a long sharp knife.
Where did your boyfriend get this? You hadnât seen a knife like this around in your house, and more importantly, why?
Itâs probably for precaution. Your brain tells you. Sunghoon is always so careful, he probably wants it to be safe incase any wild animals come.
So you ignore the knife, placing it back inside Sunghoonâs duffle. You place his jacket and make your way outside.
âItâs already 6:50, maybe we should go pick up Sana now.â You say, blowing air into your hands since it was starting to freeze.
âOh shit, Iâm cooking right now.â Hyoseop looks at the grill heâs currently grilling meat on and then back to the group. âCan someone else go get her? Preferably a guy, we shouldnât let the girls walk out this dark.â
âIâll go get her.â Sunghoon offers. âLet me just put on another layer really quick.â
You take a seat next to Inyoup, sipping on a glass bottle of Coca Cola.
âYou think we can curl our hair with these like Olivia Rodrigo said in her song?â Jihyun jokes, raising her empty bottle up into the air. âIâm gonna try it.â
âYou go do that.â Eunae scoffs, clearly unimpressed with the girl.
đ«
It takes approximately about 25 minutes for you and the group to start worrying, not seeing Sana or Sunghoon in sight.
âThe parking isnât that far right? They shouldâve been here 5 minutes ago.â Hyoseop says, setting the silver plate of food onto one of the wooden logs near the grill.
âNo yeah, Iâm getting worried.â Jihyun stands up, âIâm gonna get a flashlight and look for them at this point.â
Jihyun makes her way to the tent she shares with Eunae, which was right across from yours.
âShit shit shit,â she mumbles, her hands rummaging through the messy tent. âShit!â
âWhatâs wrong?â You ask, quickly running over. âJihyun, whatâs wrong?â
âSome animal mightâve came in earlier and ruined our things.â Jihyun places a hand on her forehead, clearly stressed about the whole ordeal. âPlease tell me thereâs still a flashlight.â
She checks through her and Eunaeâs bag, only to find everything but a flashlight.
âItâs okay Ji, me and Hoon have a few in our tent.â You reassure her, which makes the girl feel a bit better.
âSunghoonâs back!â
Inyoupâs announcement makes you practically bolt out of Jihyunâs tent right away.
âHoon!â You rush over to him, cupping his face. âWhyâd you take so long? Whereâs Sana?â
He gently peels your hand off, looking back at the group with a smile. âShe says she forgot her toothbrush on the way and sheâs gonna drive to the nearest CVS. Should be back in 20 minutes.â
The rest of the group seems to buy Sunghoonâs words, all except Eunae.
âWell why did you take so long then, Sunghoon?â
âOh fuck off Eunae.â Inyoup exclaims. âItâs too dark right now for you to start an argument.â
Eunae scoffs. âYou know what? Fine. Iâm gonna take a dip in the lake, I donât want to be near any of you right now.â
When sheâs finally gone, Inyoup whistles. âI still donât know why weâre all friends with her when she makes everything miserable.â
âLetâs just calm down.â As usual, your boyfriend is the mediator, which makes you smile and lean into his side.
âYou canât be worrying me like that Hoon!â You groan, hitting him in the chest jokingly. âHad me thinking you were lost.â
âBaby you know me,â he grins. âIâm great at navigating in the night time.â
He suddenly pulls away, âah, Iâm so hot from all the walking. Iâm gonna go dip my legs in the lake for a bit.â
âOkay,â you give him a peck on the cheek. âDo you want me to come with you?â
âYou can come if you want baby.â He looks down to make direct eye contact. âI know Hyoseop just made beef. You wanna eat that first and meet me later?â
You think about it a second before nodding, placing one last kiss on his face. âYouâre right. Iâll see you in a bit Hoonie.â
đ«
Sunghoon sighs in relief, finally glad to have you off his back for a while.
He takes out the familiar black suit and mask, the one that is seen so many times in the scream franchise. The ghostface mask and suit.
He places it over his body, the mask fitting his face so perfectly that heâs in awe.
He already knows his first victim.
Choi fucking Eunae.
God, did she annoy him. Always getting into petty disagreements, always making a ruckus out of nothing. And tonight? The way she accused him so adamantly, the way her eyes crinkled on disgust as she looked at him.
He had to get rid of her.
âSurprise Eunae.â
Eunaeâs arms are no use to Sunghoonâs muscular ones thatâs wrapped around her throat.
âHelp!â Eunae tries to scream, but it only comes out squeaky and inaudible.
âPoor little helpless Eunae,â Sunghoon taunts. âTaking a dip in the lake to cool her nerves because she just canât help her silly little thoughts in her head.â
He points the sharp end of the knife directly at her throat, making a slight tear which lets blood flow down.
âWhy are you doing this?â Eunae chokes up, tears already falling like a waterfall. âSunghoon?â
She wouldnât have known it was him because of the mask, but the voice taunting her earlier gave it all away.
âGoodnight Eunae.â
Sunghoon stabs the girl repeatedly until she stops squirming in his hold. Then, he lets go of the body, watching as it floated face down on the lake.
Theyâll find her by next week, he thinks. The copsâof course. Not your friends, not you. You all would be dead by tomorrow morning before you even knew Eunae was missing.
âAw man.â He frowns. âShe got my gloves all bloody.â
đ«
Sunghoon knew you would come looking for him later, he just didnât know when. Therefore, he knew he had to leave the premises immediately as to not be caught near Eunaeâs body.
He already knew his next victims, anyway. The two brothers, Kang Hyoseop and Kang Inyoup.
He had already gotten rid of Sana, who, at the sight of him in the ghostface mask and suit, barfed all over the parking lot. He found it both amusing and fascinatingâhow the human mind could freak itself out so much to the point of physical sickness.
âEunae! Is that you? Look, Hyoseop said I should apologize earlier for what I did, and although I donât want to, he might be right.â
Maybe Sunghoon didnât have to leave. Maybe Kang Inyoup showing up now was a sign from the universe.
He quickly makes his way behind one of the tall trees, which was enough to hide him but also enough to see Inyoupâs movements.
Inyoup goes towards the dock of the lake, âEunae? Why the hell are you swimming like that?â
He giggles, not realizing how serious the situation was and that Choi Eunae had been dead for 10 minutes already.
Inyoup gets closer, his fingers gripping at Eunaeâs arm. When he flips her over, he lets out a scream of terror, which has Sunghoon coming to put his hands over the boyâs mouth.
âWhat the fuckââ Inyoup cries out, eyes still not believing what they just witnessed. âWhat the..â
âItâs a real shame.â Sunghoon whispers in his ear, the knife heâs holding is dangerously close to Inyoupâs abdomen. âWhen Y/Nie first introduced me to the group, you were so welcoming and kind to me. You even opened up to me before Hyoseop.â
âSunghoon?â Inyoup breathes out, and he canât help but feel betrayal sink into his heart. âNo, please, you canât do this.â
âDidnât you say you got that job offer in Osaka? Japan is beautiful.â Sunghoon takes a jab, which causes Inyoup to move forward in Sunghoonâs hold, groaning from the pain and impact. âItâs too bad you wonât ever step foot in Osaka.â
And he kills him. Drags Inyoupâs body into the lake, which floats along with Eunaeâs.
âYou can apologize to her in the afterlife.â Sunghoon shrugs, finding himself oh so funny.
âOne Kang brother down, the next to go.â
đ«
Now Kang Hyoseop was no idiot. He knew his brother and Eunae had been gone for far too long, he knew Sunghoon had been gone for far too long. And Sana? She didnât even come to the camping site like Sunghoon had confidently stated earlier.
âHyoseop.â Sunghoon shows up behind him, only this time, the suit and mask are off.
âSunghoon.â Hyoseop tries his best to give a sincere smile, but Sunghoon knows.
He knows.
âYou didnât have any food Sunghoon, you must be hungry.â
Sunghoon doesnât know what Hyoseopâs playing at, but heâs already sick of the boy. His body feels itchy, and he has the urge to kill kill kill.
âWhereâs Y/N and Jihyun?â
âOh you know, at the lake. They needed to cool themselves off after such a hot dinner.â
Sunghoonâs eyebrows raise, and he finds his itching fingers reaching for the knife thatâs tucked behind him.
âHyoseop.â He says.
âYes Sunghoon?â
Sunghoon pins down the boy, which is a much harder struggle than Eunae or Inyoup. Hyoseop had been going to the gym, and the boy was no weakling when it came to fights.
âI fucking knew it.â Hyoseop spits at Sunghoon. âYou were the common denominator. Always so secretive and weird around us. I knew it.â
He says that with such disgust that it has Sunghoon cackling, impressed with the guy beneath him.
âBut you didnât say anything Hyoseop? You just let yourself go on a camping trip with the one guy you knew had bad intentions?â
âFuck you!â Hyoseop tries to kick Sunghoon off of him, but it only makes the boy on top press on him harder. âI wanted to be wrong you know. I wanted to be completely wrong about thinking you were some fucked up loser for the sake of Y/N. But God, you are even worse than that.â
Sunghoon leans closer to Hyoseop, their cheeks touching.
âSee you in hell Hyoseop.â
Then all the struggling stops.
Itâs so easy, Sunghoon thinks. He didnât even have to take months to plan this all out, when Choi Eunae said she wanted to go on a camping trip, he knew it was the perfect opportunity to strike.
đ«
âWe have to go.â Jihyun says, grabbing your arms.
You were busy crying, feeling disgusted and horrified at the two bodies of your close friends in the lake.
Who the hell had done this to them?
âWhereâs Hoonie?â You cry out. âWe have to get Hoonie.â
âWeâll find him.â Jihyun reassures you, but her brain says the opposite.
She didnât want to find Sunghoon. Like Hyoseop, she had a weird feeling about your boyfriend from the get-go. She just didnât have the guts to tell you.
âY/N, shh.â Jihyun places her index finger against your lips. âYou hear that?â
Itâs the sound of a body dragging, and you could make out the silhouette of someone tall.
âI have a gun in my tent,â Jihyun whispers. âI have to go get it. Can you distract him?â
You nod timidly, feeling fear strike every nerve in your body.
You throw a big stick across to the lake, which makes a dipping sound that has the man turning.
Jihyun, who had been the star of the track team in her high school days, runs like sheâs never ran before, almost tripping over her own foot.
The man drops the body, and starts getting closer to the lake, making your breath hitch.
You watch Jihyun in the tent, letting yourself let out a breath of relief when she shows you the small gun in her hand.
âSurprise!â
Suddenly, the manâs sights are no longer on the lake, but on you.
His ghostface mask bashes against your face, making you let out a whine of pain.
âJihyun! Jihyun!â You scream.
Jihyun panics, her hands shakily try to position the gun so that it wonât hit you.
She shoots, her eyes closing from the shock after the bullet leaves the gun, making a loud sound.
The man who had a hold on you falls back, grunting in pain.
His arms are behind his back, trying desperately to keep his body sitting upright.
âThatâs what you get fucker!â Jihyun shouts, running over to you and pulling you close to her side. âFor what you did to our friends.â
You hesitantly walk to the man, whoâs body was shaking. You take off his mask, only to reveal the one person you wished it wasnât.
Park Sunghoon.
Your boyfriend.
âSunghoon?â You sob out. âWhat? Why? Why? Why are you doing this?â
Youâre practically shouting now, horrified at the thought of your boyfriend killing your own friends.
His mouth was dripping blood, and his body looks like it was spasming.
Still, he grins, eyes filled with something you canât recognize. He has no remorse.
âWhy not?â
Jihyun decides sheâs had enough, pointing the gun directly at Sunghoonâs head.
His once shaking body crumples to the floor immediately, and you feel your knees buckling at the sight.
âShhh,â Jihyun hugs you from behind, although she too is crying. âLetâs get out of here.â
It all starts to make sense now. The flashlights disappearing, the knife you found in Sunghoonâs duffle.
Although all of this is terrifying, his last words still rang in your ear.
Why not?
