come back from the dead here to say I’ve just discovered that Fredersdorf was the last of the seven children of Jochim and Anna Christiane Fredersdorf. The dad was a “Kunstpfeifer”
edit: after some research.. Kunstpfeifer is like a professional city/travelling musician??

(Voltaire to Wilhelmine, may 1752)

judge a book by over time! which fritz's bio have the best cover in your opinion?
Oooh, interesting question! I love book covers :DD
There are quite a few to choose from... Let's start with classic portrait covers!
I have a bit of a soft spot for the painting used for the Venohr bio even though I have massive problems with Venohr himself (he of Vagina Letter Fame...). I don't own that one. I have seen one version of this portrait though, it's in a palace close to me :DD And Fritz has a massive ass in it. The other two books I do have and the textured paper used for the Luh cover somehow makes it work despite not looking like much here. Love how the fonts used in those two are somehow extremely Of Their Time. For Blanning I definitely prefer this version of the cover over the one with the yellow-ish bust on a black background. It's a nice colour, it looks good on the shelf and showing half his face makes it look like they did a bit more than just copy paste the portrait, idk. I like it. Overall I like it when covers use any portrait but the Graff one or the super angular Old Fritz of the 19th century.
Non-Portrait Covers!
I do not have that version of the Mitford bio, I have a very ugly German version by Fischer publishing. It is very yellow and has the Graff portrait on it (it is also abridged... but it was cheap). I like the idea of using the little figurine for the cover, it's a very recognizable silhouette and I feel like it somehow works with Mitford's style of narration, if that makes sense? :'D For the Duffy one... I just really like paintings, what can I say? I feel like the placement and font choice of the title could have been done better though.
I'd like to see more creative covers for biographies... Feel free to add any that you like, these are just ones I remembered off the top of my head ^^
While we're on the subject of covers: Shoutout to Krockow and his publisher for this thing
Making Friech look like the villain of the show is absolutely the right vibe for a double bio with Henri, but why would you choose THIS portrait out of all available portraits of Henri? This is the actor playing Henri in a hollywood biopic...
