Queen of Kingsbury's first time in an ambulance, and other adventures of The Last Single Girl in New York.
Good morning and HAPPY FRIDAY! It is indeed Friday and I am currently enjoying iheartradio Beyoncé featuring Jay-Z “Drunk in Love”—my favorite new JAM. #forreal I love lent in WNY, despite the March blizzards. March, to me, means college hoops (my favorite) and the hopes of spring training, golf and many other wonderful springtime things. It also means that the local candy store, Oliver’s Candies in Batavia, New York (google it, they ship all over the world!) is selling lots of wonderful things for Easter. I gotta say, looking for that Easter basket was one of my favorite things growing up. My mother tells the Easter bunny to just plop the baskets on the dining room table now. Lame.
Moving on to what this blog post is really about. About a month ago, I had one of the scariest moments in my life. I called 911 ON MYSELF. You might think this is perfectly normal, but physically I was fine. I was not dying of blood loss, nor did I have a broken leg or fall or anything. I was having a SEVERE panic attack. I tried several times to go to bed, to practice deep breathing, but it was not helping. I should have prefaced this by saying that I suffer from bi-polar disorder. Google it, I really don’t want to get into it. I was diagnosed at 19 after dropping out of The University at Buffalo and have really struggled with it. It’s hard to talk about mental illness with people, especially with the stigma attached to it.
Anyway, back to the ambulance…
I called 911 at about 4:30 am and went BY MYSELF all the way from Batavia to Buffalo. This was really hard. No boyfriend (I’m single) no parents, just my purse, my iPhone and some nice medics. I was definitely manic, but you guys, the ambulance ride on the thruway was SO SMOOTH. #impressed Once we got to ECMC they check you in and take away everything—-once you’re in the psych ward, they even take away your will to live. I’m talking no shoes with strings, chairs filled with sand so you don’t get into a fit of rage over the hospital food being too balanced and healthy and throw the chairs at staff. A private bathroom (very nice) but also 15 minute checks at night like when you were throwing up as a kid and your mom had to make sure you were still breathing. All in all, prison. Seriously though, for the next few posts I am going to talk about ECMC  and please please, if you’re  in the WNY area and need help for mental health, check out ECMC in the City of Buffalo. They really saved my life.

Good morning from Coffee Culture, the local hub with free Wifi where they play slow jamz, mostly of the jazzy nature. I know this because I can hear it over Whiskeytown on my iheartradio playlist. If you’ve never heard of Whiskeytown, I highly recommend them. Please run (don’t walk) but also (don’t slip on the snow and ice) and grab one of their albums. Or download iheartradio and enjoy their music on your iPhone for FREE GUYZ. FREE. #awesome. I’m listening to The Avett Brothers station, and it randomly selects songs like The Avett Brothers and plays them for you. If you didn’t think your iPhone and iheartradio didn’t know you as well as your husband/boyfriend/bestfriend, THINK AGAIN. #scaryright?
Now for the real reason we’re all here today. This post is all about how Kiehl’s (just click on that URL and be BLOWN AWAY) and other L’Oreal subsidiary companies have saved my life (LITERALLY GUYZ) this winter. In Western New York, where I have lived my whole life, the climate is #craycray. It is 40’s and sunny one day, and then yesterday——oh goodness. I don’t even want to say BLIZZARD. But that’s what weather men and women tell me. Life went on, and today, as I sit here, life returns to normal with a shit ton of snow on the ground and a million cars on the road (we don’t walk in Batavia, get real) #lazy #talkingaboutme #notBataviansingeneral. Anyway, enough about the weather. We rarely talk about it here. If I lived in Atlanta, I’d be confined to the house or the highway right about now, because that’s what happens in the South when there is like 2 inches of snow. Or so I hear from my Uncle who lives down there (he is also a native of WNY) #cold #blizzards #we’reusedtoit.Time to move onto KIEHL’S…
Kieh’s has been around since 1851. It was founded, as it tells me when I hit the About Us tab on their website, as a one-world apothecary in New York’s East Village. Guys, check them out. They are a “part” of the L’Oreal family, and guys, really. Any of the L’Oreal companys are good. Trust me. My name starts with an L and I love make-up, hair care, skin care, etc. This pasty white girl will tell you time and time again how important this stuff is. Kieh’s saved my life this winter, especially their skincare. Creme de Corps, the pump bottle, is pure GOLD. Well, it’s yellow, but you will never ever regret. It ranges from a cheap $11.00 up to $75.00 for the motherload. #bestlotion. I accidentally gave myself a chemical peel (not even kidding) and this stuff brought my glow back and really moisturizes.
Moving on to my make-up bag. Baby lips, by Maybelline, is THE BEST for winter. I use it on it’s own, and was gifted a few colors from my brother. I love the bright pink called “Baby Lips Pink Punch.” I leave it matte or add Maybelline Sensational in Peach Sorbet for a high gloss finish. That, along with my Maybelline foundation, great lash mascara, and blush from my old employer The Body Shop (check them out, they’re out of the UK) and I’m set this winter. Bring it on polar vortex.
If You like my ramblings, please follow me on twitter. Until tomorrow… Xo, Lauren

"The Last Single Girl in New York" is Bloggin'
Good morning from balmy Batavia, New York, a little egg of a town sandwiched between Buffalo and Rochester, New York. My name is Lauren Genesky, and...this is my blog. I am not a professional writer, blogger, and get paid by no one to do nothing. I am currently unemployed, and will shamelessly promote my favorite things on Twitter, Facebook, and to anyone who will listen in the hopes of a retweet by a celebrity. I am 27 years old and, like many wannabe students or professionals, I am sitting in Coffee Culture right now, a shop "downtown" drinking hot tea with honey and waiting for a hot person to walk in. It is currently a hazy 39 degrees, or so says my new iphone 5c in robin's egg blue. I am wearing hipster glasses and combat boots recently purchased from maurices. I have an unhealthy relationship with pop culture, and especially Saturday Night Live and any funny person in this entire world. I am fresh out of a local hospital for mental health...stuff. More on that later. If you're single anywhere in this world, please keep reading. My blog will get more streamlined as I go. Best, Lauren. Xo
