Forget politics, Pakistan is drowning | The Pakistan Journal
It seems almost certain that the devastating floods that have ravaged Pakistan since late July are going to have a severe and long-lasting impact on Pakistan’s already fragile and mismanaged economy.
The floods have decimated Pakistan’s most potent and fertile agricultural land, along the banks of the Indus River, they have destroyed a large share of the livestock population, and they have left more than 4 million people entirely homeless. The number of people affected now exceeds 20 million.
These people’s livelihoods, health and future prospects have drowned in the floodwaters.
Some of the worst-hit areas along the Indus River are Southern Punjab and rural Sindh. The current ruling party, President Asif Ali Zardari’s PPP is almost entirely dependent for its power on an intergenerational vote bank in this feudal “deep south” of Pakistan.
While the term feudal often conjures up images of unmitigated exploitation, in Pakistan, the social contract between the feudal rich and the poor is more complex. As protectors of their people, feudals cannot antagonize the very people that till their land, harvest their crops and most importantly, consistently turn out to vote for them.
The flooding has been of Biblical proportions. For the first time in many of the sleepy and tranquil villages of the PPP’s heartland in South Punjab and Sindh, people have needed their feudal lords to protect and care for them.
Competing for favor with the traditional PPP elite of these areas are the new industrial elite of the Punjab, the Pakistani military itself, and of course, the banned militant Islamist group, the Jamaat ud Dawa.
Added to this vulnerability of the Southern Punjab and Sindh, are images of President Asif Ali Zardari traversing the globe, in France, in the United Kingdom, and just this week, in Russia.
Overall, it’s hard to imagine that President Zardari and the PPP can survive the political impact of the floods. Yet Pakistan is a place that always stretches the imagination.
At his most popular, President Zardari scarcely enjoyed more than 20 percent favorable ratings. He is no Obama, and never has been. Luckily for him, power does not depend on the news media’s approval, or urban sentiment, or even the opinion of the average PPP voter in South Punjab and Sindh.
Domestically, the PPP has two sources of power — the Bhutto legacy, and the feudal patrons of South Punjab and Sindh. After all is said and done, the floods will have only the most marginal impact on either of them.
Internationally however, one of the most bankable assets of the PPP is its appeal as a relatively moderate party lead by a highly Westernized cadre of key leaders and advisers. The floods are going to leave this traditional area of strength for the PPP badly disfigured.
President Zardari’s ill-advised, insensitive and poorly timed trips to Europe at the beginning of the catastrophe, and to Russia right at the peak of the destruction, represent only the tip of the iceberg for the international community.
There is an element of the boy who cried wolf about this government that is inescapable. The human catastrophe that these floods represent requires an international response that provides assistance to both international and Pakistani civil society, and to the Pakistani government.
But President Zardari and key members of his foreign policy team, like the Pakistani Ambassador to the United States, have spent almost two years constantly repeating the “Pakistan needs the world’s support” refrain, as a quid pro quo for conducting military operations against terrorists hiding out in the tribal areas of Pakistan.
As far back as April of 2009, the ambassador was making impassioned pleas for a “Marshall Plan” for Pakistan worth at least $30 billion. Now that Pakistan really and truly needs $30 billion, it is going to be hard for the PPP’s team of feudal lords and public intellectuals to make the case for aid to Pakistan with any rigor or credibility.
This distasteful reality is generating palpable fears that the first institutional casualty of the floods will be Pakistan’s emaciated democracy. That would be adding a deep and irreversible insult to the severe injury inflicted by these floods.
As floodwaters continue to threaten the lives of millions more this week, the first and only focus of people, no matter where they live and what country they are from, should be on the humanitarian catastrophe represented by these floods. Supporting the international and Pakistan NGOs working round the clock to save lives is the best way to do that.
For all its political missteps and poor choices, these floods are not the product of the civilian government’s incompetence, or the military’s lust for power. They are the natural consequence of the most devastating rains seen in these parts in more than 80 years.
President Zardari’s mistakes will eventually catch up to him, and his party. But they will only do so in the sustained environment of a democracy. Any military intervention in Pakistan will wipe away these mistakes. Even as it is inundated by floodwater, democracy remains Pakistan’s greatest hope for a better future. Our dislike of Pakistan’s feudal elite shouldn’t distract us from that fact.

JC Penney is a huge corporation with stores all over the country. However, for some reason, they don’t give all their stores the same consideration. I worked at one of them and it seemed like our store was the forgotten store, as if they didn’t really care about it or what happened to it.
There were a few things they did care about though. Such as, ICAPs or soliciting credit cards, sales, shrinkage, and customer satisfaction. As far as ICAPs go, my store was pretty good at getting them. It really isn’t that hard to ask someone if they would like to open up a card but it can be disheartening when you hear no so much. Our sales didn’t go well which could be a contributing factor to them not worrying about our store. There were a lot of days that we were down and shrinkage is just horrible there. Everything seems to walk out of the store. But we were number one with customer satisfaction. I’m going to try to apply a SWOT analysis in order to come up with a solution for getting our sales up and our shrinkage down. We have to stop letting products just walk out the door.
I’m going to talk about the strengths first. Our store has some amazing people working for them and they are people who actually care and want to do a good job. If they used them more and gave them more hours they might see their sales go up. These are people who can get people to buy from the website online or suggest different clothes or products if we don’t have them. They wouldn’t let a possible sale leave the store without exhausting all of their efforts. They also have a training supervisor who could really train the new hires in realizing what importance a sale has to the store. In terms of shrinkage, they have an LP who does her job pretty well. She has caught plenty of people while I’ve been there and she knows how to handle a situation professionally.
Their weaknesses would have to be that they hire all high school kids who don’t really understand or care about the job. But they’re cheap labor. Their location in the mall could also be a weakness. They are sort of at one end of the mall and it would be better if they were in the middle so they would get hit with everyone. Having new merchandise so close to the door is definitely a weakness and it doesn’t always have ink tags on it.
They have plenty of opportunities to improve sales and the amount of shrinkage. For sales they could train people a little better in knowing the products so they can sell them. They could do a little more advertising in the mall with signs that might draw people in. They have signs right out the door but the store is in a corner and not everyone sees them. To improve the amount of shrinkage they could hire another LP that way if one has to take care of something the other can still watch the cameras. They could turn the alarms on so if someone walks out with an ink tag it goes off. They could hire people to take care of the fitting rooms and watch what people take in and take out. They could even make them locked so people have to ask to go in and show what they have.
The biggest threat they have is that they can’t afford to hire more people or do more training. They can’t afford to give more hours to those that are already great at their job but they hire new people at a lesser wage and give them hours since they are cheaper. But that is a big problem because then they make mistakes and don’t keep an eye on things. Then the people who are great at their job want to leave because they aren’t getting the hours they deserve. This in the end loses the company money because they aren’t pulling in the sales like they were.
If corporate would allow more budgeted hours for the entire store, they could hire a fitting room attendant to watch for shrinkage and another LP to assist the current one. It would probably cut down a lot of the shrinkage and possibly help the sales go up. Not only could they do that but they could afford to give the good people their hours that they want which would also bring their sales up. From the SWOT analysis I can conclude that the store may not do better if they don’t hire better people or keep the great people that they already have.

The Economic Titanic Of The United States Of America Is Sinking But The Americans Are Still SleepingThe continuously widening economic turmoil of the United States of America is making everyone believe that this lone superpower is losing the ground. Cracks on the wall of the Iron fort which USA was maintaining its strength since the last century.
After the Second World War, the rise of Western Economic Power and the creation of NATO strengthened the position of United States. USA enjoyed a great period of success, stability and prosperity until it engaged itself with head on collision with Islam. The love of Israel for certain reasons made US the most hated figure in the Islamic World. It did not happen overnight but gradually since the last few years. Be it 9/11 or WMD drama against Iraq or the support to Israel during continuous massacre in Gaza, US may have achieved the sympathies of handful of Jewish community but lost the trust of billions of Muslims around the world.
It is to be understood when seen with Muslims’ perspective, that, things may go wrong even if planned well when Allah’s will is not there to support. When we see prolonged aggression against Muslims by the USA to secure Israel’s existence, we would come to know about the fact that every prolonged military confrontation results in a compound loss on all fronts. Had Americans surgically carried out attacks in Afghanistan and pin pointedly apprehended Osama Bin Ladin, the misery would have been minimal. But when USA tried to stay long in Afghanistan and control things from a highly fragile place, the task would always turn into an impossible one. Ironically, President Obama was expressing his willingness to review his policy for Afghanistan and Iraq but Jewish pressure made him go against his initial plans. The perpetual hatred propagated against him and exploiting his Islamic background by different Jewish Propagandists like Daniel Pipes, slowly showed the signs of pressure on the face of the new President. Obama is now completely caught in the impression that without Jewish help, he would not be able to save America from drowning. He needs Jewish money, investment and support to save Americans. But for that Jews are asking for more US blood, Wealth and Military Machinery to initiate any adventure against the Islamic states posing some threat to the existence of Israel.
Right now, it is extremely difficult for USA to go against the will of Jews who have maximum control over the economy of the lone superpower. America is now ready (unwillingly) to shed more blood and more bodies for the sake of Israel due to strong blackmailing and hidden fear of crashing down of Economic Structure of the USA. American People are cuffed, cramped, clinched and dragged into the hell of compound interest, bankruptcy, piled up loans, unpaid credit card bills and the list goes on. Common American is in the state of trauma. People are uncertain about their jobs and about the expected deterioration in the living standards. Even Mr. Obama is under immense pressure as he has no option but to accept every term and condition of Jewish community who for him seems to be the only source of help to at least delay the sinking of the Titanic of USA. The silent storm of boycott of US products and machinery by the Islamic world is visible when the giants like Caterpillar declare heavy layoffs. Dubai and the Middle East show the sorry picture for US Contractors who have got their dream projects shattered or even shelved completely. Every day News is coming on the breakfast table, which shocks the American people and make them psychologically slumped. The point is, when they will realize that they are grabbed completely in this detrimental situation which is making their intellects losing all the strength.
To my understanding, by the time Americans would be able to catch the root cause of the problems they are facing now, may be that moment would come when America would be drowned completely into the crisis. American people should realize that Germans, during Second World War, freed themselves and their economy from the claws of Jews and taught them lesson of the lifetime. German hatred against Jews was quite similar to what we would see in the days to come when American people would be running behind every Jew with a stone in their hands. The Propaganda Lobby of Jews is fully initiated to make Americans trapped in the fear of Islamic extremism and so called terrorism. The conspiring forces used the wealth and brains of Americans against Islam. For some people my words would look odd, but what I am telling is exactly what is written on the wall. If Americans would fail to realize the root cause of their problems, then their chapter would be sadly wrapped up. Israel is more like a cancer, which is dragging America near to a certain death. This cancer should be removed from the American body, otherwise it would be enough to make USA fall like domino.
Americans must open their eyes. They are unfortunately seeing every scream from sane people around the world as a joke. Everyone is screaming to save USA from the painful collapse. The scream is more like the one when somebody shouts to save you to step unwillingly to a deep ditch. Americans feel that Israeli democracy, so called liberal approach in living is identical to Americans. But mark my words, no American is religiously so committed, strong and agile as Jews are. Jews fully believe about the prophecies and the whole effort is now directed to welcome the Antichrist who is expected any moment. The stage is all set for him to appear. Many Americans would be laughing, but the truth is what is being stated here. Every next moment we are slipping to an era which would make us slap our face and we would curse ourselves that why didn\’t we wake up early, why we were not agile and why we ignored the warnings of those who were not the enemies but were sincere in helping us.
US should pull themselves out of the trap of Jews as soon as possible. The current example to follow is of France which has welcomed Islamic Economic Model to rescue their ailing Economy. The inauguartion of Qatar Islamic Bank in France and attracting more Islamic Banks to start their operation would soon build confidence of French People on Islamic Banking and would make them understand that Interest Free Banking System is the pillar for strong economic structure in the days to come.

Every day News is coming on the breakfast table, which shocks the American people and make them psychologically slumped. The point is, when they will realize that they are grabbed completely in this detrimental situation which is making their intellects losing all the strength.
To my understanding, by the time Americans would be able to catch the root cause of the problems they are facing now, may be that moment would come when America would be drowned completely into the crisis. American people should realize that Germans, during Second World War, freed themselves and their economy from the claws of Jews and taught them lesson of the lifetime. German hatred against Jews was quite similar to what we would see in the days to come when American people would be running behind every Jew with a stone in their hands. The Propaganda Lobby of Jews is fully initiated to make Americans trapped in the fear of Islamic extremism and so called terrorism. The conspiring forces used the wealth and brains of Americans against Islam. For some people my words would look odd, but what I am telling is exactly what is written on the wall. If Americans would fail to realize the root cause of their problems, then their chapter would be sadly wrapped up. Israel is more like a cancer, which is dragging America near to a certain death. This cancer should be removed from the American body, otherwise it would be enough to make USA fall like domino.
Americans must open their eyes. They are unfortunately seeing every scream from sane people around the world as a joke. Everyone is screaming to save USA from the painful collapse. The scream is more like the one when somebody shouts to save you to step unwillingly to a deep ditch. Americans feel that Israeli democracy, so called liberal approach in living is identical to Americans. But mark my words, no American is religiously so committed, strong and agile as Jews are. Jews fully believe about the prophecies and the whole effort is now directed to welcome the Antichrist who is expected any moment. The stage is all set for him to appear. Many Americans would be laughing, but the truth is what is being stated here. Every next moment we are slipping to an era which would make us slap our face and we would curse ourselves that why didn\’t we wake up early, why we were not agile and why we ignored the warnings of those who were not the enemies but were sincere in helping us.
US should pull themselves out of the trap of Jews as soon as possible. The current example to follow is of France which has welcomed Islamic Economic Model to rescue their ailing Economy. The inauguartion of Qatar Islamic Bank in France and attracting more Islamic Banks to start their operation would soon build confidence of French People on Islamic Banking and would make them understand that Interest Free Banking System is the pillar for strong economic structure in the days to come.
