Louis Tomlinson, The Courteeners and Aitch were among the winners at the inaugural Northern Music Awards, which organisers hope will become the "Brits of the North".

The event, held in Manchester on Tuesday, was set up to celebrate talent from across the north of England.

Former One Direction star Tomlinson, hailing from Doncaster, was named artist of the year - beating fellow South Yorkshire singer Self Esteem and Newcastle's Sam Fender.

The Courteeners - whose 2008 debut album finally reached number one in 2023 after being reissued - won band of the year.

The Courteeners frontman Liam Fray said it was "really exciting to be part of a really special night for the north".

He said there was space for an awards ceremony championing acts from places like Manchester. "We do feel like we do things differently," he told the BBC.

"I know it’s a bit of a cliché. I think everybody, whatever region you're from, feels a bit 'us and them'.

"It's more of a celebration. I think that's on everybody's mind - should you have to do your own [awards]? But yeah, why not?"

The event was organised by music therapy charity Nordoff and Robbins, which has staged the Silver Clef awards in London since 1976.

AFTER NEARLY TWO-HUNDRED live performances spanning two international tours, Louis Tomlinson is celebrating the end of era on the road that spanned three years. On Thursday, the musician shared Live, a record captured across 15 different shows in 15 different cities.

“I’ve been lucky enough to spend the last 3 years touring the world twice over, the feeling I get sharing those live moments will be with me forever,” Tomlinson shared in a statement. “To be able to record these songs from all over the world and put them out as an album like this feels so special, and a real tribute to the fans who make each and every show feel unique and incredible. Thank you! Enjoy!”

The album features live performances from both the Louis Tomlinson World Tour — which was cut short in 2020 and resumed in 2022 — and the Faith in the Future World Tour, which kicked off in 2023 in support of the singer’s sophomore studio album of the same name. Combined, the tours included 170 shows in 47 countries across 5 continents.

Tomlinson captured performances of popular singles “We Made It” and “Walls” from his debut solo album Walls and “Written All Over Your Face,” “Silver Tongues,” and “Out of My System” from Faith in the Future. The album features recordings from London, Nashville, Vancouver, Barcelona, Chicago, Budapest, Paris, and more.

The digital version of Live is available now, with physical editions for the record set for release on Aug. 23 on a double CD and 2LP picture disc vinyl.

Now that they've all settled down in their relationship dynamic, Zayn, Harry and Louis agree it's time for the next step. A new phase in their lives, so to speak. They're having a baby! Or well. That's the plan. As usual for the three of them, nothing goes as planned. Adjustments have to be made, emotions have to be lived through and discussed and all in all, our three boys need to buckle up for the ride and hope to reach their final destination without major figurative car crashes.

unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.

"Ever since that night at Niall's, you have barely been able to look me in the eye, and I hate it, Lou. You're my best friend and you've been avoiding me for absolutely no reason-" "I have a reason!" "What is it? Is it because I told you I love you? Because I tell everyone I love them, Louis, it's no big deal-" "It is a big deal, Harry. God, I've heard you tell Niall, Liam, Nick, even the postman that you love them. I've known you for ten years now and, since we presented, you stopped telling me that you loved me. You'd tell everyone else and I'd just get a pat on the back. So forgive me if I was a little taken aback by my drunk best friend telling me he loved me. Telling me that there's no one else like me and that he'd be lucky to have me as his omega. Only then to find out that he doesn't remember that last part. And for him to laugh it off like it didn't mean anything-" "It didn't mean anything..." "Well, it meant something to me."

“No, no it’s fine.” Louis rubs the back of his neck a little awkwardly. “I guess I’m just not used to hearing another alpha talking about taking a knot is all. You caught me off guard a bit, but I don’t mind.”

Harry’s look of embarrassment soon morphs into a smirk. “Not a lot of knot talk in the locker rooms then?”

Louis laughs. “Oh yeah there is. But it’s more like arguments over whose is bigger and that.” He schools his face into what he hopes is an over exaggerated self righteous expression. “But not me of course, because I’m proper evolved.”

Harry snorts out a laugh. “Of course you are.”

Louis can’t help but smile at Harry’s goofy grin. He’s never met anyone as open and honest as Harry is, and Louis finds himself endlessly fascinated by it.
