           “ hold on, fat. ”  laiya mumbled to her daughter who was struggling for the cup that was in her mother’s hands, before she could use the straw to give the child some of the sugary drink, she heard commotion behind her. she couldn’t turn around fast enough before she felt the heavy feeling of a fist against the back of her head, causing the petite woman to stumble and almost fall forward. “ what the fuck ! ” she yelled as she quickly whipped around to come face to face with the irate woman who quickly realized her mistake. a now enraged laiya, placed her daughter on the closest seat next to her and turned back to the woman, not thinking about the ramifications of her next set of actions. “ BITCH, YOU NEED TO WATCH WHERE-” were the last coherent words that came out of the tiny femme’s mouth before she began to wail on the mistaken woman. the sound of her fists colliding with the unknown’s face was only overshadowed by the surplus of curse words that fell from her tongue. despite the height difference, she had gained quite the grip on her hair and repeatedly slammed her fist into the girls mouth. after a few good seconds she released the offender from her grip and she took a step back. “ you better be glad you ain’t make me fall on my fuckin’ child. ” knowing that the video would be all over social media before she could even get home, she grabbed up her baby and exited the establishment hastily. @star-twist

         laiya entered the bowling alley with her daughter on her hip, she immediately stopped at the concession stand, getting a blue raspberry slush for she and the toddler to share. she then mentally scanned the area until she found a familiar face, making her way over to the lanes, she stopped just short of the lane and greeted the person before her. “ hey, you got a team already ? i haven’t bowled in years but i got a little cute cheerleader. ”

           ❱     𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐘𝐀 was reeling from the successful turn out for her popup shop. but despite the outgoing personality that she possessed, she was an eminently shy person and she despised public speaking. throughout the entire event, she allowed her social media coordinator to take the reigns of hosting the bigger event. however, she thrived in her private class sessions. now that there was only a few more minutes of the convention left, she felt that she needed to address everyone who came out to support her. grabbing the microphone close to the makeshift stage that had her logo on it, she commanded everyone’s attention before speaking. “ hey everybody ! i wanna thank you all for coming and supporting. me and my team spent countless nights trying to get this together, and i cried at least seventy-five times today alone, so i’m so happy that it all came together. my new laced babies that came into the classes, i hope you learned so much, and remember what i told y’all. don’t tell nobody else my secrets, na’. to everybody who came through and took a selfie with me, or just with our interactive selfie rooms make sure you tag us ! to my team that had to deal with my breakdowns and my models that lended your time and your beautiful faces ⸻ thank you a million times. don’t forget your swag bags, there’s some cool ass shit in there if i must say so myself. goodnight, everybody ! ”

tell the viewers who you are, what you’re known for, and what you do.

       “ hey guys, i’m laiya locke i am a hairstylist and entrepreneur. i’m known for lacing a lace or three, and also as the owner of 𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐘 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐈𝐎 and 𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐈𝐑. ” 

how long have you been in your career field?

       “ i started doing hair when i was twelve, i got my cosmetology license at sixteen. i opened my own salon at nineteen when i moved to atlanta and i started selling hair when i was twenty. so for a minute now, i be working ! ”

what’s some advice you’d give to someone trying to pursue your profession?

       “ first of all, get a license. no shade, i know a lot of girls who are calling themselves stylists and don’t have any professional training. you also have to practice and perfect your craft, doing hair is a talent, but it’s also an art. you can have it, but if you don’t learn new techniques you won’t go very far. the last thing is, be professional. ” 

at any point in your career did you ever feel like giving up and trying something new? why or why not.

       “ i wanted to quit when i moved to atlanta, it’s so many stylists out here that getting clients was hard at first, but thank god for social media, cause it would’ve been clipped. i would’ve been on onlyfans so quick. ” 

what are you most excited for at the convention?

      “ i just love supporting black businesses. so i’ll probably be around buying everything i see. ”

                    “ something along the lines of ‘i raised all four of my kids, i’m not raising another one.’ and i’m not using that lady, she be stealing my child ! ” after being let down off of his back, she assumed the seat closest to her, waiting on him to do the same. a loud smack of her teeth cut through his words as she shifted her round eyes at him simultaneously. “ i didn’t ask for shit, you volunteered it. you volunteer it every time. and you just blowing hot air because you don’t even own a rubber. miss me.” when he began to mock her pleasure stricken plea and her labored breathing, she took a quick glance around to see if he had gotten anyone’s attention before she reached over and slapped his arm. “ you so fuckin’ embarrassing. and why would you pick that as the one time you wanna listen to what the fuck i say ? lock in fa’ i tweak aht. ” laiya recited the popular tik tok sound in her thick southern accent; she was so use to the antics that harlan displayed that she couldn’t help but to laugh at him herself. “ i hate you, you know that ? never did like you. ” the statement was a call back to their relationship, or lack thereof from when they first met and they genuinely despised one another. reaching over, she took another one of his wings and dipped it in the ranch on her plate. she decided to abandon the earlier conversation as they would end up right back in the same place in the near future anyway. aligning her sights back with her ex-boyfriend, she gave him a timely onceover before speaking.  “ who did your twists ? you letting people play in your head now ? ”

            “ what i told you ? it’s baby with grandma so mommy can be outside all summer.  she came and picked her up early as hell. talkin’ ‘bout they goin’ to church. ” laiya loved getting under harlan’s skin in the smallest ways possible, she waved him off at the mention of her mother. “ you don’t get tired of being a rat, lovey ? she’ll believe you cause she loves you more than she loves me. ” she responded; rolling her eyes at the thought of the relationship he and her mother had; including him yelling on her often. “ carry me, anyway. i gotta tell you somethin’. ” in comparison to harlan, laiya was tiny, so it wasn’t unusual for her to utilize his height and strength to her advantage. waiting for him to kneel just a bit in front of her, she wrapped her arms around his neck and climbed onto his back, holding her plate in front of her as she held onto him with her free arm. “ the test was negative, not that yo’ ass was worried. i took seven of them, so ain’t no false positives. ”

              “ what’s even more wild ? i been thinkin’ about eating your wings all day too.” despite the fact that she was on her second go around with the food table, laiya grabbed a flat wing from harlan’s plate and immediately put it into her mouth. peering in the direction that he pointed in, she squinted her eyes to see if she knew any of the people before shrugging as he gave a direct order that was followed by the crowd of people without hesitance, she laughed at his abrasiveness and slowly shook her head. “ you are that skeptical of a nigga, but that shit does look suspicious. i’ma try it and you can carry me for the rest of the night twin, deal ? ”
