#i agree!!! #but it’s also important especially for the deceased people on the list to look at how they referred to themselves before giving them a label #freddie mercury identified as and referred to himself as gay #and I’m pretty sure at least later in his life Bowie identified as straight #and yeah you can say they both wrote songs about whatever but it’s important to keep in mind that #even if you want to analyze a song to have a connection to a musician’s life they’re often just...songs. with no hidden meaning #I mean considering Freddie Mercury said multiple times throughout his life that his songs have no meaning #and that they’re all just ‘musical jibberish’ (which he’s said in interviews) #I’d say it’s highly unlikely that Bicycle Race was about anything but. you know. bicycles #I say this as a bi person who’s favorite musician is Freddie Mercury and would love to have an orientation in common #but for deceased celebrities who we 1) cant ask about their orientation now and 2) lived during a time when labels were different #we should look at what they’ve directly said about it while they were alive #instead of trying to analyze their songs or works now that they’re dead #anyways i have a lot of thoughts on like. Mercury and Bowie and such. obviously.
