Elftober 2023 - Day 1 - Introduction
Lady Lissette Marjolie de Isedaire For many years, Lissette travelled across Eorzea and beyond as an adventurer. When news of the Dragonsong War coming to an end finally made its way to her, Lissette decided to settle back down in her childhood home for good. Today, she runs a tea shop called 'The Lavish Brew' and also serves as a representative of the Adventurers' Guild in the newly-established guild in the Firmament.
Roselle Colombet Greystone Having grown resentful of mistreatment from the family that never wanted her, Roselle eventually found comfort with the heretics. As a follower of Lady Iceheart, she served from the sidelines as a healer. However, as it was later revealed that she never put anyone in harm's way and on more than one occasion came to the aid of wounded knights in secret, she was pardoned for her affiliation. She was permitted back into the city once the war was over, and now, she serves as an alchemist in Ser Vaindreau's Grace.

Throwback Thursday!
I wanted to recreate the first screenshot I ever took of Lissette!
I don't remember exaaaactly when I took the screenshot, but I do know it was during Heavensward. Judging by the Diadem NPCs in the background, it's safe to say it was after 3.1. 😂
(Also, I'm not sure what on Earth is going on with the lighting in the original pic. I'm guessing younger me was heavy-handed with the brightness+contrast settings in GIMP)

Lord Grantioux de Isedaire & Lady Francinne de Durendaire-Friorre
Lissette's parents. Their tale began with their fathers, comrades-in-arms serving House Durendaire named Ser Owemont and Ser Armandaux. When Armandaux saved Owemont from what would have been a fatal blow from a formidable dragon, the two grew to become close friends afterward.
Life would eventually seperate them as they later retired from service to start families of their own. Many years had passed since they had last seen eachother, but when news had gone around that Ser Owemont was deathly ill, the two sought to see each other one last time.
It was then discovered that Owemont had a son named Grantioux who had yet to marry, and as one of Armandaux's daughters was recently made eligible for marriage, the arrangement was made then and there to strengthen the bond between their houses during Owemont's final moments.
Now, nearly thirty-five years later, Grantioux and Francinne are the parents of five talented (but somewhat chaotic) children. Martisoix, Lissette, Marienne, Gerivaux, and Annette.

Like some of the others in his family, Gerivaux found joy in sitting down in a comfortable spot somewhere to read a nice book every now and then. ...At least, he enjoyed doing it when said book was entirely unrelated to his studies. Spending a portion of his life poring over the Seventy-two Articles of Halonic Polity made just about any other piece of literature he read feel like a long-deserved break. When he wasn’t carrying out his responsibilities as a seminarian, Gerivaux would sometimes make quick trips to the local library to browse some of their selections of tomes. If something caught his attention and he surmised that it wouldn’t leave him dreadfully bored, he would check it out and bring it home. However, Gerivaux wasn’t the greatest of keeping track of his belongings – let alone things that he borrows for a period of time. This doubled for borrowing books. It was commonplace within the Isedaire household that he would end up misplacing a tome or two for one reason or another. He would be quick to enlist one of his sisters to help him relocate whatever was lost – usually kicked far underneath his bed where no one could reach it, or sometimes in a different part of the house entirely. Occasionally, the book would simply disappear from existence and poor Gerivaux would be left with a sizable fee to replace it. And boy, did those fees add up quickly.

“Did you see what that Junelle wore to the opera, Baylie? I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing that.” Marienne scoffed as she took a quick sip from her cup of tea. “Her family makes nearly double the amount of money than mine does, yet she dresses as though she picks out her clothing in the dark!” Seated next to her on the sofa, the other Elezen woman nodded in agreement. “Who is to say that she doesn’t? While her clothes are high quality, her choice of colour matching…” “It looks dreadful.” Marienne finished Baylie’s sentence for her. “And that fiance of hers...Has anyone told him that his shoes look entirely too large for his feet? I’m afraid that he’s going to fall one day and break his neck.” While Baylie did let out a small snort, she reached over and gently placed a hand on her friend’s shoulder. “Someone’s on a bit of a mean streak today. Is everything alright, Marie?” Marienne pursed her lips together for a moment, though she nodded her head and dismissively waved her hand. “I’m fine, truly! I just don’t get the opportunity to gossip anymore. Why, it’s been weeks since you’ve been able to visit me, hasn’t it?” “I have been busy as of late. I suppose that’s a part of growing older – less time to ourselves to do as we please.” Baylie mused as she leaned down to partake in her own cup of tea. "I was simply showing some concern is all." “My sisters are also dreadfully boring to talk to...and Halone forbid that I gossip in front of my students – they’d go off to tell anyone and everyone who’d listen! And if our conversation reaches Lady I-Think-I'm-Better-Than-Everyone, we'd be done for.” “Understandable,” Baylie answered once more, taking a quick sip of her tea. In an attempt to change the mood, she switched the conversation back to their previous topic. “...You are right about Lord Bretiel’s shoes, though. I feel as though he’d be able to kick me in the shin from over a film away at times.” “O’ Halone…” Marienne lowered her head downward in prayer. “I, Marienne de Isedaire, Your humble servant, request that you please watch over Lord Bretiel and his two-fulm-long loafers. And please show Lady Junelle how to coordinate colours to save her from further embarrassing herself.” Try as she did to contain herself, the other Elezen immediately burst with laughter. “M-Marienne, you’re wicked!”

Once Bitten, Twice Shy
Tumblr media
While she mainly operates within Coerthas these days, Lissette was usually more than willing to take on any tasks that the Adventurers’ Guild deemed appropriate to throw her way.  Sometimes, these tasks were highly mundane – chores that the citizens of Ishgard either had no time to do or simply couldn’t be bothered to do. Parcel deliveries from Point A to Point B, cleaning up Chocobo stables, or sometimes just shovelling snow out of their yards.  Occasionally, they were a bit more challenging – usually in the form of felling a large creature that threatened the local trade routes or nearby camps and settlements. Growing accustomed to more difficult tasks took years of trial and error, but Lissette complains very little about carrying them out to completion. After all, her creed as an adventurer is to help those in need, no matter how simple or difficult.
There is one type of job that she is always hesitant to do, however, even if the gil payout is simply too good for one to refuse. Escorting. It was simple enough – ensuring that a group of traders or travellers were left unharmed as they moved from one location to another. It’s one of the most common tasks that most adventurers find themselves doing at one point during their careers. But ever since her very first escort guildleve went horribly wrong, it more or less takes twisting Lissette’s arm for her to agree to do them. It was years ago – back when Lissette first started taking her first steps into being an adventurer. She was inexperienced, both in travel and combat capabilities and still had yet to register herself with the guild. After meeting a group of merchants at a tavern, she immediately agreed to serve as a guard as they travelled from Hyrstmill to Fallgourd Float. Things started off well at first! The local Skywatcher declared clear skies for the day and they were able to get themselves on the road for roughly an hour without issue. However, they hit a large bump in the road and found themselves with a broken wagon wheel. After discovering that they failed to bring a replacement wheel, Lissette volunteered to make a quick run to a stable they passed by not too long ago, and off she went. However, upon her return less than twenty minutes later with a new wheel in tow, she discovered that the merchants were nowhere to be seen and the wagon was completely wrecked. Only several yalms away was a massive Treant, slowly hobbling its way back into the woods. It took a very long time for Lissette to get over the incident – and while years have gone by and she has gained much more experience and knowledge since then, taking up escort leves still brings up memories of that day. She’ll still do it, but she’ll do everything within her power to prevent anything from going wrong.

Ser Martisoix, you say? It’s been years since I heard that name...May the Fury watch over him. We were both squires long ago under the guidance of Ser Archimbault. I recall how skittish he was when he first moved into the barracks. He never stopped talking about his family – his parents, his sisters and brother...I felt as though I was well-acquainted with House Isedaire even though I had never met them! I suppose it was his way of comforting himself. Owl’s Nest was a good trek outside of the city.
Martisoix was a damned good swordsman, too. He must have been holding a blade from the very moment he was brought into the world! I bet his entry tournament was a breeze – I wouldn’t wanna be on the opposite side of the arena with that guy. I nearly ended up with a broken arm from my own bouts! I always assumed that he would be scouted by the Knights Dragoon one day. They’re always looking for exceptional folks, y’know? I never saw him sporting the maille, so I guess he was content with being another rank-and-file soldier. Throughout our squireship, we went on a handful of missions together ranging from simple city patrols to sometimes being in the frontlines. Time marched onward by a few years, and we both got knighted and assigned to different platoons. Never saw Martisoix again since then. I’ve heard bits and pieces of gossip through the mess hall that he was a decent leader. Strict to the squires, but fair. He always put his comrades in arms before himself. ...But I guess that’s what led to him being sent to Halone’s halls much too soon. It didn’t take long at all for word to spread around of that failed mission. I would imagine that his family took the news quite hard. You were a great knight, Ser Martisoix. Perhaps I should make a quick visit to your grave one day...

*knock, knock, knock* “Come in!” Seated in front of her vanity, Annette welcomed Marienne into her bedroom with a warm smile. “Oh good, it’s you! I was hoping it’d be you.” She clasped her hands together as she lifted herself up from her seat to greet her sister properly with a bow. “That...certainly doesn’t sound suspicious,” the older Isedaire replied as she closed the door behind her. She bowed back down to her sister before making her way across the room to take a seat on her bed. “I know you sent for me, but what if it was someone else who came? Gerivaux? Lissette? One of the maids?”
“In that case, I wouldn’t be able to introduce them to my new friend.” Annette huffed. “New friend?” Marienne canted her head to the side. Annette quickly disappeared into her walk-in closet. After a minute of shuffling things around inside, the girl emerged from the closet with a brown rabbit clutched securely in her arms. Marienne’s jaw dropped. “A rabbit!” she exclaimed, looking back and forth between Annette and the small creature. “Mother is going to have your head if she sees you with that!” Annette quickly pressed a finger to her lips. “Shhh!!” Marienne rolled her eyes and lowered her voice to a loud whisper. “Annette, you can’t just sneak animals int–” “I got her for free!” the younger sibling interrupted, shaking her head. “She would have been tossed in a stewpot otherwise...or fed to a scalekin! I saved her life! You mustn’t tell anyone he’s here, Sister, not yet!” “Annette…” Marienne let out a sigh and folded her arms across her chest. “You can’t just keep an animal in your room all the time. What if it sheds and ruins your nice dresses? Or leaves droppings everywhere? Your room will stink and the maids will most certainly notice.” “But...B-But!” Annette’s shoulders slumped downward, but her eyes still showed a glimmer of hopefulness. “I-I already set up the hutch in my closet. Nobody goes in there but me...a-and I’ve been doing a wonderful job at keeping it clean!” Marienne, only a tad sceptical of her younger sister’s words, took another moment to examine the rabbit more closely. From the outside, it didn’t appear to be showing any signs of protest at being held by Annette – nor showed any sort of distress. If the poor thing was squirming and kicking around in her arms, it’d be another story, but the rabbit looked as though it was about to fall asleep at any moment. With a sigh, the woman lifted herself up from Annette’s bed and lightly patted her companion on the head with a finger. “You’ll have to tell everyone else sooner or later.” “I know...I just need some time! I’ll do it soon – I promise!” “Good.” Marienne smiled, giving the rabbit one last pat before she started making her way to the door. “Perhaps we can ‘borrow’ some of the hay that Lissie uses for her chocobo to give it some better temporary bedding...or perhaps for it to be used as a snack while we procure a better food source.” Excited by her sister’s support, Annette vigorously nodded her head. “O-Of course! We’re going to need lots of greens too!”

I got my new character into Heavensward last night! Meet Roselle Greystone, an alchemist (and dragonet mom?) who was one of Ysayle's supporters. Her story's still a WIP but yeee! \o/

There is no direct difference between past and present tense in dragonspeak due to how dragons view time and causality. They believe that the present is a culmination of past actions, making them one and the same. It proves efficient for millennia-old beings.

Noisome
Tumblr media
As a mother of five, it is my duty to offer as much support as I can to each and every one of my children and the lives that they lead as they grow older. However, while I’ve the patience of a saint, I must confess that there are times when I feel that I must put my foot down once and for all.  Today would be a perfect example of some of the things I endure in this house.
Since her return, my husband and I have looked the other way in regards to Lissette’s choice of career. We were never really certain of what being an ‘adventurer’ entailed, and in truth, we were under the impression that they were none else but brutish sellswords. I would like to believe that I did my very best in ensuring that Lissette grew up to be a modest, elegant Lady of status. I never envisioned her to be one who loiters in alleyways or causes fights in taverns while accumulating large amounts of debt. A wave of relief washed over me when her explanation for her profession was simply ‘I help those in need’. But after she returned home this evening smelling as though someone had rolled around in a heap of Chocobo droppings mixed with rotten eggs and left to sit outside for a moon, perhaps I have failed in my duty as a mother after all. When questioning her, she explained that she was teaching fledgling adventurers at the ‘guild’ how to avoid morbol breath and had unfortunately gotten hit in the process. And then...And then she had the very nerve to track – whatever it was that was stuck to the bottom of her boots, through the foyer as she retired to her bedchambers. The poor maids have been scrubbing the woodwork for nearly a bell and the stains still won’t lift. Was she skipping and making merry in the Aurum Vale itself? What of her underlings? Surely they couldn’t have made it out of the place clean. I cannot imagine how Lissette plans to rid herself of the stench coming from her armour, or how many baths she must take until she smells somewhat decent again. Mayhap I should quickly purchase a shipment of perfumes to mask the stench. Despite all of this, I didn’t have the heart to punish her for making a mess (or making herself a mess?), but I’m relieved that she’s unharmed...and that her father wasn’t present to witness this event. Either way, I must find a way to rid our home of the odour...and quickly. O' Halone, why couldn't she have just stuck to maintaining the shop...?
