So, uh...some dude in my city was drinking and using LSD with his girlfriend, who happens to be a med student, and he woke up at the beach with amnesia and...his abdomen open and part of his small intestine precisely removed without any major blood vessels cut, and apparently his girlfriend is from my medschool and already out of the country and hmm...

Wasn't really planning on responding to uh this post but now i'm angry! to clarify i am a hindu. probably not the best one out there but praying does bring me comfort. i don't know all the gods or the myths and i don't particularly like going to temples but my religion has been a source of comfort to me.

and that's because i know what its like to see people violently assert caste and religious identities. i come from a very sensitive area in coastal karnataka. we're in the news for all the wrong things.

1. moral policing. to the point where friends cannot walk together for the fear of being attacked.

2. prayer meetings have been disrupted and attacked over suspicions of conversion on social media.

3. slurs are thrown very freely

4. girls in a few schools were banned from wearing their hijabs to school.

5. couples have been sent death threats and normal friends even have been issued warnings over fears of 'love jihad'.

6. vendors from other faiths have been warned not to put up stalls in temple functions with warnings of violence being given.

the reason I made that post was that I was angry over the portrayal of India and Indian-ness in desi blogs. the romanticization of UC aesthetics and Islamic culture but the refusal to understand the politics these identities have in India. @chaoticaindica stood out because of their selective portrayal of hindu culture and customs. you cry over the mistreatment of brahmins but refuse to understand the long history that supports their suspicion of them. everyone is not born a brahmin and you might comfort yourself with talk of how castes decide your profession but you and I both know this isn't the case. marginalized castes are to this day humiliated and even killed for the assertion of their identity. there have been cases of dalit people killed for things such as eating with others, touching holy books, entering temples and marrying outside of their caste.

brahmins are entrusted with education and educating others. but who has the benefit of accessing such education. the gurukul system was not equal. even today caste discrimination exists in educational institutions. we both know what professions are assigned to marginalized castes. look up facts on manhole deaths, bar dancers and other "dirty" professions. your cries of brahmins and other UC cultures being attacked are pathetic.
