Gemstones Halloween hcs:

- The family didn’t start celebrating the holiday until the mid-80s. Both Eli and Aimee-Leigh had those specific Christian upbringings that were wary of the holiday, and Aimee-Leigh stayed wary of it all her life.

-The first time the family celebrated, it was because the church decided to run a pseudo-Halloween harvest festival type event, which was highly controversial. Aimee-Leigh didn’t want to participate in it but Eli saw it as an opportunity to get publicity, present themselves to outsiders and create a holiday spectacle.

- The kids would usually dress as movie characters. They started out doing matching costumes, when Aimee-Leigh had control over their outfits. She’d dress them as non-scary things like clowns. Judy was the first to break away from the family costume because she wanted to dress as a diva popstar. Kelvin would usually try to imitate or match Jesse’s costumes, especially when he was younger.

-When X-Men (2000) came out, the family did a matching costume. It helped bridge the gap between the siblings, since there was something for everyone. Jesse and Judy had grown up with the cartoons, while Kelvin had seen the movie, played the arcade games and might have read some comics. This would be Amber’s first family costume, and even though she didn’t know anything about the X-Men, she went as Jean Grey because of her hair. Jesse and Kelvin would fight over who got to be Wolverine, and Judy would clip on a strand of white hair and go as Rogue, quietly relating to that angsty girl who feels like no one would want to touch her or be close to her like in the movie.

-No scary decorations in the main house, but Jesse and Judy would hide some freaky decorations to scare Kelvin and each other. Maybe one of those freaky guys you hide under the toilet seat. Jesse and Judy would also absolutely shake down Kelvin for Halloween candy once they got to the age where they weren’t allowed to go. They’d insist that siblings always get a cut, everyone knows that.

-Halloween was the first night BJ snuck onto the compound. He dressed like a security guard and came in through one of Judy’s windows. They do Halloween freaky and gross every year, but that first year, they put on a crazy slasher and didn’t watch a second of it.

-For youth group, Kelvin and Keefe instituted a hell house, which, for the uninitiated, is a haunted house themed around showcasing different sinners in hell, being punished for their various sins. Please give these a Google if you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s very on brand.

-Both Eli and Jesse as kids got into trouble as kids on both Halloween and Devil’s Night for smashing pumpkins, scaring younger kids and being little menaces. They try now to encourage their kids to be friendlier during the holiday

-Amber had her, Jesse and the kids dress up as really tame, sweet things growing up, like famous bands and Disney characters. As they got older, Gideon discovered some of his dad’s old action movie hero costumes, and secretly thought they were awesome.

-Pontius was that little boy you see one of every year who wears a scream mask and tries to scare his classmates.

-Judy and BJ consistently pick grotesque couples costumes, characters from movies who aren’t and shouldn’t date in canon, sexy versions of kids movie characters etc

-Keefe gets really weird about Halloween because while he dresses like it’s Halloween every day, he doesn’t know what the appropriate response is to seeing ‘satanic’ imagery around the neighborhood, and even in the church

-Eli rarely dressed up except for church events, but always enjoyed some old-fashioned types of chocolate bars around the holiday

-All of the Gemstone kids absolutely dress up as adults, and get way too into the holiday, but do a more Christ-centric version of it at work

There's a little boy who gives tea to the journalists and thanks them for spreading their stories.

He's displaced at the hospital, his home is gone.

A kid was asked what he wants to be when he grows up and he said kids in Gaza don't grow up.

Kids are writing their names on their arms so they can be identified.

Momin Kireka is a Palestinian journalist who was disabled by an Israeli attack in 2008.

And despite the difficulty in moving around, he vows to continue to show the world the truth.

Awni, a young Palestinian boy has a gaming YouTube channel he loved so much.

He was killed in the bombing.

Mohammed Sami was an artist who's dream was to open an art gallery.

He was playing with the kids to raise their spirits. And the next day he was killed.

They are victims.

They are going through unimaginable horrors and still find it in their hearts to be kind.

They have hopes and dreams just like you and I.

They are people.

And they deserve to be recognised and known as such.

#Judy wins on the racecar look alone but if some of Jesse’s better church suits were here he’d be a strong competitor #kelvin has some winners but there are a few fits to bad he’s automatically removed from consideration #Judy winning this without her little beach cape being here…she really was chosen by god #let’s be real though they’re all getting schooled by their partners #amber miiiight be the best dressed character I mean her country western lissons hang fit alone… #and Keefe’s fits destroy kelvin’s every time #bj less so but the pickleball couture is unforgettable #the righteous gemstones #justice for Jesse though he does have some gems
