curiousity and traces of puzzlement crosses over her features at the woman’s words. they are from different times, of the same world and yet, in many ways, they are not. perhaps, they are both out of their time now. and upon an unfamiliar planet. EQUAL footing after all. still, it’s difficult to comprehend. this woman standing before her is an ANCIENT in her mind, an ancestor. yet, here she is. living and breathing the same air. “ tell me, what was it like? ” she inquires. what was the earth like before the world burned the first time. before it was ruined by war. strange how history is doomed to repeat itself. she remembers reading such a thing in a book once. never has it seemed more TRUE. but it isn’t the war she wants to think of now. but the beauty of society before it was destroyed. she used to look up at the tower in polis and wonder how it appeared in its prime. was the building full of importance then too? or was it one among DAUNTING structures, reaching for the skies. so many questions and niylah feels like some young girl again, brimming with nothing but curiousity and wonder.

niylah made peace with life a long time ago. she certainly doesn’t take skrish lying down. but i also think she has faith, and simply trusts the natural order of things. when praimfaya was impending, she of course didn’t want to die. but she was also content with whatever fate she was dealt. she was calm through it all, even hesitant to take a spot in the bunker when clarke offered. a day at a time. in some ways, she was referring to her friendship with clarke, simply taking comfort within each other. but, it also is how she lives in all ways of life. she knows life is a precious thing that can be snuffed out so quickly. she would rather live in each moment and savor what she has, than compromise who she is in a desperation to survive.
