"You, too," she replied with a grin. It was always nice when she met strangers who were pleasant. It reminded her that through all of the pain and the fear and the crap that could come with living in Beacon Hills, there was still something good to come of it sometimes. "Certainly! I would love to guide you to the mac and cheese. I personally don't eat it, but my dad eats it on those 'fend for yourself' nights at our house, so we keep the house stocked with some of it," she replied with a grin. The grocery store she'd frequented when they'd first moved here had changed the set up in the time they'd been away, but she was reasonably confident in her knowledge of the new arrangement.

Kira nodded. “Ah, yes. Those can happen sometimes. Well, I hope he doesn’t give you an unbearable amount of trouble,” she told her with a friendly smile. She was glad that nothing seemed to be horribly awry in this woman’s life. She always felt awkward in situations where it seemed obvious that something was wrong, yet she couldn’t really do anything to help. It was hardly her business to get involved in the affairs of strangers, but she felt like since there wasn’t any major conflict going on in her own life at the moment, she had reason to help out in other lives that did have conflicts.
But enough of that line of thinking. Clearly this woman was fine. “Not at all! I’m actually super impressed with myself that I didn’t fall over entirely. It’s got to be some kind of miracle, though,” Kira said with a chuckle. She then nodded. “I do, and it’s nice to meet you, too. I’m Kira.”

"You lived in Japan? That's so cool!" Kira said with a smile. She'd visited with her parents due to her mother's heritage, but she would love to go again if she could ever afford it. It had been really interesting to see a different side of her mom when they'd went. She hadn't noticed it as much as a child as she had when they went again in her teen years, but those vacations were one of many happy memories she had with her parents.
You Look Like You Could Use A Joke.
Kira bit her lip. It was hard to remain idealistic and positive about the world what with all of the crappy things that were happening on it. Still, she was going to try. “Yeah, I got lucky,” she said with a small sigh before perking up a little bit at his smile, listening to his explanation. “Oh, I wish I had a dog. Or a cat. I mean, it’s kind of hard to pick just one, you know? People declare themselves a Cat Person or a Dog Person, meanwhile I’m thinking about how adorable every dog and cat I have ever encountered in my life is,” she said, although she stored the bit of information in her head so she could pass it along to her friends who did have pets.

“Well, I’m improbably biased toward love. I don’t honestly think that anyone can hold their kid and not love them. Maybe that’s just because I got the most loving parents possible,” she replied, smiling at the thought of her mom and dad. They had always been there for her. She squinted a little in confusion as his hand goes up to her hair before inspecting the little plant. “That’s for me to know,” she said, although in all honesty she had no idea where it had come from. Perhaps she just wanted to preserve an air of mystery.

“You’ve seriously missed the pack war going on?” she asked the stranger dubiously before she shook her head. “I’m sorry, that was rude. It’s just... There’s been major damage, it’s hard to feel really safe anywhere.” She’d been wearing her sword belt on the daily. It had been too long since she’d felt secure enough to just wear a dress. Not that she was affiliated with a pack, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

“I’m totally clueless…what exactly has been happening around in Beacon Hills while I’ve gone into my own little world for awhile?”

“That’s so good to hear. There’s always those people who only have kids to strengthen themselves, and I’m glad you’re not one of them.” Kids were kids. They shouldn’t have all these expectations foisted upon them. That wasn’t always how life worked, though. She knew she was lucky to have the unburdened childhood she’d had.

“Oh, no. I wouldn’t want my loved ones to linger by my grave all sadly. I mean, can you imagine how depressing? No, I think they should plant a tree or something,” she replied before pausing to think. “I feel like that was more of a sarcastic reply than a genuine hope,” she said. Sheesh, she was digging herself into an even bigger hole. Luckily this situation was all low stress and not a serious conversation. She could afford to let too much of her actual personality show because what were the odds she’d ever even talk to him again? “That’s cool, though, puns aren’t everyone’s things. What’s the difference between a dirty bus stop and a large-breasted crab?” This way she wasn’t foisting her joke upon him. He had to take part in it to find out.
You Look Like You Could Use A Joke.
Derek knew his neutral facial expression wasn’t one that depicted excitement or even happiness, but he didn’t think he looked serious enough to need a bad joke. And why would puns even help his mood? Who laughed at those other than little children? Half the time, they weren’t even clever, just dumb. The brunette was strange, maybe not crazy but definitely strange. When she tried to defend puns and then proceeded to make another one, the Alpha couldn’t help himself, rolling his eyes. “I hope you are not expecting many visitors then.” Maybe her family actually liked her puns, though the idea that there were more of her was a bit unsettling.

Kira threw her hands up at his next question. “I don’t know! I guess wanting to help conflicted with not doing something totally weird, and wanting to try to help won out,” she said with a shrug before sighing in mild relief as he accepted her apology. Maybe with that he’d also agree to never mention this disaster of an encounter ever again. Then again, he was a random stranger. She’d probably never be in a common situation with him again, anyway. Whatever the reason, she couldn’t say she’d mind this never being brought up again. She wasn’t one who was totally insistent on keeping her pride intact. She was okay with making a fool of herself every once in a while. But she also liked not being totally embarrassed like she was now. “Puns are wonderful. It’s not my fault people don’t appreciate them as they should. In fact, I hope to have ‘Not appreciating my puns while I was alive was a grave mistake’ inscribed on my tombstone,” she cracked, not being able to stop herself.
You Look Like You Could Use A Joke.
Derek stared at the girl with an arched eyebrow, still not understanding what her deal was. Either people were getting weirder and weirder in Beacon Hills, or Derek was really starting to detach from the young generation. “Why would approaching a complete stranger and telling them a bad joke seem like a good idea?” He noted the pink color of her cheeks, assuming the girl was embarrassed about the situation, concluding she was at least not as crazy as she’d seemed in the beginning. When she apologized for interrupting his day, Derek nodded, the deadpan expression still over his face. “Apology accepted,” he said, placing the documents he’d been reading before she appeared on the table. “Next time, maybe don’t use a pun joke–people don’t really like those.”

“I’m fine, a little flustered by an incompetent roommate, but I’ll deal with him later.” Laura smiled at the younger girl, finding herself walking down the same aisle as her, making a mental note that she had been tasked with finding macaroni cheese and dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets for dinner that evening. Her young charge wasn’t spoilt by any stretch of the imagination, but Laura still wanted to make sure he got what he wanted.
“Are you sure you’re okay? Not even a hurt pride?” Laura chuckled slightly at that though, holding out her hand for Kira to shake at least. “It’s nice to meet you though, and nice to see someone who takes an interest in others. Do you live here in Beacon Hills?”

“Well, thank you. I think it has more to do with you being right here and having this little blankie thing on my side, but still. I’m glad I can hold this small, small bundle of joy because she’s adorable and babies make me happy, but especially this one,” she told her friend with a grin. She shifted Victoria in her arms just slightly so she had a better hold of her. The last thing she wanted was to drop her, even the thought made her alarmed.
Kira nodded. That was usually how it worked for omegas, and it sucked that it had worked out that way for Allison. Allison, whom she’d always remembered as so independent. In the year she’d known her before their eyes turned, she’d never thought that she’d be an omega. And while of course Kira didn’t think anything less of her for that, she couldn’t imagine what it would be like to live under that kind of stigma.
“Well, I hope it works out for you. And I’m also gonna add the ‘if you ever need a babysitter and I don’t have plans’ spiel,” Kira replied with a grin although she wasn’t sure if the Alpha would allow that. Hopefully Allison had gotten herself a contract with an Alpha who was willing to treat her fairly.
Tumblr media
“I really think she likes you.” Allison smiled, walking over to a bench, and motioning for Kira to follow. “You’re good at this.” She nodded, encouragingly. Seeing her daughter as content as she was reminded Allison that she was doing a good job, despite the complicated circumstances she was trying to raise her in.
“We’re living with my… Alpha at the moment.” Allison looked down, finding the topic awkward all of a sudden. “But… hopefully once my contract with him is over, we can find somewhere more permanent to live.”

“She’s so precious, Allison. I just can’t,” Kira said, totally enamored with the small baby in her arms. “Hi,” she told Victoria in a soft, baby talking voice. She supported her with both arms, shifting her weight from foot as she held the baby. She knew that she wanted this some day, and she knew that as a beta woman her best bet for a kid of her own would be to be with a beta guy since she knew no alpha would be interested in her.
Still, she was improbably biased toward love, no matter who it might be that she’d fall in love with. For now, she was perfectly happy falling for this little girl in her arms. She was entirely too adorable.
Tumblr media
Allison pulled her comforter from the baby bag, and placed it on Kira’s shoulder. She hadn’t tried this before, but it made sense that if Allison’s scent was close, she wouldn’t get as upset. Afterwards, she carefully handed the baby over to Kira, keeping a hold until the other girl had her securely.
“No screaming yet, so I think I’ve either found a solution, or she’s fallen in love with you already.” Allison teased, smiling at the two.
