hi sue. what do i do when i feel like im living a life im not supposed to? like the life im supposed to be living, the one i crave to, is so far out of reach. how do i push away the feeling of envy, especially when i see people around me living the lives they want; the one i want too?
This may not be the answer you’re looking for, and it certainly may not be the correct one but I’ve come to the thought that when we have a persistent feeling, one that won’t go away, it isn’t helpful to push that feeling down.
You feel this way for a reason! Listen to it! Envy is rarely about what other people have, and more about what you feel you lack.
Sometimes that feeling can change with renewed perspective. Give yourself more credit - you’ve worked for where you are and the life you have! Don’t take it, or yourself, for granted.
Sometimes, you need to couple that perspective with action. Ruminating in envy is paralysing and totalising. The more you do it, the more you become convinced that it is impossible to break out and live how you want to. Actually, the barriers are often not as high as they might feel. Start by doing something small to get you closer to where you want to be :)
