October 24th, 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of Gargoyles!!! A severely underrated show that deserves a reboot and/or full length feature film. This show not only has amazing writing, engaging characters (with phenomenal voice actors), and beautiful animation but it also has one of the best interspecies romance stories! Happy Gargoyle Day!
Amazing art done by the lovely and talented @galacticproblems (seriously go commission her she's a delight and absolute sweetie)

I wish they'd at least put a warning on Dashingdon but yeah rule of thumb never save your game after going into the stats page OR save in slot 0. Both will corrupt your save files. Also try not to save multiple times in a row, this can corrupt all of your files though not always.
I never knew those other two. I've managed to use save slot 0 safely, but presumably that's just lucky. Thanks for the tips, anon. :)

I think it's also notable that her expectations for marriage is "the stenography and typing skills I'm cultivating will be useful for work!" instead of more typical housewife skills and having children immediately. It's 1897 and she can't have a career while married, but she's trying to juggle both.
She wants a partnership with Jonathan as her top priority!
Exactly! This is a noteworthy detail that really establishes a lot of Mina's characteristics for the whole novel.
Mina wants to marry Jonathan, she loves him with all of her heart, but her priorities in this future marriage are quite different from one may expect from a lady of that time.
Instead of writing to Lucy about the transition from schoolmistress to housewife, Mina talks about typewrites and shorthand, and training herself like lady journalists (👀), so she can become adept in basically documenting information (👀!!!!).
Why is Mina doing all of this? Because she intends to work alongside Jonathan in his solicitor job. Since lawyering is a profession with a lot of paperwork, then Mina decides to cultivate similar skills as much as she can in order to take charge of that part of the job.
It's incredible how, while she is sad for leaving her current job, Mina isn't lamenting that she can't work because she is (correctly) expecting to work with Jonathan. Housewife skills, home care, and children are last things in her mind. Mina is ready for marriage life, and all of the stuff that comes when you, and your spouse are working in the same space.

Initial characterization notes for Mina Murray, May 9th
She makes multiple references to working hard, both as an excuse and as a point of pride [character trait: diligence]
She is professionally employed [thematic note: the assistant/master dichotomy. She is both a master of students and an assistant to somebody else, she can both lead and serve]
She is looking forward to her vacation - she is not all work and no play
"where we can talk freely" - her talking here is not free. She has other duties and obligations that override her desires
She is keeping up with Jonathan's studies. She knows everything he knows or at least is literate in the same legal matters. We can mark her down as intelligent and well-educated
Note also this is framed as co-equal "keeping up," learning in her own right, not just as helping him study. She says she wants to keep up. This is something that is clearly important to her, because she has been working hard on it
She has been practicing shorthand. Not only learning but going through the extra effort of practicing [character trait: self-improvement]
She wants to be useful to Jonathan. Three things here. (a) she values acts of service (b) she is practical / application focused (c) she justifies her own activities/interests by placing them into a broader framework
She fully intends to participate in the law practice and has clear ideas about how to do so
She thinks her participation will be based on being "good enough" [character trait: perfectionism, possibly driven by insecurity]
She thinks about information, how it is produced and stored, and how text types relate to each other (dictation to stenography to typed transcripts) [thematic aside: it's about the DOCUMENTS]
She is also practicing typewriter skills (Mina honey...)
They sometimes write letters in shorthand [character trait: NERRRRRDS]. That is, this isn't just a useful skill, they also enjoy it
She knows about his diary (kept in shorthand) and what it's for [character trait: good communication / being on the same page]
Has opinions on diaries. [Character trait: practical. Character trait: willing to complain, at least privately]
Doesn't like being hemmed in by artificial constraints - she values being able to "write whenever I feel inclined" [character trait: preference for self-determination]
Considers practical applications of what she's doing. Specifically, considers who is going to be reading documents a significant part of the creation of documents.
She may show her diary to Jonathan some day. She neither particularly requires the contents to be private but neither does she assume they won't or mustn't be.
Imitative of other female professionals
Deliberately attempting to improve her own mental acuity
"I am told that... however, we shall see" Just as we have seen with Jonathan, she is careful about the reliability of received information, and plans to test it herself
"I will tell you of my little plans" - she likes to make plans, and she likes to talk about them
She also likes to listen to other people - she wants both Jonathan's news and Lucy's
She is interested in foreign lands, but even more in doing things together (more themes of partnership and communication)
Immediately clarifies potentially ambiguous wording - careful about her language use
Stops precisely on the hour. Regimented.
Your loving. L O V I N G
