MAGAZINE IDEA’S...HOW TO PRESENT MY WORK AND SEND OFF TO SELF PROMOTE
As I had developed and obtained a good body of work I had done over the academic year, I was in between creating a little book or having 3 or more large prints on a canvas to demonstrate my work and presentation skills. I thought the canvas would be an ideal idea for my exhibition in June however, I wanted to self promote my work too, in which were more possible if I were to create a little book and send out to my favourite photographers i.e.: Craig McDean, Nick Knight etc. This way I could be noticed and hopefully get recognition in return. So with that I worked towards creating a little book based upon my recent fashion and portraiture work to showcase my capabilities and creativity. With this in mind, I had to think about the styles and presentation of how I wanted my book to look. I had researched on different page layouts and formats (examples shown above of the work from Juergen Teller, Wolfgang Tillmans and David Simms). I had used In Design to play around with different ideas, formats and fonts to see which style worked best with my work. I then had decided to follow the route of Juergen’s book layout because his format worked well with his fashion based images and because my work were the same theme it worked well too.

Topshop’s ad with Cara Delevingne didn’t capture her in a whole outfit which made me feel that for my ‘fake Topshop ad’ it’ll be acceptable to approach the ad in a similar way...
By only showing the top of the model it’ll make consumers want to go online or inshore to see it full

Fake H&M Ad
With these fake advertisments I have created, I plan to put them on my Instagram page and tag the brands, in which can be reposted onto their page and credit myself for the work. This is a modern way of self promotion in which will boost clientele for myself and work.

My fake ad of ‘ACNE STUDIO’S’
I took a look at previous ad’s from Acne Studios and had noticed they tend to use two images next to each other to make one. This is one of my favourite images I had created however, in my group critique I was told the model’s pose with the clothing makes her look short... which isn’t a good look in the fashion industry.

The picture at the top is my edit from the shoot “The morning after the night before”
Because I’m heavily interested about fashion ad’s, I wanted to create a “fake advertisment” to exhibit that you don’t need to use nudity/erotica in an ad for it to look good and be successful for promotion. (This were my argument in my PH5001 written Essay - “Is it acceptable for fashion photography use sex and erotic’s to boost commodity?”)
In all of my shoots, my aim were to shoot with a brand in mind in which I can see my work being published for it’s advertisement. Hence the image below, Converse stood out to me at first because the model had on a pair. Looking at converse’s previous ad’s/campaigns I had realised they prodominately used dirty converse sneakers because it’s target audience were aimed at teens/young adults that party/have wild fun. This made me feel positive about my ‘Converse Ad’ because it showcased a similar feel

1 to 1 Tutor Feedback
From showing my work and research (below) to my tutor David, he had advised me that in my next shoot to really get to know the model before disguising who she/he is as a person by putting makeup on them and styling them.
Although beauty photography has a good market of work, I’m not only interested in beauty therefore David suggested working with a model that has a look I like and can work with. For example if I were to shoot Kate Moss I wouldn’t want to disguise her as “another person”, I’d want my photography to reflect on who she is as a person and as an art.
I took David’s feedback into account and shot my model before any styling and learnt how to open them up and feel comfortable. My model said she didn’t feel comfortable shooting without make-up because she felt/looked tired as she had a late night, I explained to her that her face shows emotion, in which is an art through my lens because it shows the truth on how she felt at that time, rather than having a fake/staged shoot. My tutors advice made me get the best results of my portraiture photography thus far. I realised portraiture is all about emotion and learning about your model at that present time to capture true emotion. I had named that series of work “The Morning after the Night before”
