Do you have any tutorials on how to color black characters? When I look for how to color skin it's mostly all white characters Thank you.
Here is a really good tutorial on darker skin by navate. I will check if I got some more.
Also check out the other parts of the tutorial that you can find in the description under the picture on deviantart.

A tip for blending when painting digitally: use a transition color! I quickly made this when my brother asked for art advice while I was working on a painting for my best friend. (I was watching a lot of makeup videos to pick out her gifts).

I'm mesmerized by how you paint portraits and make the shadows/lights regardless of the skin color, even blue-purple!! Do you have any advice about it? Your Essek looks so beautiful!!
First of all, thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
I must premise that this is not my usual method of colouring, nor have I studied colour theory. So I don't think I have nothing new to add from the thousands of tutorials that are already out on the internet.
This said, I think that one of the things you should always keep in mind when colouring in a realistic style is this: skin doesn't have a uniform colour. This is best summed up by this picture, from a tutorial by Jacques Choi.
No matter what base colour you're working with, be it pink, brown or purple: skin should always have "warmer" tones on the cheeks and nose (where I think there are more blood vessels? Science side of Tumblr explain!), and duller, "colder" ones arounf the mouth and on the forehead. This doesn't have to be super evident for all skins (there are skins that are more "uniform"), but yeah, it's not just light-coloures skins that can blush or that can have patches of "cooler" tones around the mouth and the forehead.
In Essek's case I blended a bright magenta with his purple base to suggest "redness" on the cheeks/nose, while for the rest I went on to "sculpt" his face with a cool dark blue for the shadows and a lilac at low opacity for the lighting.
Hope this helps in some way
