“I won’t let you run away.” Eddy told Ed immediately shutting and locking the window Ed was about to escape through.

Tears were drenching Ed’s face as he tried to fight Eddy to get around him. Eddy took hold of Ed’s arms and finally made him sit on his bed. Ed stopped trying to fight back and cried even more. Eddy sat close with him putting a comforting arm around his shoulder.

“I know, big guy. Take deep breaths.” Eddy told him worrying about the hard breaths Ed took.

“W-What do I do, Eddy? I can’t stay here anymore.” Ed whimpered.

“Where are you going to go?” Eddy asked.

“I could live in Rolf’s shed again.” Ed suggested.

“You know how that ended last time. Rolf even said that he weren’t allowed to come back or he’d steal your stocks and use them as cotton candy holders, or whatever he said.”

Ed looked all around his room. There was still that recognizable faint screaming coming from upstairs. His mother said the worst thing to him, and there was no way he could ignore this any longer. How she treated him was not how any mother should treat their child. And his father wasn’t doing a thing to help.

“What do I do, Eddy?” Ed asked his best friend. “I can’t live like this anymore.”

Eddy agreed with that. Ever since they were babies he witnessed Ed’s mom insult Ed as if he weren’t a person. And the things she’d do. Who threw plates at their husband? 

“You should never have been living this way. But, I’ve seen you fight through so much, Ed. Don’t give up yet ‘cause I’m going to do whatever I can to help you.”

Ed was struggling to accept the answer, but he nodded his head. He was still too young to live on his own, but too old to be dealing with this undeserved treatment. There wasn’t much he could do, but Eddy stayed with Ed and picked up a game with Ed. Ed was laughing again. That’s what Eddy loved seeing.
