here's another ant-mimicking jumping spider that I encountered in Singapore: Myrmaplata plataleoides, the weaver ant mimic.

while females look a great deal like their ant models, males (like this one) have massive, exaggerated fangs used in territorial and mating displays, which complicate the disguise. however, ants routinely carry their dead away from the nest, so it's thought that a male M. plataleoides mimics a worker holding another ant—his jaws even have false "eyes" on the ends!

his mimicry was clearly good enough to fool the ants; none of them seemed to take notice even as he repeatedly doubled back to guard his territory instead of heading further up the tree. although mimicry like this is often sensationalized as something insidious or spooky, Myrmaplata has no intention to eat the ants. rather, the spider hides among them for protection: weavers won't eat nestmates, and other predators know that weaver ants bite, spray acid, and attack in hordes. running with the ants might be risky, but he's always alert, watching their every move with his big eyes. what a life that must be, always living on the margins of a colony of hunters that would devour him, yet also keep him alive without ever knowing it

Psykiatrian erikoislääkäri ja Mehiläisen yhdenvertaisuus ja tasa-arvoasioiden johtava asiantuntija Teemu Kärnä muistuttaa, että ennen vuoden 2023 lakiuudistusta transihmisiltä vaadittiin lisääntymiskyvyttömyyttä, jotta juridisen sukupuolen saattoi muuttaa.

– Laki ei koskaan perustunut tieteeseen. Meillä on tutkimusnäyttöä siitä, että transsukupuolinen ihminen on aivan yhtä hyvä vanhempi kuin CIS-sukupuolinen. Valmiudet vanhemmuuteen eivät ole ihmisen sukupuoli-identiteetistä kiinni.

Kärnän mukaan vanha laki oli osoitus siitä, kuinka paljon yhteiskunnan asenteet vaikuttavat lainsäädäntöön ja käytäntöihin.

Aiemmin hedelmöityshoitolaissa puhuttiin naisista ja naisten hoidoista. Nyt lain mukaan raskaaksi voidaan auttaa sukupuolesta riippumatta.

1.3.2024 voimaan tullut lakimuutos mahdollisti vanhemmuusnimikkeen muutoksen vastaamaan vahvistettua sukupuolta. Esimerkiksi juridisen sukupuolen naisesta mieheksi korjannut henkilö voi olla lapselleen myös virallisesti isä.

Väestöliiton vuonna 2017 teettämän kyselytutkimuksen mukaan perhemuodolla ei ole merkitystä lapsen hyvinvoinnille. Sateenkaariperheissä voidaan aivan yhtä hyvin ja huonosti kuin muissa perheissä.

Vadelma-valkosuklaakeksit jäätelöllä / Raspberry white chocolate cookies with ice cream 🍪

Ainekset: 100 g juoksevaa margariinia 50 g maapähkinävoita 2 dl sokeria 1 rkl vaniljasokeria 1 dl soijamaitoa 3,5 dl vehnäjauhoja 1/2 tl suolaa 1 tl leivinjauhetta 1 tl ruokasoodaa 80 g vegaanista valkosuklaata murskattuna 50g mantelimurskaa 125 g vadelmia

Valmistus: 1. Sekoita margariini, sokeri, vaniljasokeri ja maapähkinävoi kulhossa. Lisää soijamaito. 2. Lisää joukkoon jauhot, leivinjauhe, ruokasooda ja suola. Sekoita hyvin. 3. Sekoita valkosuklaa, mantelit ja vadelmat taikinan joukkoon varovaisesti. 4. Laita taikina jääkaappiin noin tunniksi. 5. Lämmitä uuni 180 ° C asteeseen 6. Tee taikinasta pieniä palloja ja laita ne leivinpaperilla vuoratulle uunipellille. Jätä paljon tilaa taikinapallon ympärille, sillä ne leviävät kypsyessään. 7 .Paista keksejä uunissa noin 13 minuuttia. 8. Tarjoile viilenneet keksit jäätelön kanssa.

Method: 1. Mix margarine, sugar, vanilla sugar and peanut butter in a bowl. Add soy milk. 2. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix well. 3. Carefully mix in white chocolate, almonds and raspberries. 4. Chill the dough in the fridge for about an hour. 5. Preheat the oven to 180° C. 6. Roll the dough into small balls and put them to an oven tray lined with parchment paper. Make sure to leave room around the cookie dough balls because they expand while baking. 7. Bake the cookies for about 13 minutes. 8. Serve the cooled cookies with ice cream.
