GOD’S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH
READ PSALMS 82:1 THROUGH 85:13; ACTS 27:1–20
We use the term marathon as a way to honor the Greek runner, Phidippedes, who ran about twenty-six miles to carry the news of the Greek victory in the battle of Marathon. The effort killed him. Today, running a marathon is the crowning achievement for most long-
distance runners. Even prepared runners struggle throughout the race in different ways. Some draw strength from the nourishment that awaits at checkpoints, while others run with a friend.
In some ways, life can feel like a marathon when hard times and struggles come. It can seem like a chore just to make it through each day, but, for life’s race, God’s people can draw strength from His promises.
What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord … They will continue to grow stronger (Psalm 84:5,7).
This is not human strength, but a strength that God provides along the way in the difficult journey of life. As this life has its way of taking its toll on human hearts, God is there for those who look to Him for strength.
Challenge for Today: Find your strength in the promises of Scripture and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Quicklook: Psalm 84:5–7

I'm back to work, and when I hear a bold melodic whistle on someone else's playlist, I always know it's her, even if I don't know the song.
