Amethyst - Chapter Forty

The killer's identity is finally revealed.

"Y-YOU?!" Flossi gasped, as her eyes met with none other than the man who had started every Taldoursian citizen's journey as a Pokemon trainer.

"Cecillius..." Clyde said, equally taken aback by the man who had just identified himself as Kossi's killer. I heard a faint squeak come from Lily's Pokeball as she recognised the presence of the man whose care she had been in before being bestowed onto me.

Professor Birch began walking towards all of us, an odd expression on his features. Mackenzie just stood there agape, not knowing what to say. The man in the white lab coat quickly broke the silence that had enveloped the room. "Indeed. It is my fault that Kossi is no longer with us."

"No... no..." Flossi began shaking her head before stepping up once again and folding her arms across her chest. "You were Kossi's most trusted friend... you didn't murder him... did the Corrupt Four put you up to this?!"

Professor Birch simply shook his head. "It was an accident." He simply stated.

"And yet you've stayed silent this entire time?!" Mackenzie exclaimed. "For TWO WHOLE YEARS Freya has been completely shattered, seeking revenge on the Elite Four for something YOU did?!"

My eyes widened in discomfort. Mackenzie was usually a very calm, collected and passive person. I had never seen him go so berserk in all the months I had known him. The Professor simply blinked. He understood very well that his revelation would have dire consequences on multiple sides. "It was completely unintentional, I assure you."

"Then why didn't you just come forward and say it was an accident?" Clyde queried. "Why wait all these years?! Were you waiting for the foundations of the Taldourse government to collapse?!"

"Because Kossi didn't want me to." Cecillius responded. It was this statement that triggered a memory within me back at the Opaquia Gym, where Kossi's ghost seemed eager to protect the identity of the person he had been battling with that day.

*Flashback ~ Professor Birch's POV*

The tranquil morning was harshly interrupted by a loud knock on the door. Stretching my legs, I rose to my feet and shifted to answer the door. I was faced with none other than my best friend, the Champion himself, wearing his signature gold-and-black robes, white cape, and, of course, the infamous Sapphire Crown atop his straight blonde locks.

"Up with the larks I see, Kossi," I rubbed my eyes.

The turquoise-eyed champion was amused by my early-morning fatigue. "No rest for the Champions of Taldourse, old chap!" He retorted, his arms crossed atop his chest.

"Less of the old chap, please! We're literally the same age!" I rolled my eyes.

"You look a lot older than 25 in your PJs, no offence," Kossi giggled.

"Plenty taken." I replied with a fake scowl. We both laughed harder.

"Anyhoo, I take it you're all au fait with how ionisation works?" The Champion inquired, producing a luxury ball from the pocket of his trousers.

"Pretty much," I nodded my head.

"This is serious stuff, Cecil! There's no room for uncertainties here!" Kossi emphasised. "Let's go!" He turned around and began dashing excitedly down my garden path. I rubbed my weary eyes one final time before following him to the Opaquia gym.

I jogged up to his side, still not fully awake. "What's the Lady Champion up to on this fine morning?" I queried.

"She's in a meeting with Chairwoman Crystal about the very subject of ionisation energy." Kossi responded. "Flossi knows all about the technical mechanisms behind this stuff, where's I'm just focused on the fun side of things." Kossi waved an arm around in the air playfully.

I laughed at his goofy antics. Despite being the most powerful and eloquent man in Taldourse, he always made it his priority to have a good time above all else.

Upon entering the Opaquia gym, which was bustling with excited Taldoursians, Kossi and I were immediately swarmed by a crowd of adoring fans, begging for his autograph. I stood back, admiring how graciously he handled every single one of them. He turned around to me and gestured towards the door to the stadium. "Cecillius, please go on ahead to the theatre. I shall catch you up in a short while."

~ End of Flashback, back to your POV ~

"Little did I know, I'd be the only one leaving the theatre alive that day." Professor Birch stated, his voice full of sorrow.

"And you didn't think to even MENTION IT TO ME?!" Flossi demanded.

"I did... but Kossi begged me not to." The Professor responded.

"And you call yourself the Pokemon Professor?!" Mackenzie scoffed, his fingers making quotation marks for the word 'Professor'. "You're a disgrace. An absolute disgrace!"

"You do realise you could've cost us everything?!" Clyde stepped up. This was the first time I had ever seen the Fairy Master in a serious and angered state. It was quite a sight to behold.

"And to think I've been persecuting the wrong people all along... I feel such an imbecile," Flossi continued.

"You lied to us all. You really are something else." I spat, disgusted by the sight of Cecillius by this point.

"This is why I became the Professor at such a young age. I was so torn up by guilt... so I threw myself into work and study to try and block it all out." Cecillius stated. "That's what Kossi wanted."

"What were my husbands last words?" Flossi asked with a sniff. "You owe me that much at least."

Cecillius cleared his throat, a tear forming in his eye at this point,

"Tell Flossi I love her, and to continue to carry the torch of the Taldourse Championship." He quoted.

Flossi whimpered out in grief, bringing her free hand up to cover her face as the tears once again penetrated her now-swollen eyes. Her other hand slowly loosened its grip on her late husbands' crown, until her palm ultimately opened up and the precious relic fell to the floor.

"It was a Solar Beam that ultimately knocked him down." Cecillius continued. "It hit him right in the chest. I'll never forget the sound of his scream."

"So it was an attack from a Pokemon?!" Mackenzie gasped in horror. My heart also began pounding as I realised the almost exact same thing had happened to Danny just half an hour prior.

"Pokemon don't attack people. The beam hit Kossi by mistake. He knew it was an accident. That's why he didn't want me to tell anyone. He didn't want me to be punished for an accident. He forgave me right as he died."

"So... Danny could die?" I spoke, my voice cracking as tears formed.

There was a pause, as if the Professor was reluctant to continue, yet he eventually answered with a small nod, "It is possible he may be lost on us."

Flossi collapsed onto her knees at this point, overwhelmed with both guilt and grief. There was a hard smacking sound as her knuckles hit the floor. Her head flopped downwards, directly facing the ground, causing the beautiful Amethyst Crown to topple off of her head and fall right at the side of its sparkling Sapphire counterpart. It was a beautiful yet tragic sight to see the two legendary Champion Crowns resting side by side. I watched in anguish as she curled up into a ball, clutching her thick hair with her hands. My attention quickly turned back to Professor Birch, who at this point, was begging for Clyde's understanding.

Seemingly out of nowhere, the argument was interrupted by a shrieking female voice. Even Flossi was alerted from her defensive position.

"CECILLIUS BIRCH!" As we all turned towards the archway entrance, Crystal was storming into the hall, marching right up to the guilty Professor, her eyes boring with rage. "I know exactly what you've done. You've taken us all for complete fools!"

"How many times; it was an ACCIDENT!" Cecillius pleaded. Crystal shook her head, and Clyde simply rolled his eyes.

"That's not the point! You almost allowed our government and infrastructure to collapse before our eyes!" The Chairwoman continued.

"That was down to her, not me." The Professor spat back, gesturing towards the grieving widow on the floor.

This then prompted Flossi to speak up. "I'm aware what I did was wrong on many levels, but THIS... what you've done... was, indeed, a complete perversion of the course of justice."

"I can't stand to look at him any longer. He makes me sick." Mackenzie moved to the other side of the room, and stood beside Crystal. "How's Danny doing?"

"He's in an ICU. He's still showing no signs of rousing." Crystal replied, much to my disappointment.

"I'm not the crazy one who decided to destroy an entire region of Pokemon with genetic engineering!" The disgraced Professor yelled, desperately trying to deflect from his actions.

Three large Hitmonchans appeared right on cue behind the Chairwoman. "Take him away." She instructed. The three large fighting-type Pokemon proceeded to grab Cecillius by the arms, and firmly manoeuvre him out of the room. "Get your filthy hands off me! I'm the Professor, for Arceus' sake! It was an accident! Flossi was the one who blew this out of proportion - OUCH!" His cries faded as he was escorted out, the five of us watching speechless after him.

My eyes turned back to Flossi once the Professor had been carted away. She was now standing at the large, stained-glass window with her back to us, staring out of it. The crowns remained on the floor exactly where she had dropped them. The next words that followed from her were so shocking that I almost thought I misheard her.

"Take the crowns." She said simply, without turning around.

"What?!" Mack gasped.

"That's what you came for. So there. I'm giving you what you want. Just take them and go." She continued, still unflinching.

Unsure, I turned to Clyde, who gestured towards the two Champions relics laying on the ground. Crystal's face was expressionless, as was Mackenzie's. The decision was in my hands.

And so, placing one foot in front of the other, I stepped out towards the crowns, and slowly bent my body over to retrieve them. My heart slammed frantically in my chest as I was about to make contact with the two most coveted treasures in the region. I carefully took the Amethyst Crown in my left hand and the Sapphire Crown in my right. I heard footsteps, and quickly realised that Mackenzie, Clyde and Crystal were all exiting the room, leaving just me and Flossi, who couldn't stand to turn around and witness the last piece of her reign disappearing.

"You can keep the crowns if you really want..." I eventually spoke up. "They don't really mean that much to me, symbolically."

The ex-champion sighed in frustration. "Just take the cursed crowns and leave me alone, would you?!" She sniffed again, as she brought her hand up to her face. "L-let me be alone... please..."

Respecting her decision, I nodded my head, looking down at the sparkling Amethyst and Sapphire gems beautifully embedded into the shiny gold metal. Despite the countless catastrophes that had occurred tonight, they still sparkled unlike anything I'd ever seen before. I nodded to myself, making a mental note to visit Galar Mine for myself one day, and then made a swift exit.

When I finally made it outside, my eyes immediately adjusted to the pitch black that was Opaquia city. I looked downwards, and around fifty feet below, I could make out a Corviknight along with 3 people waving at me, signifying it was time to say goodbye to the bleak city of Opaquia. Before I did, I took one final glance behind me through the stained-glass window of the hall above me, only to see Flossi knelt before a portrait of the late Kossi, sobbing uncontrollably. Knowing that there was nothing more I could do, I sighed, and began making my way to where the flying taxi was located.

"Kossi... what have I done... p-please don't hate me for it..."

Well this hunt was a *tad* longer than the last few in 407 eggs (not complaining though, the way I've been repeatedly hatching shinies in like 20 eggs has been ludicrous in the best way possible) but here she is, and she was so worth it! 💜 Monica 💜

Amethyst - Chapter Thirty-Nine

A/N: Some very dark themes ahead involving severe emotional trauma, loss, anguish, and identity crises as Flossi comes to some brutal realisations

Will Danny survive?

"Flossi! We didn't kill Kossi! Why won't you believe us?" Clyde yelled.

"There's absolutely no other explanation! You're the ones with all the power in the land!" She yelled.

"It's no good!" Lisa screamed. "He's not responding!"

I felt a shiver up my spine as I trembled in fear of my best friend's life, as it continued to hang in the balance. Flossi, however, seemed to have forgotten entirely about Danny, and remained hell-bent on revenge.

"This is my final act. Please enjoy the show." She spoke shakily, as she held her Master Ball up for us all to see.

Flossi sent out Epsilon!

"AAAAAGGGGIIIAAASSSSS!!!!" The large creature rumbled as I extended an arm to shield myself from the new draught that was caused by the enormous creature.

"Take it down. She can't do anything else without it." Louis instructed. I took a breath, as the red-eyed lizard creature bared its large teeth. Lily was running dangerously low on HP, and was my only definite unit left other than that Miraidon. I had no guarantee that Pokemon would respond to me, so Lily was my best bet.

"Lily, use Giga Drain!"

It's not very effective...

The amount of Epsilon's HP that was sapped was negligible.

Epsilon used Stomping Tantrum!

Lily fainted!

"I know it's against battle rules, but think I might have to step in here..." Clyde scratched his head regrettably.

"I shall never accept anyone as Champion other than myself or Kossi! You shall NEVER have these crowns!" Flossi's raised voice echoed around the room.

"No need, Clyde! Y/N has another Pokemon!" Mackenzie exclaimed upon remembering that Miraidon.

"Okay, here goes. If this fails, she's got us." I whispered to the two men by my side.

You sent out Miraidon!

Little did I know, the sight of the Miraidon on my team served to make her - somehow - even MORE mad.

"N-NO! NOT ENCELADUS!" She shrieked, flailing her arms around erratically. She pointed directly at the Miraidon which was directly opposing her Epsilon. "THAT POKEMON BELONGED TO KOSSI! YOU STOLE IT!" She shifted her finger slightly so that she was now gesturing towards me.

Clyde stepped up. "Flossi, I hate to break it to you, but this pokemon allowed Y/N to catch it! Y/N is the rightful owner now."

"But you can't STEAL Pokemon! You just can't!" She desperately cried in response, the tears now streaming down her face at full force. "Especially not from my Kossi..."

"Kossi is dead." Louis stated.

"Thanks to you!" Flossi spat back, before pausing to contemplate her next move. Her eyes darted towards Epsilon, who was stood tall, awaiting its mistress' directions. "This level of disrespect for myself and my dead husband has reached absurdity! I won't tolerate anymore! Epsilon, use Death Summons!"

Epsilon used Death Summons!

The ground began to shake once again, and I struggled to steady myself as Epsilon's pink scaly body changed to Black.

All of Epsilon's stats rose sharply!

"F-Flossi!!!" Mackenzie cried out, his legs shaking beneath him from the earthquake. "I... I understand what you went through as a child."

"How can you possibly understand anything I've gone through?!" Flossi demanded.

"Because I was an orphan! I have no real family! If it wasn't for Lisa and her family, I'd still be lost and alone in the woods, just like you!"

Flossi began clapping her hands sarcastically. "Congratulations! You got your happy ending! Mine was snatched away from me brutally!"

"He's right though, you came from a similar situation, didn't you Freya?" I interjected.

"No! NO!" She shook her head vehemently. "Don't you DARE - ANY OF YOU - EVER claim to have suffered like I have! You have NO IDEA just how fortunate you all really are... just to have people in your life... and not be all alone! No family, no friends... not ONE person caring if you're living or if you're DEAD MEAT!!" Her hands came to completely cover her face as Epsilon watched on, ready to make its next move.

Flossi was in full on hysteria at this point, screaming and crying into her hands. Her body also shook violently, as the emotional pain and trauma washed over her like a brutal tidal wave. She had lost everything and everyone she had ever loved, and pushed away anyone who could've possibly helped her, most likely out of fear she would lose them just like she did.

She was so... fragile... and it appeared as though she had finally reached her breaking point.

I turned to Clyde and Mackenzie, who both nodded as they gestured towards Miraidon, who was looking at me in anticipation.

I cleared my throat, knowing exactly what needed to be done.

Miraidon used Spear of Destruction!

Epsilon flinched and couldn't move!

Miraidon used Dazzling Gleam!

"M-master..." Epsilon hummed, darting its eyes to the left where Flossi was still stood with her head in her hands, and her back slightly hunched, like a Toxel. She did not respond to her Pokemon. She had completely burned herself out.

"Now's your chance, Y/N! What are you waiting for!" Mackenzie demanded.

Unexpectedly, Flossi's head rose from her hands. Her expression was not one I could read, although I knew it was bad. "You're going to pay for this... every... last... one of you..." she hissed. She slipped her hand into her dress pocket, and pulled out a small, shiny piece of metal. As soon as she inserted it into the Master Ball, I knew what I had to do.

Reaching into my own pocket, I retrieved my ionisation chip, my hand shook in terror as I inserted it into Enceladus' Pokeball.

Mackenzie cleared his throat before speaking up again. "Flossi, you're the most powerful and feared woman in all of Taldourse. You've reached the top echelons AND you've got the crown to prove it. But what good is ANY of that when you're completely eaten up by contempt and loneliness?"

Although Mack's question clearly struck a chord within the disgraced champion, she did not respond to him. She instead ordered the newly-ionised Epsilon to deliver a devastating attack on Enceladus.

Epsilon used Dragon Pulse!

It's supereffective!

My breath hitched in my throat and my heart dropped to my stomach as all of Enceladus' HP plummeted to almost zero, yet when it was delivered, Enceladus did not faint!

Enceladus toughed it out for Danny's sake!

"Unbelievable... it's... impossible..." Clyde marvelled. Mackenzie just stood wide eyed beside him, too shocked to speak as I was. "I've never seen any Pokemon do that before!"

"Finish this, Y/N!" Lisa ordered aggressively, the determination in her voice echoing around the room like a boomerang.

Miraidon used Draco Meteor!!!

Epsilon fainted!

You defeated Champion Flossi!

The crashes and booms that followed as the ionisation energy reached its peak and dissipated back into Epsilon's master ball were some of the most chilling and explosive sounds I'd ever heard. We all instinctively pressed our hands over our earlobes as the floor vibrated like waves beneath our feet. At one point it felt as though the ground was going to collapse beneath me. It was all so cataclysmic that it was almost enough to drown out Flossi's shrill screams of despair as her legacy as Champion came crashing down. By this point, Louis, Crystal and Lisa had somehow managed to lift Danny's limp body and transport him out of the room, and ultimately, out of the way of any further harm.

"Y/N... you did it..." Mackenzie spoke, once the noise had died down.

"How... how could this come to be?!" Flossi asked, her voice now soft, frail, weak and broken. She brought one shaky hand up to her face, unable to digest the devastating blow. "Nobody has EVER defeated me in a Pokemon battle before... nobody in Taldourse, Galar, Kanto or even Paldea..." her voice continued to shake and the tears in her eyes were so thick they almost blurred out her irises. "It's not possible! IT'S NOT POSSIBLE!!!" Her hands swiftly moved up to her head, clutching the sides and shaking it vigorously, almost as if she were trying desperately to wake herself from a nightmare.

"What was even your plan to begin with, Flossi?" Mackenzie asked. "Did you honestly think that you could just destroy the Pokemon League and that would cure you of all your pain?"

For once, she did not have a snide remark at hand to dismiss his questions. Instead, the once-so-mighty Champion only sobbed in response, "I-I don't know... I didn't plan that far ahead..."

"Hurting other people won't make you feel better." Clyde added. "If anything, it would've made you feel worse."

She did not respond to this, however, I could tell that she was still taking in everything that was being said to her by the changes in her expression. Yet the Amethyst Crown remained firmly on her head, still flickering in the candlelight, whilst she clutched Kossi's Sapphire Crown with what little strength she had left.

"What happens next is up to you now, Y/N. You must do whatever you think is the right thing." Clyde continued, as his and Mackenzie's gazes shifted towards me.

I pondered deeply. I knew I had just crushed the dreams of a grieving widow, and it felt like taking the crowns from her would just be rubbing extra salt in the wound. However, I feared that if things were left as they were, she would eventually become even more angry and determined to crush the Pokemon League. I stepped forward, causing the threatened girl to clutch the crown even more protectively. "Flossi, I can only offer my deepest condolences for the loss of Kossi. I know he was the one who saved you all those years ago... but nothing you or any of us can do will ever bring him back."

"Don't you think I know that?!" She screamed back. "I'm not trying to bring him back! I'm pursuing retribution!"

It was then Clyde's turn to speak. "Flossi, if we knew who was really responsible for Kossi's death, don't you think we'd be doing everything we can to find them and punish them accordingly?"

It was at this point I thought back on my meeting with Kossi's ghost and what he had said about it being an accident. I began to understand why he did not want her to ever find out the truth. I also knew that telling her that Kossi's spirit was still alive would only mess with her head further, and possibly send her further over the edge. We were completely stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. No good would ever come to Flossi unless the real culprit came forward.

She took a deep breath, before screwing up her face once more. "No... No.... No... NOOOOOOOO!" She outstretched an arm once again, pointing directly to Clyde. "You... Fairy Freakshow... and Crystal... YOU were the ones who cooked this all up! That's why you've never apprehended anyone! You are the only ones in the region powerful enough to kill a reigning champion! That's how I know it wasn't anyone else!"

Mackenzie rolled his eyes, as if to say here we go again, however he did not dare to comment.

"You're going to pay! You MUST PAY!!!!" She darted over to the large, electrical machine built in to the corner wall of the great hall and began frantically finger-punching various buttons. The machine began to hiss loudly. "I'm going to kill you right now! I'm going to kill all of the Corrupt Four, and the Imposter Champion Y/N... and then I shall rule over Taldourse as a dictator--"

"STOOOPPPP IT FLOSSI!!!!!" A mysterious voice screeched out. We all looked around the room, we had been so distracted that we had failed to notice another person had entered the hall. Flossi froze in her tracks in front of the machine, her back still to the mysterious intruder.

"Clyde is right. The Elite Four are not the ones responsible for Kossi's demise."

Flossi was the first to slowly turn her body around, her tear-stained red eyes widening to their fullest upon seeing who was standing there.

"It was me." The voice confessed. "I killed Kossi."

At this instant, Mackenzie, Clyde and myself also spun around, and the person who was standing there completely shocked me to my very core.

Pokemon Sword and Shield Shiny Hunt - Results so far

I recently got into shiny hunting. I'm using sword and shield because I really hate the picnic method on scarlet and violet.

Here's what I got:

Eevee #1: 345 eggs

Ralts: 1,237 eggs

Hattena: 150 eggs

Sableye: 23 eggs

Eevee #2: 2,348 eggs

Feebas: 25 eggs

Togepi: 32 eggs

Rotom: 220 eggs

Amethyst - Chapter thirty-eight

Champion Flossi sent out Espeon!

"Behold! This victory shall be the richest jewel in my crown!" Flossi yelled out loud as we both sent out our first Pokemon.

I decided to open up this bottle with Zelda, as she was by far the most durable Pokemon I had. I was essentially walking into this battle blindfolded, as I had no idea what kind of mechanical devices I was up against. This Espeon appeared larger than the average, however, did not seem as though it had been mechanically altered in any way, so I decided to take it as I saw it. Its beady red eyes bore into those of my Milotic, ready to pounce.

"Zelda, use Protect!"

Zelda protected itself!

"Ganymede! Use Psychic Clank!" Flossi ordered.

Damn... this was a move I hadn't heard of before. It was obviously one of Flossi's inventions. A yellow-orange whirlpool began growing and oscillating from beneath the Pokemon, before it leapt and charged at Zelda.

Zelda was unable to protect itself and got hurt!

I smacked my palm against my forehead, wishing I had anticipated this.

"I should've expected you'd be using dirty underhanded tactics!" Lisa snapped from behind me, causing Flossi to smirk smugly.

Zelda used Hydro Pump!

It started to rain!

"Oh no, my blessed furnishings are getting wet!" Flossi squealed, although it was hard to tell whether she was being serious or sarcastic. The move itself reduced the HP of Flossi's Espeon slightly, however, its Sp Def was extremely high, as could be expected from the strongest Champion in Taldourse history.

Ganymede used Psychic!

I raised my eyebrows proudly as the move didn't seem too effective against Zelda due to her also having a remarkable Sp Def. This visibly irked my opponent, and she snapped her fingers as a result.

Zelda used Waterfall!

This move was slightly more effective, and Ganymede's HP was now only three-quarters of what it was.

"Come on Y/N! You can do this!" Danny cheered from behind me.

"Yeah! The moron is right for once!" Lisa added. I could almost see Danny roll his eyes at her comment, however, I elected to remain as firmly focused as was possible.

Ganymede used Psychic Terrain!

But it failed!

"YESSSS!" Mackenzie yelled in the loudest tone I'd ever heard from him as Flossi's Ganymede fainted and Zelda wiggled her fishy body in victory.

"Hmmm... he was always the laziest," Flossi stated, trying to mask her humiliation as much as possible.

Flossi sent out Nova!

I decided to keep Zelda on the frontline, who blinked in response to seeing the signature sheen coming from Flossi's shiny Hatterene.

Nova used Hyper Beam!

"Loss of composure for just a second can be fatal." Flossi commented, sporting an evil grin. However, this grin quickly dissipated and was replaced by a hollow expression. "My dear Kossi learned that the hard way the day he was brutally murdered..."

Go! Stalagus!

Stalagus and I were breathing in perfect sync with one another, as he whistled his signature call out sound. Nova's psychic energy had began to permeate the air and was gradually confusing everything.

"G-guys... what are we doing here, again?" Danny asked, his voice a little slurred.

"Mark my words, the Corrupt Four are going to atone for what they did. And if I have to kill you all first, then so be it."

I winced as the pink mist shrouded my eyes, slightly blurring mine and my Pokémon's vision, which lowered his accuracy.

"Come on, Flossi, this isn't the answer!" Mackenzie protested. "We've all had unfortunate things happen to us at the hands of other people! You don't have to do this!"

"Shut up, would you?!" The angry psychic shouted back.

"He's right though," I interjected, whilst simultaneously signalling for Stalagus to use a protective move against the vicious Hatterene. "Do you really think Kossi would've wanted all this?"

Upon hearing the name of her late husband, Flossi froze for a brief second, her hand in front of her chest. It was almost as if I had triggered something within her. Yet, she quickly shook her head and snapped out of it, continuing on with her long-standing ruthless facade. "Kossi would be proud of me for my prowess and strength! Besides I'm the only one fighting for his justice! I'm the only one fighting to keep his legacy alive!"

"There are so many other ways you can keep his legacy alive other than fighting!" Mackenzie argued.

"Don't waste your time trying to reason with a psychopath. Just knock her down!" Lisa interjected.

"Guys... I don't feel so good..." Danny mumbled from behind. I sharply turned my head before Mackenzie spoke up. "I'll see to him, Y/N. Just concentrate on the battle."

The second I turned around, Stalagus was fainting and dissolving back into his Pokeball. I mentally cursed at myself as I had not been paying attention. Flossi crossed her arms victoriously; she had seized the upper hand whilst I had been distracted.

The mist disappeared from the battlefield!

You're in charge, Umbreon!

Much to my relief, my trusty Opaquian Umbreon beat the shiny Nova down to the ground in one fell swoop of Dark Pulse.

Nova fainted!

"Hmph. This is getting boring now. Think it's time I brought the Big Boys out to play." Flossi commented.

Flossi sent out Armarouge!

"Master... dinner!" The creature croaked.

"How do you get Pokemon to talk? It's so creepy." Lisa proceeded to ask.

"Simple. Just extract and centrifuge some of their DNA, fuse it with cells from ancient Paldean specimens, then transfer it back in via an electrolyte." Flossi stated, as if it was not one of the most convoluted things ever. She was doing it on purpose, to make us feel stupid in hopes of throwing me off. I grimaced, although I didn't let her science jargon throw me off.

"Alright Maverick, use Blazing Billows!"

"Watch it!" I screamed instinctively.

Umbreon moved in time via your shout!

"Whew... is it getting hot in here or is it just me?" Danny asked, his tone somewhat dazed.

"Thanks, Captain Obvious." Lisa mumbled in response.

"I can't make sense of this, Flossi." Mackenzie continued.

"My father always said simple-mindedness was a disease." She spat back.

"I don't mean the science. I mean you." Mackenzie continued.

"It's pretty simple. My husband was killed and the perpetrators haven't seen justice. Not sure what's so hard to fathom."

"But you ran away from Team Moon." Mackenzie responded. "You always spoke out about how much you hated the way they manipulated Pokémon's DNA and move pool. Why go back to it after all those years?"

Maverick used Psychock!

It's not very effective...

"Argh!" Flossi screamed out in frustration, her tensions reaching as high as the room's temperature. The reflection of the flames emanating from her Armarouge flickered in her eyes. She was troubled and lost. "MAVERICK USE PSYSHOCK AND ACTUALLY MAKE IT WORK THIS TIME!!!"

Maverick used Psychock!

It's not very effective...

Umbreon's HP was in the red zone, yet he was still hanging in strong.

"You didn't answer my question!" Mackenzie interjected. "Why did you go back to your evil roots?!"

"Because this is the only way I can take my power back, okay? Engineering and type manipulation, it's what I was bred to do, and it's literally all know!" She yelled out in response, although she immediately grimaced, knowing she'd accidentally revealed too much.

"I hate to say, but that kinda makes sense," Danny said.

"I knew you were an idiot but come on, Danny, you can't actually be serious right now!" A confused Lisa snapped. "Mackenzie will you stop being nice to her! She just said she wanted to KILL us, for Arceus' sake!"

"That's not exactly what she said," I corrected. "But don't worry! I won't allow that to happen!" I turned back to Flossi, whose crown was glistening in the flames. "Stop this now, Flossi. You don't need to hurt anyone!"

Another tear left her eye. Her face began to twitch ever so slightly, causing her to turn away and hide it. I used this opportunity to sneak in an attack on her Pokemon.

Umbreon used Dark Pulse!

It's super effective!

Maverick fainted!

"Yesss! Keep going, Y/N." Mackenzie cheered from the side.

I turned to face him, speaking quietly, "Keep on speaking to Flossi, too. I think she's about to reach her breaking point." He nodded in acceptance, although I could sense the hesitation in his eyes. Flossi was, after all, the most dangerous woman in Taldourse, and right now, also the most enraged.

"M-master... d-dinner..." the Armarouge stuttered as it disappeared back into its Pokeball.

"Look what you've done now!" Flossi freaked out, gesturing towards Maverick's luxury ball. "I hope you're very proud of yourself, Y/N."

"Yeah, and I hope YOU are too, you absolute freak!" Lisa yelled back. "You're pathetic, Freya. Pathetic. Just let it go!"

Flossi scoffed in response. "Hmph. As insufferable as you are, even I wouldn't tell YOU to just 'let it go' if you'd endured twenty-four years of pure suffering."

Flossi sent out Optimus!

"Optimus, please, seal justice for my beloved Kossi! Use Ice Beam!"

"YEEES MAASSSTEEERRR!" The giant psychic-dragon churned in response.

Optimus used ice beam!

Umbreon avoided the attack!

As Umbreon swiftly dodged yet another incoming attack, the Ice Beam unfortunately failed to stop, and instead continued shooting across the large hall room. Optimus' attack radius was far, far greater than any Pokemon I'd ever witnessed before, and disastrously so, it hurtled its attack straight into Danny's chest.

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!" A piercing scream ensued which shook the ground beneath us.

"DANNY!" I yelled as I ran further from Flossi right to my rival's side. Lisa and Mackenzie also did so, and we all knelt down beside Danny, who had collapsed onto his back at this point, completely unconscious.

"DANNY!" I cried, my entire body shaking in anxiety as I tried to awake my rival to no avail.

Lisa grabbed his head and shook it violently, "WAKE UP, YOU DARN IDIOT! You're scaring even me now!" She growled.

"Lisa don't do that. Last thing he needs is additional head trauma." Mackenzie interjected, frantically reaching into his backpack and whipping out a First Aid kit. I furiously turned back around, and Flossi was just standing there, her arms crossed, and Optimus floating above her. My entire body seethed with rage.

"If you've hurt my best friend in ANY way, I swear to Arceus I will END you!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Flossi just smirked at this point. "I told you that you'd run into trouble if you ever messed with me."

"Right, that's it! I don't feel sorry for you any more! Umbreon, use Foul Play!"

Flossi's brow raised as a supereffective critical hit was landed on her beloved Optimus, sapping its HP by more than half. Although she was trying her best to seem unfazed by the hit she had accidentally landed on Danny, her body was also shaking at this point. I heard Mackenzie order Lisa to call for help on her Rotom phone, as he tended to an unconscious Danny with his medical supplies. I knew I had to subdue Flossi to stop her from hurting anyone else.

Optimus used Earthquake!

Umbreon fainted!

As I prepared to send out my next Pokemon, Sylveon, I heard a concerned Optimus speak up to its master. "Optimus hurt Miscreant Danny... Optimus is a bad boy... Master Freya help miscreant..."

"Shut it and do your job! Don't turn on me now!" She barked back in response.

Sylveon used Dazzling Gleam!

It's supereffective!

Optimus fainted!

Flossi sent out Metagross!

"Where is he! What's happening?" Another voice cried out. I turned around to see none other than Louis, Seraphina, Clyde and Crystal running into the hall and straight over to where Danny was lying.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't the Corrupt Four themselves. Thought you'd show up sooner." Flossi sneered.

"What have you done to him?!" Louis demanded.

Flossi shrugged. "He got in my way."

"You never learn, do you?!" Crystal scowled at Flossi before learning over to tend to Danny.

"Makes my life a lot easier. Means I can finish you all right where you stand!" Flossi announced, before throwing out yet another luxury Pokeball.

Metagross used Take Down!

Sylveon fainted!

"Come on, Flossi. Stop. This isn't you." Clyde said as he stepped up alongside Mackenzie.

"Shut up, fairy freak! YOU are responsible for this!" Flossi shrieked as she gestured towards Clyde, Louis behind him, and to the two elite females and Lisa, who were forming a barrier with their hands outstretched around Danny.

I knew time was of the essence. Danny was not showing any signs of waking up, and Flossi was a ticking time bomb. It was only a matter of time until someone ended up dead. Upon realising this was literally a life-or-death situation, I hastily retrieved Lily' Pokeball from my belt, and spoke, "Lily, please save Danny!"

Lily used Titanium Glade!

It was moderately effective against the pseudo-legendary.

"Yes come on, Y/N! You got this!" Louis encouraged.

Metagross used Meteor Mash!

This was also moderately effective against Lily, who retained around 75% of her HP following this attack.

"Clyde's right! You're destroying yourself, Flossi! Is this really how you want to be remembered?!" Mackenzie interjected.

She shook her head vehemently. "It matters not how people remember me. Not anymore. The only person in the world who ever loved me is gone. Without Kossi, there is no Flossi..." her voice trailed away.

"This is where all of us come to our end."
