I couldn’t agree more!! I’ve never really been sold on Az and Elain.

Some Gwynriel / E/riel Thoughts.

I just saw a post that said Azriel and Elain do not matter politically. And I couldn’t agree more. No High Lord cares if Azriel and Elain bang. No one knows Elain. And the High Lords aren’t particularly interested in Azriel’s love life. How can your forbidden romance work when literally nobody knows Elain and she doesn’t matter politically. The only person that cares is Rhys and that’s because of Lucien.

Remove Lucien and the whole E/riel plot crumbles.

And speaking of Lucien,all he has to do is reject the bond and then there’s no more “forbidden romance” and if it comes to that....he absolutely will. You know why....because he genuinely cares about Elain and would never try to force the bond on her. He’s the one that abandoned the only life he’s ever known for her,was worried when she wasn’t fine and the one who wouldn’t stifle her growth. Lucien is a good person. A very good person. And if Elain didn’t want him,he wouldn’t force anything on her.

I love Azriel....but he would stifle Elain with overprotectiveness. We’ve already seen it happening in ACOSF. I’m sure you were all “awwing” when he was being overprotective of her but in case you haven’t noticed,SJM likes her females capable of handling themselves. Elain isn’t developed enough for that. She has to leave her sisters,and grow out of their shadow. Which explains all the foreshadowing about leaving the night court.

This is where Gwyn comes in. Azriel encourages Gwyn. Looks at her admirably and has no doubt she can handle herself. He’s training her. Not stifling her with overprotectiveness. (Kinda reminds me of Rowan training Aelin) And now.....for some reason he’s thinking about her smile and smiling. His shadows are calming down around her and he doesnt quite understand the glow in his chest when he thinks about her......

In conclusion,E/riel is only happening if Lucien becomes some sort of villain who wants to come between them....that’s never going to happen so buckle up for Gwynriel because that’s a ship that can actually stand on its own.

She has never sat down and retold her story again and again to gain any favours or empathy.

In fact, in Wings and Embers when Cassian asked her who hurt her, her first reaction is to ask:

"Would it change anything if someone had? Would it make you see me differently, treat me differently?"

She never say anything about herself, she never tell people about her misfortunes.

So stop fucking saying that she cant use her traumas to justify her behaviour because SHE ALWAYS PRETEND TO BE FINE. She always pretend that nothing affects her, even though she's feel things x1000 more than anyone else but she suffer it in silence, away from people.

That's the reason she left Feyre's house after the war. Because she could be alone, away from her sisters, away from anyone that would judge her every move and force her to keep pretending that she's okay.

Some of you have never experienced shit and it shows.

But... he couldn't... Feyre has the proof, it's marked right there.. he was surrounded by a THOUSAND soldiers... he wouldn't be able to hear her... But he could feel her..

Feyre: Oh my god, poor Feyre. And she's dealing with PTSD, but my baby Rhys is helping her. Look at her getting hold of her powers, all the people around telling her she's great. She's amazing. She can do anything. All the support, all the understanding of her trauma.

Elain: oh my sweet sweet Elain, what do you need? What can we do to help? Just say it, anything! We will get you anything! We will give you time, we will give you space. Please let us know, we're here for you.

Nesta: Bitch get over it. Like honestly, you're a grown ass woman. I expect you to pull yourself together and start helping around cause nothing around here is free. And why the hell are you not smiling or being nice? So ungrateful, honestly.

This is all Nesta wanted. Freedom of her own. She loves Elaine and would tear herself apart for her, but even then all she wanted was freedom. The freedom to become her own person. And more than anything else I think maybe that’s why becoming Fae ruined her. Because it was, in her opinion, her chance at that life out in the world slipping away.

Because someone would have to protect Elaine and it wouldn’t be her shitty Lord Grayson. Or their father. Or even Feyre. Feyre who had a new family, who had become fae and in doing so gotten everything she had ever wanted or needed. It wouldn’t be Feyre because she had already put in her time protecting Elaine and everyone else and now she had new responsibilities. So she resigned herself to that same fate that had kept her cold for their lives pre and post Tamlin.

And then the war came and for just a moment there she was close. The king of Hybern had almost killed her and while she didn’t know what death would hold it was finally her adventure. Finally her freedom. And Cassian... he promised to find her in that next world. So perhaps she could have freedom and adventure and also something more. And then it was gone again and she was alive and she should have been happy but all she could do was think that perhaps it wasn’t worth it.

Because in Velaris, Nesta can never be free and she can never make anything from just her own self. She will always be the High Lady’s sister. She will always be what the cauldron made her. The only thing she can do about that is exactly what she was doing for ACOFAS. She became the opposite of Feyre. She distances herself from her new family because then, at least, she would have the power to destroy herself. At least it was something.

And Cassian keeps trying to bring her back in but all she can think about is his promise and the understanding that giving him what he wants from her in this life is a chain of its own. He has already made a place for himself in the world, carved it out with his grit and sweat and passion. And if she gives in to that even a little, it’s an admission that she will never do any of it herself. That it will not be her own good name that propels her on.

Nesta is cold and broken but even through it all, when she had no hope in that cottage and hated her own weakness, she still made her own choices. Bad ones, but they were hers. And that’s what she’s doing again. Because she is back to being cold and broken and stuck, needing Feyre to care for her and then hating her for doing it.

Anyway, just my thoughts...
