“please, stop – stop yelling at me.” despite the fact that victor’s voice hadn’t been raised, the sharpness of his words was enough to prompt devon to her plea. she didn’t want to see things the way he was putting them, didn’t want to believe that her boyfriend truly cared so little about her as victor seemed to believe. “you know i care about your opinion, but… this is my life, okay? it’s my call. not yours.” she was making an effort to sound decided, resolute, truly, but putting her foot down was a struggle for devon; maybe she should have known better when she turned to him for comfort, but the last thing she wanted was to pick a fight with her friend.
victor inhaled sharply in an attempt to calm himself, but it was relatively useless. “i’m not even yelling,” he told devon through gritted teeth, purposely lowering his tone to prove his point. “i’m so fed up at this point. i hear you complain, you stand up for his awful behavior, and i’m sick of it. i realize i can’t control what you do, but you’re just not thinking straight.” his hands rested on his hips in a defensive stance, shifting weight between feet, agitated. “why won’t you just listen to me? i guarantee you i care about you more than he does!”

gimme an affair plot. gimme a plot where there’s heartache and angst and one side feels too much deeper than the other. gimme a couple who have to sneak around behind significant others backs (husbands/wives/boyfriends/girlfriends/wtv.) gimme the difficulty of scheduling time and texts unanswered bc someone else is watching. gimme the quickies in random places because that’s the only way they can see each other. gimme the hardship of seeing someone you’re in love with love someone else when you’re not around. just. gimme. pls.

using gesture
we’ve all read that prompt where someone is smirking, cocking an eyebrow and tossing their hair every other word. it’s annoying and it’s overused, not because they’re moving too much, but because nobody actually does that. rather than making your character repeat the same three actions on loop, spice things up! here are some helpful starting points
anger:
curling and uncurling fists
sharp exhales
rolling eyes
cracking neck
setting jaw
grinding teeth
pursing lips
boredom/impatience:
scratching neck/back
tapping or drumming fingers on something
tapping foot
changing position repeatedly, as if to get comfortable
leaning back
kicking feet or putting them up
looking around
nerves:
looking around but, like, different
hands in pockets
fidgeting with an object
biting lip, inside of cheek, or nails
tapping or drumming fingers on something
if this is helpful, i can expand the list, but i don’t see people struggling with physical displays of positive emotions as much as i do negative ones

“you can’t be serious. you’re still with him? you’re so blinded by his bullshit that you can’t see what an idiot you’re being! you know what? if you’re going to keep on ignoring how problematic he is and making excuses for him, just leave. i don’t want to be around you anymore.”
