12-10-20
So, I have coerced my husband into going outside with the kids, even though he’s supposed to be working. It’s 4:47, but Chad doesn’t ordinarily like to stop working until around 6. Because of the whole coronavirus situation, he’s started working from home two days a week. It’s no longer necessary for him to stay home now, in fact everyone in his small office has gone back, but his boss allows him…

41
I turn 41 tomorrow. Crazy. I figured I’d commemorate the occasion by using my WordPress, which I hardly ever use anymore. I don’t want to lie about my age or anything because I don’t think it’s anything to be ashamed of. Lying about your age when you’re past your twenties is like saying it’s a shameful secret. Whatever. This is how old I am. I don’t use WordPress that much because I’m always…

Tuesday
My dog bit a guy today, so this is really shaping up to be a great day. I’m being sarcastic, of course. Wouldn’t it be shitty if I weren’t? Whoa, a huge branch just fell off a tree in a neighbor’s yard. I saw it out the window. Timber! That must have been what all the yelling was about. Anyway, we have adopted a new dog. We had to put our former dog, Nola, to sleep at the beginning of December,…

Zeitgeist
Happy New Year!  I found this band I really like today called Horse Girl.  I listened and watched their video for “Anti-glory” and it hit a nerve with me.  I was thinking, holy shit, this is so good, these girls are so cool, I’ve got to share this, and then it will give me some of their cool, and let me be part of it, by liking it.  I immediately shared it in a text to a couple of my friends, and…

Babies/Kids on Planes
I was reading an article about this just now, and the woman who wrote it was being so kind and even-handed about it that I decided to go write something of my own about this issue. And I don’t feel like being kind and even handed. If you find yourself terribly annoyed by a crying baby on a plane 1. there’s almost no way you could be a parent, or at least not one who actually knows what it’s like…

Kafka, etc.
Yesterday I was driving home from Target with the kids, and I had to change lanes.  There was this guy behind me who was coming, but he was way behind so I figured I had time to move over.  The guy floored it.  What part of our monkey brains tells us not to let people over into our lanes?  Just the idea that the lane belongs to anyone is absurd.  I felt it was discourteous of the guy, to be…

Caterpillar Farming
I’m caterpillar farming right now.  I didn’t really plan to be a caterpillar farmer, but there you are.  It’s very exciting…to me.  A few years ago when we first moved in I planted some passionflower vines, the only type of vine the Gulf Fritillary butterfly will lay its eggs on and that the caterpillars will eat.  These vines grow wild and are native to Georgia.  I remember them growimg in…

Grievances
My kids have been out of school the past two weeks.  This week makes week 3.  Oh my gosh, I’m going to have to take this setting off Word.  I’m writing in Microsoft Word right now and they’ve put in that feature from e-mails and texts where (when makes more sense, but it sounds wrong) there’s some auto-fill thing anticipating what I’m going to type next, and it shows me what I might…

Nola
I have so much stuff to do that I don’t really know where to start. It’s giving me anxiety. Lately, I’ve been feeling like nothing is ever finished. It used to be, before I had children, I felt like I could finish things. There would be a point when the things I wanted to get done were done, and then I could relax. Now I’ve reached a point in my life where I just just have to accept that all the…

Cloning and Other Issues
Cloning and Other Issues
I figured I’d write on here because I’m feeling salty. That’s kind of a new term. What other words could I use for it? Pissy, irritable, bitchy. So I was thinking maybe this would cheer me somewhat, or help me work through it. I got my mom one of those genetic DNA tests for her 70th birthday this past October. I did the Ancestry one, but that one doesn’t specify the mother’s and father’s side. I…

Toe Story
So, the dog dropped a five pound weight on the big toe of my left foot and possibly broke it. This was Friday afternoon. I worked out on the elliptical in the basement and did some crunches and stuff, and Hannah and the dog were down there with me. I feel bad because I didn’t walk Nola all week. The weather was pretty cold and often wet, and I find it a lot harder to get myself outside when it’s…

Happy Holidays
Well, it’s that magical time of year, the Christmas Holidays. Christmas “vacation.” One thing that bums me out sometimes about being a mom is that it’s never really a vacation. Yeah, people without children can take vacations, go do uninterrupted site-seeing, hike for miles with no one whining that their legs are tired after a quarter of a mile or saying, “Carry me!” They can drink margaritas in…

A grey mist lies over everything today, the papery brown leaves coating the ground and continuing to flutter down from the trees.  The weather is very mild for December.  At 9:47am I can see in the corner of the computer screen that it is 57 degrees and cloud I’m feeling bummed this morning.  There’s just a sense of dryness and desolation within my soul, and I wish I knew of a remedy for it.  I…

Late July
There are some chips called Late July that are pretty good. Have you tried them? My favorite flavor is the lime. Also, it is late July so… We’re having two birthday parties for the kids this weekend since their birthdays are only 3 days apart. Their birthdays have actually already passed, but we were at the beach on the week of their actual birthdays, thus the belated birthday parties. I’m not…

Chick Flicks
I know lots of people lately have been using TV/movies as a means of escape.  Bound indoors by Covid restrictions, people have turned to the Tube.  My life was already sort of bound and constrained, even before this whole pandemic happened.  I mean, I’m a stay at home mom.  There’s not a lot of room for excitement in this job.  It’s a pretty homebound thing.  In over six and a half years, I’ve…

Not Tuna
Subway is in the midst of a lawsuit right now, about the substance of their tuna fish sub sandwiches. The lawsuit claims that Subway’s tuna salad sandwiches not only contain no actual tuna, but more interestingly, no fish. Apparently a couple from California sent samples from sandwiches at multiple locations to labs and no evidence of fish protein was found in them. Intriguing. What’s in them,…

Bye-bye Trumpie
Things with Donald Trump reached their inevitable conclusion last week.  His presidency is ending with violence.  Last Wednesday was a crazy day.  First it was becoming clear that Warnock and Ossoff won their senate races, which is amazing.  But I was feeling a lot of trepidation about the certification of the electoral college votes by the House and Senate.  I knew that was going to be a…
