AITA for taking care of my boss' horses?

So for context, I (M, 25) work at the circus near Nilmer's highlands. I mainly help out backstage but I have my own acts as well. Well, one of my tasks is to help the circus horses with daily care such as feeding, grooming and turnout.

Apparently, without my knowledge, my boss procured the current horses we have through illegal means (he kidnapped some local girls and transformed them into horses through magic) but like, I didn't know about it? So when some girls showed up to rescue them and wanted my boss to turn them back into humans, they were super mad at me for "imprisoning" them? But I didn't know they were people?

Idk it's a weird situation and my boss is a quirky guy, but as far as I go, I thought I did a good job of taking care of them when they were horses, so I really don't see why they have reason to complain. He freed them and was going to delete their memories, so no harm has been done, I guess, but I tried to tell my friend (F, 24) about it and she said what I did was horrible even though I wasn't responsible.

Am I the asshole?

I'm having some health issues and need to take a break and focus on myself for a bit. I sadly don't have the energy right now to be able to create and queue a week or two of news and weather.
