I don’t want to address this directly for a variety of reasons, mostly because I think the people who wrote/shared the reblogs were arguing in good faith, but as someone who struggles with mental illness, please don’t prattle on about how mental illness explains why a character who commits atrocities and is a terrible person behaves that way. Even if you’re not trying to use it as an excuse, just saying “they behaved that way because they’re mentally ill” has a whole mess of terrible implications like conflating mental illness with violent behavior and paints mentally ill people as dangerous.
