Contract
Joe Burrow x Reader
Joe and reader sign a dating contract
Tumblr media
“Should I even ask how you got in here?” You sigh, crossing your arms across your chest.
“Did you read this yet?” Joe hands a stack of papers to you.
“I saw it in my dressing room.”
“You didn’t answer my question.” He forces the papers towards you again.
“What is this?” You look up at him.
“Our dating contract.”
“Why is it pink?”
He rolls his eyes, “Someone left it in the copy machine and I didn’t know how to change it.”
Your contagious laughter fills the room. “Remind me why we’re doing this again?” You take the paper from his hands.
“Publicity.” He says, almost as if he’s asking a question. “Both of our managers agreed. It’ll be a good story line for the NFL, especially as I head into the play offs.”
“And I’ll benefit how?” You ask, flipping through the pages.
“Don’t you have a movie coming out or something?” He furrows his brows.
“No I live on this set full time.” You roll your eyes at his stupidity.
“They said it’ll bring more attention to you and the movie I guess.” He nervously paces across the room. “Can you just sign it so I can get out of here?”
“I’ll think about it.” You say with a smirk.
A few hours later your cuddled up on the couch with a glass of wine after a long day on set. The constant buzz from your phone pulls your attention ration away from the TV screen in front of you.
“What do you need?” Your voice is rough as you answer the phone.
“Did you check your schedule? We have another fake date planned for tonight.”
“A fake date.” Your lips curl at the idea.
“Correct. Party to celebrate making it to the play offs.” The line is quiet for a minute. “I’ll be there in 20 minutes to get you.”
“See you soon, babe.” You tease. If you’re going to be a fake couple, you better act like it.
“Wow.” Joe says as you climb into his car.
For the first time, you don’t sense a tone of disgust in his voice. “Not so bad yourself.” You pull your seatbelt across your lap and admire Joes outfit.
After a silent card ride to the private downtown party, you climb out of the car, cameras flashing and paparazzi yelling in your direction. Joe comes around to your side of the car and wraps an arm around your waste to pull you close. You feel your heart skip a beat and butterflies fill your stomach with a warm sensation. Joe leads you into the restaurant and towards his group of friends.
“You can let go now.” You try to pull away from his grip.
“We have to act like a couple.” He reminds you and pulls you back to him.
“Right.” You flash a fake smile.
Joe makes his rounds, introducing you to the rest of the team. For the first time, you felt like a normal person. People weren’t asking for pictures, or hounding you with questions about your next big role and security wasn’t needed. For the first time in a long time, you forgot you were a celebrity.
Drinks were flowing, the music was loud, and sweaty bodies continued to crash into each other. Taking advantage of the fact that you felt like an average person, you continued to let people bring you drinks.
You could feel Joe’s eyes on you all night. Everyone once in a while he’d come over and check in on you, his hands would find your hips and his eyes would lock on your. “Doing ok?” He brushed his sweaty hair off of his forehead, the curls falling back into place perfectly.
“Yeah. I hate to admit it but I’m having fun. I think I could get use to this.” You press your drink to your lips. “I feel free here.”
“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.” He smiled.
Joe really was a good guy. While you weren’t fond of the whole contract situation, you were glad it was him. It could be so much worse.
“Burrow!!” One of Joes teammates calls from across the bar before the handsome quarterback disappears back into the crowd.
You find yourself at the bar again, ordering another drink and slowly swaying to the music before you feel a hand pressed to the small of your back. You turn to meet a handsome, tall man.
“Hi.” You smile, the same butterflies you felt with Joe explode in your stomach again.
“Hey. I’m Sam. One of Burrows teammates.” He places his large hand out and shakes yours.
“Nice to meet you, Sam.” You smile, leaving your hand locked in his.
“So, how’d Joe get so lucky?”
You blush, looking down nervously. “You’re not so bad yourself.” You smile back at Sam.
Sam, much like Joe and the rest of the team, was very easy to talk to. You felt yourself getting lost in his eyes and laughing at all of his jokes.
Across the room, you can feel Joe staring at you. His eyes burning a hole in the back of Sam’s head. His jaw tightened when another silvery pearl of laughter over from the bar. You had been talking to Sam for the past several minutes. Not just talking, you were laughing and giggling like he was a comedian when Joe knew for a fact he wasn’t that damn funny. Irritation raged through his body as Sam leaned closer to you, causing you to laugh again. You’d never laughed that much with him. And he was your fake boyfriend.
Joe tried to pull your attention away from Sam multiple times. Now that you were finally able to relax and feel ‘free’ as you had told him before, you were flirting with Sam Hubbard.
Joe stormed over to you and Sam and practically ran Sam over. Up until this point, Sam had been one of his best friends but now he wanted to rip his hands off for touching you like that. Like you could possibly belong to Sam when you so clearly were dating Joe. Or fake dating that is, Joe thought to himself.
Sam’s eyebrows shot up as Joe stepped in front of him. “Excuse me.” Joe rudely interrupted, “I need a second with her.” He took you by the hand and led you to a quiet corner.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Joe stammered.
“I’m having fun.” You smiled back in Sam’s direction, his eyes were still locked on you. “I’m leaving with a guy at the end of the night.”
“Have you lost your mind?” His eyes go wide. “Do you remember what we’re doing here? You can’t leave with him!”
“You can’t stop me.”
Joe smiles suspiciously, “You’re right, you are leaving with a guy tonight. Me.”
You laughed. “No I’m not!” You slurred.
Joe leaned in close enough that you could taste the alcohol on his breath. “You have two options.” He whispered. “You can walk out of hand in hand with me, like an adult.” His leaned in closer if that was even possible, you could feel his lips as they whispered against yours. “Or I can carry you out of here over my shoulder. What will it be babe?” Your eyes meet his as he finally closes the gap between both of you.
Complying with his order, you take Joe by the hand, say your goodbyes, and leave the party. Outside you’re met by another crowd of rowdy photographers and fans.
“Stay close.” Joe leads you through the crowd.
As both of you had been drinking and were unable to drive, Joe ordered a car to pick you up. You climbed in quickly behind him, climbing into his lap and clinging to him as if he was your only sense of security.
“I know this is supposed to be fake, but I’ve been having a lot of fun with you. And it makes me so jealous to see having fun with other guys.” Joe slurs, his grip tightening around you. “I’ll give you anything you want if you give me the chance to make you happy. No more of this fake dating shit. I want you to be my girlfriend. I want to give it a shot with you. Take it or leave it because I’m not open to negotiations. You’re mine.” Joe crashes your lips together again.
“Only you could make asking me to be your girlfriend sound like a business deal.” You giggle.
“Please be my girlfriend.” He whispers, pressing his forehead to yours.
“I am.”
“My real girlfriend. No more contract. No more fake dates. No expectation.” He kisses you again. “Be mine.”

Joe Burrow x Reader
One of Joes friends flirts with you
Tumblr media
Joe walks into the bathroom, shirtless, and in a pair of black slacks. His muscles ripple across his abdomen, dipping down towards the top of his pants.
He holds up two button down shirts by the hanger. “White or blue?”
“Did you come in here just to show off your body?” You tease making eye contact with him in the mirror as you put on your lipstick.
A smirk crosses his face as his eyes gleam with pride. That’s exactly what he did. “I need your advice. White or blue?”
“White. I like you in the traditional black and white suit.” You smile.
“Blue it is.” He teases and flashes you a wink as he heads out of the bathroom.
You roll your eyes and continue to get ready. Tonight was the NFL Honors party. A ton of players from all different teams across the country would be gathering for the annual awards show to honor the seasons best players. Joe was up for a few awards, you expected he’d win at least one.
He’s comes back into the hotel bathroom a few minutes later looking sexier than ever. You wondered if he had any idea how hot he was.
“How’s it look?” He questioned, looking himself up and down and the mirror.
“Incredible.” You can’t take your eyes off of him. “Can you help me into my dress?” You ask, slipping off your robe and stepping into your long gown.
“You look stunning, baby.” He presses his lips to the back of your neck as he zips the dress.
You and Joe made your way to the party and spent the first hour talking with other players and Wags. There were only a handful of other players from the Bengals, so you took the chance to meet some of Joes competitors.
As Joe wandered off to chat with other players, you took the opportunity to sneak out to the bathroom. As you turned the corner to the quiet hallways, you run into a familiar face. As the only 2 Quarterbacks here tonight, Joe and Patrick Mahomes would be giving a speech together. You’d met Patrick a handful of times before at similar events. You always thought he was handsome, but unlike Joe, he was quite cocky.
“Hey Patrick.” You smiled and the quarterback reached out to embrace you in a hug.
“Hey Mrs. Burrow.” He greeted you. “Good to see you!” As you pulled away from the hug Patrick’s hand lingered over yours.
“Not Mrs. Burrow quite yet.” You laughed, flashing your engagement ring on the other hand. “Good to see you too! Is Brittney here?” You asked.
“No she couldn’t make it. Lots going at home with the kids.” He took a step closer to you, if that was even possible. His hand left yours and found its way to your hip. His fingers lightly danced across your hip bone. “You look beautiful.” He is close enough now that his breath coats your lips. “Joe wouldn’t mind if we caught up for a bit, would he?”
“Has anyone ever been able to tell you no before?” You ask in a whisper.
“Never.”
“Well I guess there’s a first time for everything.”
His forehead crumpled as his face fell into a frown and he blinked down at you. “What?” His hand slips from your hip.
“Enjoy your night.” Your turn to make your way back to the party. As you scan the room your eyes immediately lock with Joes who has just witnessed this whole incident.
He storms over to you and nearly ran over Patrick on his way. Up until this moment, Patrick had been one of Joe’s idols, but he wanted to gouge his eyes at for looking at you like that. Like you could possibly be his when you so clearly belonged to Joe. Hadn’t Patrick even referred to you as ‘Mrs. Burrow’ a moment before?
Patrick’s eyebrows shot up when he noticed Joe approaching.
“Baby, why don’t you go find our table.” Joe places his hand on the small of your back and guides you towards the room.
Joe had two crystal glasses in his hand and forced one towards Patrick. “Hey, Man.” He greeted his competitor. “Before our speech I have one question.”
You could see Patrick’s shoulders visibly fall, thinking he wasn’t going to get in trouble for flirting with you.
“When you touched my fiancé just now, which hand did you use?” Joe asked, his voice full of anger. “Your throwing hand?”
Patrick froze. “What - I -“
“My finance.” Joe took a step closer to Patrick. “Long blonde hair, black dress. The most beautiful woman at the event.” Joe pressed his drink to his lips.
“I - I -“ Patrick’s stuttered response stood no chance against Joe.
“I don’t want to see you near her again. In fact, when we sit down, you better not even look at her.”
Joe turned on his heels and made his way back into the room to find you.
Familiar hands find your shoulders and a kiss is planted on top of your head.
“I’m sorry, baby.” Joe takes a seat at the table next to you. “This will be the last time I agree to work with him.”
“It’s okay, Joey. It’s not your fault.”
“I refuse to work with someone who treats people with disrespect and behaves that way in public. I put him in his place, and if I had the choice, I’d do it all over again. He’s a jackass, and I love you. You’re mine. All mine. Mine. Mine. Mine.” Joe gives you a reassuring smile.
Players begin to take their seats and you both see Patrick making his way to your table.
“I’ll see if we can move tables.” You start to slide your chair out.
Joe grabs your hand to stop you. “It’s fine.”
“Are you sure? You did try to fight him less than ten minutes ago.”
“And I’d do it all over again if I saw someone touch you like that. Let’s make him jealous and rub it in his face.” Joe gives you a smirk and wink.

Pathetic
Joe Burrow x Reader
Joe and reader see each other again years later
Tumblr media
“Well thanks, Michelle! It was good to see you.” You smile and grab your bag from the older ladies hands. “I’m glad we caught up on the Athens, Ohio drama.” You laughed.
“Good to see you too. Don’t wait 5 years before you come back next time!” She called after you.
You were back in your home town, Athens, OH for the weekend dealing with a family dilemma. Athens was a small town, it really only had 2 main roads, both lines with gas stations, locally owned shops, and a few hotels. You grew up shopping at this same grocery store. Michelle had worked here since you were little and she recognized you the second you walked in. It was great to catch up with an old friend, but you were ready to escape this little town. You had stopped to grab a few things before heading to the hotel across the street for the night.
With another quick smile and wave, you pressed your back against the door to open it before it was quickly pulled away from you, causing you to lose your balance and almost fall backwards.
“Shit. Sorry!” Familiar hands reached up and helped steady you.
“Its ok.” You turned and were immediately frozen in shock. “Joe.” You gasped.
“What… oh my go—“ he nervously fiddled with his hands. “Hey.” He greeted you, clearly caught off guard. “What are you doing here?”
“Family stuff.” You nervously spit out. “What about you? Don’t you have practice or something?” You questioned.
“Bye week. Came home to support the local football team in play offs.” He put his hands in his pockets. “Are you staying at your parents?”
“No. Actually have a room at the hotel across the street.” You nodded your head in that direction. “I know it’s not the fanciest but it has a bed, and TV, and AC..” you nervously blabber. “Actually was just headed back to grab a drink and some dinner.”
Joe turned to look at the hotel before his eyes met yours again. “I’ll walk you over there.”
“Joe.” You laughed. “It’s literally 50 feet away. I’ll be fine.”
“I know… I just… would you… do you wanna catch up? Let me buy you a drink. It’s been what? 5 years since we’ve seen each other?” His eyes anxiously look around.
“Yeah sure.” You smile. “We probably have some catching up to do.”
You and Joe had dated for 4 years before you both left for colleges across the country from each other. He was now an NFL Quarterback and you were a wedding photographer. The breakup was messy, neither of you really got closure, and you hadn’t spoken since.
You followed Joe across the street and slid into the booth across from him. The room was dimly lit, the table sticky with booze, and the waitress was nosy. It was clear she recognized Joe, but he gave her one look after she dropped off your first round of drinks and made it clear she wouldn’t bother you both.
“So.” He cleared his throat. “How have you been? What’re you up to these days.”
You pressed your glass of wine to your lips and took a sip. “I’ve been good. Super busy. Started my own wedding photography business and basically spend all my time editing pictures.”
“Wow.” His eyes were wide. “Congratulations. I know that was always your dream.”
“Speaking of dreams, congrats to you Mr. Quarterback.” You teased.
He laughed and took a drink, shaking his head. “Yeah. It’s been a crazy ride.” A smile spread across his face. If there was one thing you still admired about Joe it was how humble he was. He’s graduated college less than a year ago and was already leading an NFL team to victory. “So, do you have a husband? Boyfriend?” He paused. “Girlfriend? Significant other?”
You laughed. “No, just me right now.” Your cheeks turned bright red. “Are you seeing someone?”
“Yeah.” He flashed the gold band on his ring finger. “Got married last year, just welcomed our first little one a few months ago.”
“Holy cow!” Your heart was crushed. “Congrats!” You faked a smiled and motioned to the waitress another round of drinks was needed. “Tell me about them!” You really didn’t want more details, but were just trying to be nice.
“My wife”, he flipped his phone around and his Lock Screen lit up, flashing a perfect picture of his beautiful wife and precious baby, “is truly superwomen. She’s taken on the roll of mom and NFL wife without an issue.” He smiled. “And baby Scarlett is just perfect.”
“You have a beautiful family.” You admitted. “Are they here with you?”
“No, just me. Hard to travel with a new born.” He looked at his phone again. “Actually if you don’t mind, I’m gonna go call them quick and say goodnight?” You nodded and he excused himself from the table.
You quickly finished your second glass of wine. Not sure if your face was hot from the alcohol or because you were holding back so many emotions. 5 years ago there was no doubt in your mind you would be Joes wife. But here you are, in a stuffy hotel bar single and talking about his newborn.
“Can I actually just buy a bottle?” You questioned as the waitress made her way around again. “And he’ll take another as well.” You motioned to Joes empty cup as she made her way back behind the bar to get your request.
Your face was buried in your phone as you googled Joe and his wife.
“Ordered me another I see.” Joe smirked as he sat back down across from you.
You quickly stashed your phone back in your purse. “I figured you’d be game for another round.” You laughed.
You and Joe spent the next few hours catching up, sharing drinks, and laughing about all of your old memories. The bar would be closing soon and you needed to get to bed, you had a long drive ahead of you tomorrow.
“I’ll walk you to your room.” Joe helped you from your seat, both of you stumbling and extremely tipsy.
“Thanks, Joe.” You slurred and took his hand.
You slipped your way into the elevator and up to the 7th floor before leading Joe down the hallway to your room. “Here it is.” You turned to him.
Joe grabs you around the waist, his hands shaking as though he might break you.
“Do you want to come in?” You whisper, your eyes locked on his.
He nods, his fingers still trembling and locked in your hips.
“You know I’m not going to break, right? I’m not as delicate as you think I am.” You giggle.
“I still feel like I’m going to break you.” His grip loosens even more. “I can’t believe I’m doing this. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d be back here and-“
You place a finger to his lip, silencing him. “Kiss me.” You whisper.
Joe crashes your lips together. His hands hungrily tracing every inch of your body. He lifts you up and without hesitation you wrap your legs around his hips, falling onto him as he sits on the edge of the bed before laying back.
You spend the rest of the night tangled up with Joe, his lips attacking yours.
“You ever think about us?” Joe asks after your long night. Your both laying in bed as the sun peaks through the curtains.
“Of course I do.” You answer, your voice horse and your lips swollen. “I think a lot about how timing is everything. We had the love, we had the whole universe. We just weren’t ready for each other.”
You both look at each other. And just like back then, there is so much love in your eyes. And somehow, the timing is still not right. And it seems that’s how things will always be for you and Joe, your timing will always be a little off.
“I think you need to go.” You clear your throat and break the stare between you two.
“What do you mean?” Joe pulls you into him.
“This isn’t right. We both know that. I really think you need to go. You have a wife and a family Joe. This isn’t fair.”
“What’s not fair,” he says, rolling away from you and throwing the comforter off of his body, “is that your about of put your clothes on and force me to leave this room.” He stands from the bed. “And I don’t know why.”
You stare at him, eyes wide and nervous. “Joe.” You say softly. “This isn’t right. You have to go. You need to.”
He plants a kiss on your cheek. “I still believe we’ll get our second chance. Somehow, someway we’ll find each other again. It’s pathetic, really, how much I still hope it’s you and me in the end.”

Joe stands up for you after fans are rude
Tumblr media
You knew by dating Joe, your relationship would be under a constant microscope. You swore up and down you wouldn’t let the negative comments get to you, but it’s hard.
With a fake smile plastered across your face, and your cheeks heated up in embarrassment, you stand on your tip toes to reach Joes ear.
“I’ll meet you at the car.” You whisper and turn to escape the crowd of adoring fans, making your way towards your car.
The bengals had won another game, and you and Joe were out to dinner to celebrate. What you expected to be a quiet night quickly escalated after your location was leaked.
“Sorry about that.” Joe climbs in the car and places a hand on your thigh.”
“S’ok.” You murmur, keeping your head towards your window.
“Everything ok?”
“Yeah.” You sigh.
Joe places a hand on your cheek and turns your face to meet his. “You’ve been crying.” He frowns. “What’s wrong?”
“Those girls.” You sob. “They were calling me horrible names and being so rude and I tried to not let it get to me but it’s so embarrassing and-“
“What did they call you?” Joe interrupts, you can hear the anger in his voice.
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Tell me. Now. We aren’t moving from this spot until you answer me.” His voice is stern.
“A whore. Annoying. Gold digger.” You started to list off.
Joe flung the car door open and marched his way back to the group. Not stopping until he was standing in front of the “fans”.
“Now.” He sneered, glaring at them, his blood boiling. “Who wants to call my girlfriend a whore to my face?”
Several heads turned his way and fans sulked backwards, afraid of what he might say next. He did not care, someone was going to pay for your pain. The crowd quickly dissipated and Joe made his way back to the car confident he had gotten his point across.
“Do you know how strong and resilient you are?” His voice was soft. “I can’t imagine going through what you just went through and getting back up again.” His voice cracked, it sounded as though he might start crying. “I know that had to have fucked with your head. No matter what’s thrown your way, you always dust yourself off and keep going. I admire that about you.”
A tear slips down your cheek as your eyes meet Joes. “Thank you for standing up for me.”
“Of course. I’m so sorry.”
“You don’t need to be.” You assure him. “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“Yeah but I’m still sorry.” He reaches up and tucks a curl behind your ear. “For how it has to be and how hard it is to be with me. I know it’s not easy. I know I’m not giving you a normal relationship.”
“I don’t want normal.” You reply. “I only want you.”
Joe leans over the center console and places a kiss on your lips. “And I only want you too.” He kisses you again. “No matter how difficult it gets. Or how hard the world tries to tear us apart, I’ll be yours.”

Joe Burrow x Reader
You’re a single mom and Joe spends the day with you
Tumblr media
“You really do this every day?” Joe asks, barely able to keep his eyes open as your toddler is snuggled on his lap.
“Day in and day out.” You laugh. “And we still have 2 hours until bed time.”
His eyes fly open as his head quickly turns in your direction. “What?”
You laugh at his expression. “I’m kidding. It’s actually about bed time right now. I was thinking once I lay her down maybe you’d like to stay and watch a movie?” You ask, rising from the couch and reaching out your arms for your daughter.
“Absolutely.” A look of relief crosses his face as he stands up to pass over the toddler. “Goodnight, sweetheart.” He pulls her in for a quick embrace before handing her to you.
“Can you tell Joey goodnight?” You ask, as she snuggles her head into your neck and rubs her eyes. She gives Joe a sheepish smile as you head towards her bedroom.
You had been dating Joe for quite a while now. As a single mom, you were very weary of introducing your now 20 month old little girl to a guy. But through the months and months of dating, Joe has proved, he was serious about you and even more serious about meeting your daughter. You had decided today was the day. Joe had spent the whole day at your house, helping with the baby and experiencing what it’s like to be a parent.
“I didn’t think it was possible to love you more than I already did.” Joes sleepy gaze meets yours as you make your way back out to the living room. “I love seeing this side of you.” He outstretches his arms to pull you into him as you take a seat next to him on the couch.
“So she didn’t scare you off then?” You rest your head on his chest.
He laughs. “She’s an angel.” He kisses your forehead. “And you are a superhero.”
“That is far from the truth.”
“What makes you say that?”
“I’m not a perfect mom. I lose my patience. I make a lot of mistakes. We barely survive most days.” You sigh.
“Humans aren’t meant to raise other humans alone. It’s you and you alone that make her world spin.” He reminds you, bringing a smile to your face. “I hope you know how important you are.”
Your eyes meet his and you crash your lips together. Joe always knows the perfect thing to say at the perfect time. Most days were stressful, and you found yourself jealous of your friends that had no kids, or your friends who had a partner to help out. But he had confidence in you, and that made you feel so much better.
“I’m making you a promise right now.” He breaks the kiss. “Never again. You’ll never be alone again. No matter how hard things get, I’m always going to be right here.”

Joe Burrow x Reader
You get jealous of fans
Tumblr media
A crowd of adoring and cheering fans greet you and Joe as you make your way out of the stadium after the game.
It’s obvious Joe is the most handsome of all the quarterbacks in the NFL, and the girls in this crowd make it clear. You’re quickly shoved to the side as they swarm Joe to take selfies and get signatures.
They swoon at every word he says. Most of it normal things. Football, the weather, the final score. There really is no reason for you to be so hung up on their conversations. You’re simply curious as to what they’re saying that’s so funny. Joe has had the same smile plastered across his face and you can hear his continuous laughter. Last time you checked, there was nothing that funny about football, the weather, or the score of the game.
After a few minutes of meeting fans, Joe excuses himself to come find you so you can go home.
“Ready?” He smiles at you and grabs you by the hand to lead you to the car.
You nod in response.
The drive home was mostly quiet. Joe tried to engage you in conversation, but all of his efforts fell short.
“What’s wrong?” He asks, as he pulls into the driveway.
“Nothing.” You unbuckle and climb out of the car heading inside.
“Baby.” He grabs you by the wrist, stopping you in your tracks. “Tell me what’s going on.”
You sighed. “I don’t like it when you talk to other girls.” You mumble under your breath. “Especially ones that are clearly flirting with you. It’s rude and disrespectful and -“
“Makes you jealous.” He finishes your sentence. You feel like smacking that stupid grin off of his face.
“This isn’t funny.” You attempt to pull away from him.
This causes him to only pull you closer and hold you tighter. He brings his other hand into play, placing them both on each side of your waste, backing you against the wall. Soon you have all 6’4” 215 pounds of handsome quarterback pinning you in place.
“You have nothing to be jealous of.” His voice serious and husky. “All those girls who came over to us? I don’t even remember what they look like. I don’t remember the conversations I had with them. You’re the only one I see and the only one I care about.” He presses his lips to yours. “Understand?”
You nod in agreement. “I’m just scared that one day you’ll decide you can do better. And you’ll meet someone more special.”
He laughs. “That will never happen. I think it’s obvious, but incase it’s not, you’re mine.” He kisses you again. “I don’t want to see other women, and I sure as fuck don’t want you to see other men. You belong with me. Exclusively. There’s not a world where that’s not the case.”

Joe Burrow x Reader
Reader has a big surprise for Joe
Tumblr media
You’d been looking forward to Joe coming home all week. He’d only been gone for four days but it had felt like a lifetime. Typically, you’d travel to away games with him. But since finding out you were pregnant, you both agreed it was in your best interest to stay home for multiple reasons. 1. To avoid any sickness 2. To be close to your doctor at all times and 3. Because you had yet to announce it to the public and were starting to show. The last thing you wanted was people speculating, starting rumors, and causing any distraction to Joe’s season. The baby would be born in early spring, after football season, and you both agreed that would be the best time to announce it. You had always had a very private relationship and liked it that way.
You had an ultrasound earlier this week and were excited to surprise Joe with the new picture. Although it was still early and there wasn’t much to see, you knew it would be a fun surprise.
After what felt like an eternity of pacing by the front door, Joe pulled up and rushed inside.
“I missed you so much.” He said between kisses.
“Congrats on the win, Joey. I missed you too. Watching the game from home isn’t the same.”
“I know. I’m sorry. But it’s best for all three of us.” He smiles and places a hand on your belly. “Now I’m going to go shower and then I want to hear all about your appointment.”
“Deal!” You smiled and raced up the stairs behind him.
Joe slides under the comforter after his shower and pulls you close, both of you staring up at the ceiling as the smell of his body wash surrounds you. You roll onto your side and pull the new ultrasound picture from the top drawer of your nightstand.
“Here’s our little football team.” You hand the picture to Joe and roll onto your stomach, propping your face up with your hands.
He smiles at the picture. “Football team?” He questions.
“Yeah.” You smile.
“I thought we only agreed to one? That’s not enough for a football team.” He laughs.
“What if that weren’t the case?”
“What’re you suggesting?”
You pause, taking a deep breathe. “We’re having twins, Joey.”
He freezes and continues to stare at the picture in his hand.
“Now would be a good time for you to say something.” You anxiously croak out.
He continues in his frozen state of shock. His always confident wife was feeling nervous and vulnerable. Pregnant. Babies. Twins. He finally let out a breath before closing the distance between the two of you and kissed you fiercely.
Eventually, you’d have to share this moment with family and friends, but for now, you enjoyed the secret together.
Joe crawls down in the bed, becoming eye level with your stomach. “I love you Baby Burrows.” He kisses your stomach. You could melt from the cuteness. “I know I’m going to have my hands full with the two of you, but you’ll be worth it. I can guarantee it.”

Joe dates Coach Taylors daughter
Tumblr media
“Morning, baby.” A familiar voice calls from behind you, causing you to jump and spill the cup of coffee you had just poured.
“Joe!” You called out in surprise, setting down the cup and grabbing a towel. “You know you’re not supposed to be here! What are you doing?” You question, nervously looking around.
“You dad was still in a meeting after practice wrapped up, so I knew I could beat him here.” He smiles and walks across the kitchen to meet you. “I wanted to see you.”
“Joey.” You hesitantly wine, locking eyes with him.
“Relax.” His smile instantly calms your nerves.
You and Joe had been seeing each other for a few months now. But your dad, who was the head coach of the Bengals, was not thrilled about it at all. He wants you to be with someone smart and successful. Joe is both of those things, and if anyone knows it, it’s your dad. Joe just has an abnormal career.
“He’s going to be home any-“
Joe presses a kiss to your temple, cutting you off. His lips trail down the side of your face and across your cheek until he was just at the corner of your lips.
You had to feel his lips on yours before it was too late. He seemed surprised when you crashed your lips together, but soon was kissing you like his life depended on it.
Your hands glide across his toned chest and abs. You couldn’t get enough of touching him, and he must have felt the same way. Within the next breath, he had picked you up, your legs wrapped around his waist, causing your ankles to connect behind his back. You didn’t realize he was walking until your back was pressed against the wall. You couldn’t get enough. You could feel his hands flex as he grabbed your thighs. It was like you were in your own little bubble.
… which burst when someone cleared their throat.
“What is going on here?”
Joe immediately sets you down, your feet hitting the ground with a loud thud.
“I’ve told you both,” your dad points between you and Joe, “that this is over.” His voice is stern.
“Dad I-“
Joe cuts you off again. “It’s my fault coach.”
“I don’t care whose fault it is. It’s done.”
You both knew it was way too late for him to try and change your minds.
“I’ll go. But let me just say one thing first.” Joe says to your dad. “I want to be the kind of man who is worthy of your daughter, if that’s even possible. She makes me so happy in a way that I don’t even want to blink just incase it all disappears.” The vulnerability of his words tug at your heartstrings. “I promise to work every damn day to make her happy and take care of her. I’ll give you anything you want as long as you give me a chance to prove it.” He clears his throat before he continues. “I’m not sure of much. But I’m so sure that I love her. That isn’t something I want to give up on. I won’t give up on this.” He looks to your dad for approval.
You noticed a tiny almost appreciative smile creep across your dads face. “I’ve never seen you so dedicated or worked up over something that wasn’t football.”

You and Joe meet in a coffee shop
Tumblr media
“Latte for Joe!” The barista calls across the busy coffee shop.
“Thanks.” He grabs the drink and turns to sit at a table. He brought his notebook with him, hoping to study some new plays for the game this week.
As he turns to take a seat, he sees you out of the corner of his eye and is caught off guard. Your level of beauty is like something he’s never seen before.
Except he has seen it. In this same spot. Multiple times. And maybe that’s the reason he chose to study here. Because he hopes one day you’ll see him too.
This was Joes third time here this week. He soaked up every minute of watching you work on your laptop at the same table, in the same corner, under the same window. He’d come to find the high maintenance, socialite aspect of your personality adorable. You owned it. You weren’t apologetic about hating working a typical 9-5 job and loving overpriced coffee. Every time you cringed about another email, or rolled your eyes after talking to your boss, he wanted to come over and shut the lid of your laptop and let you know he would take care of you. He wanted to spoil you. Badly.
It was obvious that this coffee shop was to busy and loud to work in. But you still showed up every day and got your work done. You loved routine. And loved the familiarity of sitting in the same spot every day.
“Hey.” A voice broke your routine.
You looked up. “Hey.” You said puzzled.
“I’m Joe.” He stuck out his hand.
“Nice to meet you.” You shook his hand cautiously, unsure why this handsome stranger was interrupting your work day.
“I know we just met, but I’d love to take you out sometime.” Joe said confidently.
“Okay. Umm…” you forced yourself to stop wondering why he was talking to you and tried to visualize your schedule.
“How about Wednesday?”
You pulled open your calendar app. It was so full of colorful boxes, causing you to feel a surge of anxiety. “It works before 11 AM and after 4 PM.”
“Six?” He asked, amazed with his own confidence.
“Six works.”
“Okay.” He waited for you to type it in. “Aren’t you going to add it to your calendar?”
“I’ll remember.” You smiles at him.
“Okay then.” He smiled back. “Wednesday it is.”

Girl Dad
Joe Burrow x Reader
Joe takes his daughter to practice
Tumblr media
9 days after entering the world, your daughter made her first Bengals practice debut. Since then, she’s spent most of her Sundays there as well. That is truly a right that comes with being the quarterbacks daughter.
Joe was the best dad. Even before she was born her catered to your every need. He continues to jump at her every whim.
“You ready to go, baby girl?” He asks, pulling into the facility parking lot. You had to travel for a work emergency with no notice, leaving Joe in charge for the day. “C’mon.” He pulls her from the car and slung the diaper bag over his shoulder, heading inside.
The sound of loud conversation and even louder music can be heard from the locker room as Joe makes his way down the hallway. Appearing around the corner with the small baby in his arms, everyone gasps. The locker room turned into a silent dead zone.
Usually there’s a strict no girls allowed rule in the locker room, but today the team would make an exception.
“Mama had to leave town, so we’re adding another player to the roster for the day.” Joe jokes with the team.
It was the day after a game so there wouldn’t be much practicing going on. Just watching film, talking about the upcoming game, and going over plays.
“Hi sweetie.” Ja’Marr takes the baby from Joes arms, giving him a chance to tuck the diaper bag into his locker and slip out of his coat.
“She loves her uncle Ja’Marr.” Joe admires his friends playfulness with his daughter.
“But she loves her Uncle Sam more!” Sam interrupted the conversation, taking your daughters tiny hand into his big one and cooing at her.
The guys filtered into the film room, finding a spot to take a seat so they could start the days meetings.
Your daughter was mostly content sitting on Joes lap. He bounced her on his knee and intently watched the screen in front of him. Almost as if she knew what was coming, she let out a loud shriek just as the team rewatched a play of Joe taking a hard hit.
“That’s what I’m saying too.” Joe laughs in response before quickly excusing himself from the room.
The training room was empty with the exception of two. Joe cradled his daughter in his arms, lightly bouncing her as he fed her a bottle. “This is where daddy works out.” He gives her a tour of the room. “So he can stay strong and healthy and take care of you for a long, long time.” He admires the tiny girl in his arms.
Soon enough, she’s drifted off to sleep in his arms. The bottle replaced with a binky which is bouncing up and down as she sucks on it in her sleep and a pink blanket wrapped around her.
Joe makes his way back into the room with the rest of the team. He presses a finger to his lips, motioning for the rest of the team to be quiet.
In that moment, he feels like a true winner, cradling his most prized possession, the best trophy ever, in his arms.

Weakness
Joe Burrow x Reader
You and Joe have your first date
Tumblr media
“Can you take a look at my quad?” A familiar voice asks, breaking the silence in the room.
You looked up from your desk and sighed. “I’m working on real therapy plans for players that are actually hurt.” You scoffed.
“How do you know I’m not hurt?” He smirked.
“Because this is the third time you’ve been in here today. And you’ve complained of a different injury each time.” You rolled your eyes.
“This one could be real. Aren’t you even gonna ask me what happened to my leg?” He asks, pulling his shorts up to expose his muscular thigh.
Being the trainer for the Bengals had its perks. You focused your attention back on your computer, doing your best to not stare at the gorgeous man in front of you. “Fine then,” you laughed. “How did you hurt yourself, Joe?”
“Well you see,” he climbed up on the training table next to your desk. “What happened was, I was opening my locker after practice, and the corner of it caught my thigh and gave me a nice cut.”
You turn your head in his direction, doing your best to find a cut along his leg. “I don’t see anything.”
“You’re not even looking.” He whined.
“That’s because I’m working.” You turned your attention back to the computer.
Joe continues trying to get your attention and convince you all 3 of his injuries that he complained of were real.
“Are you even listening?” He asks. You keep focusing on your work. “Fine then, how about a date?” He asks.
That gets your attention. Your sit straight up and turn your head towards him. “What?”
“Ah. Now I’ve got your attention.” He smirks. “What’re you doing tonight?” He asks.
“Ummm.” You stammer, caught off guard.
“Come over to my place, let’s make dinner and hang out.” He climbs off the table. “Does 6 sound good?”
“Yeah…” you nod. “Yeah, that works.”
“See you soon.” He flashes a beautiful smile your way as he walks out of the room.
A few hours later you find yourself knocking on Joes front door.
“Hey.” He smiles and wraps you in a hug. “Come in.”
His house is stunning and way more put together than you imagined. You figured it would be lined with trophies, football jerseys, and sports memorabilia. But it’s not. It’s clean and nicely decorated.
“You ok with Pasta?” He asks, dragging your attention away from his house and back to him.
“Sounds perfect.” You smile and follow him to the kitchen.
It was hard to imagine things being normal at practice on Monday while cooking in the kitchen with Joe. You found yourself starting to like him the more you got to know him. He made you laugh, he was a good story teller, and very personable.
Your long hair was tied in a loose braid over your shoulder. You were barefoot and in leggings and an oversized sweater, absently stirring the pasta sauce with one hand while watching Joe open a bottle of wine next to you.
After pouring you a glass, Joe came over and rested his chin on the top of your head, his arms looped around your waste. In these quiet moments he continually had to stop himself from kissing you.
After dinner, Joe asks you to stay for a movie. You follow him over to the couch before flopping down next to him.
“Thanks for dinner.” You smile.
“Thanks for helping me make it.” He slings an arm around your shoulder and leans in to kiss your cheek. It feels so natural.
He pulls away and lightly strokes your cheek bone.
“What’re you doing?” You can’t help but smile as you look over at him.
“Thinking about how bad I want to kiss you.” He pulls you onto his lap. “So I’m thinking I might do that right now.”
He slides his arms around your waste as your lips are locked together. He’s kissing you like he wants to keep you. And you think you want that too.
“I hate how much I want you.” He pulls back, breathless from the kiss. “It’s a weakness.”
“Then I guess it’ll be a weakness we share.”

Joe Burrow x reader
You and Joe become parents
Tumblr media
“Burrow!” Coach Taylor hollers across the practice field, trying to get the quarterbacks attention. As Joe looks up he waves him over.
He pulls his helmet off, sweaty hair sticking to his forehead. “What’s up, coach?” He asks, trying to catch his breathe.
“Your wife is in labor. She’s on her way to the hospital right now.” He urgently spits out.
“Shit.” Joes eyes open wide. “I gotta go!” He takes off towards the locker room to quickly change and head to the hospital.
Across the city, you’ve changed into your hospital gown and are getting hooked up to the IVs. Your lurch forward as a contraction ripples through you. “Is Joe almost here?” You ask, out of breath.
“The receptionist said he’s on his way.” The nurse assures you, helping you get comfortable in the hospital bed.
“Is he going to miss it?” You ask nervously, feeling the urge to push.
“We’ve still got time.” She smiles at you.
Moments later the door bursts open. “I’m here!” Joe rushes to your side, kissing you on the forehead.
“Oh thank goodness.” You call out in pain as you see his familiar face.
“Are you guys ready to have a baby now?” The doctor asks, taking position at the end of the bed.
The next bit of time is a blur and full of pain. Joe is there to comfort you, continuously telling you how good you’re doing and how proud he is of you. A sudden loud cry rings over the room, a nurse sweeps your baby out of sight so fast. They’re just cleaning her off and weighing her while the doctor discreetly finishes taking care of you.
“6 pounds, 2 ounces. A beautiful baby girl.” The nurse calls over the room as she gently places the baby in your arms.
Your heart expands to triple its size. “She’s perfect.” You whisper, staring down at your new baby.
She is. She’s so perfect Joe is nearly in tears. He can’t take his eyes off her tiny face, or the tuft of dark hair on top of her head. She’s no longer crying and looks up at you both with big dark eyes.
“You did so good, baby.” Joe pressed another kiss to your forehead, gently stroking your baby girls face.
You look up at him with a wide smile. “We did good.”
Hours later your laying in the hospital bed, Joe snuggled up in a chair next to you. Both of you exhausted and emotional.
Joe breaks the silence in the room, “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” You smile at him.
Before he can lean over to kiss you, a loud cry erupts through the room.
“And that.” You laugh. “Is the best thing to happen to either one of us.”

Joe has a panic attack before a game
Tumblr media
It’s finally time. The first home game of the season. Soon the stadium would be filled with disorderly fans, the comforting smell of stadium food, and rowdy players fighting their way to a win. But now, it stood quiet. Fans slowly filter their way through the team shop as a handful of players take the field to warm up.
Your eyes scan the field looking for your boyfriend Joe. As quarterback, he’s never missed a chance to warm up. Weather he’s practicing the motions of throwing the ball, stretching, or just taking a walk down the field, he’s always out there. Your heart rate picks up a little when you can’t find him.
“Maybe he’s taking a new approach this season.” You quietly mumbled to yourself, keeping your eyes on the field.
Although you were trying to be positive, the worst thoughts begin to run through your mind. Did he get hurt? He was fighting through a minor knee injury. Is he sick? Is he even here at the stadium?
As nerves run through you, you decide to head down to the family and friends area outside the locker room. Hopefully you’ll see Joe, or at least a team member who can assure you every things ok.
As you turn the corner, your eyes meet a familiar face.
“Joey!” You rush to him, throwing your arms around his neck. He’s leaned up against the wall, head down. As you press your head to his chest, you can hear his heart racing. “Are you okay?” You pull back, your eyes meeting his. His face is pale, he truly looks helpless and exhausted.
“I….I….I’m.” He chokes out, unable to catch his breath.
“You’re having a panic attack.” You grab both of his hands. “Focus on me. Let’s take some deep breaths.”
His eyes study your face, trying to copy the slow breathes your taking. His hands are shaking in yours.
“What’s got you so worked up, Joey?”
“There’s so many people relying on me to win. This way we play today can really affect the rest of our season. I’m scared of letting everyone down.” His eyes are threatening to spill over like the ocean.
If there’s one thing you knew about Joe, it’s that he was not good about talking about his feelings or emotions. He kept everything deep inside of him under lock and key.
Every aspect of playing in the NFL has gotten to him. “You are doing your best and you’re doing enough. Everyone knows that.” You do your best to assure him. “I know there’s a lot of pressure riding on you today. But I also know if there’s anyone that can pull off a win, it’s you.” You see a slight smile creep across his face. “You just need to believe in yourself and in your team.”
You pull him down close to you so you’re face to face and press your lips to his. “That’s for good luck.” You wink.
Not ready to let go, you hold him close and continue to tell him how proud you are.
He places a kiss on the top of your head. “This right here could heal me of anything.”

Broken
Joe Burrow x Reader
Joe helps reader through a break up
Tumblr media
“I need your help.” You sobbed into the phone, barely audible between the hiccups and cries.
“What’s going on?” A panicked Joe asks. “Are you ok?”
“Can you come over?” You slur into the phone.
“I’ll head that way right now. Do you want to stay on the phone with me while I drive?” He asks, his voice full of concern.
“No, I’m ok.” You lie.
“You don’t sound ok.”
“Please just come over, I need you.”
Joe was the kind of guy you could always depend on. He would drop what ever he was doing to help in any way he could. Out of habit, you drunkenly dialed him. Even though you’d been broken up for 6 months, he’s still the type of guy to do anything for you.
“Are you in there?” A familiar voice asked, causing you to jump. You didn’t know anyone was here.
“Yeah.” You cried. “You can come in.”
Joe walked into the room to find you on the floor, a crying and drunken mess.
“What’s going on?” He took a seat on the ground next to you, placing his arm on the small of your back, rubbing light circles.
“He cheated on me.” You sobbed, barely able to get the words out.
“That fucking asshole.” Joe growled.
“I’ve been sitting here cluelessly bragging to everyone about how great he is, and he’s out there kissing other girls, not even giving a fuck about me.” You broke down, your body violently shaking as you cried.
“I’m so sorry.” Joe continued to repeat those 3 words, sounding like a broken record player.
Strangled sobs continue falling from your mouth as you attempt to break free from Joes grip. As much as you needed someone right now, you knew this wasn’t right. His arms tighten around your waste as he pulls you back into him. You bury your face in his shoulder, soaking his t shirt with salty tears.
“It breaks my heart to see you like this.”
You try to stop, but the emotions keep coming. You gulp for air as he continues to make soothing noises, with hopes you’ll calm down.
“I’m broken.” Your voice is muffled against his shoulder.
“You’re not broken, baby.” Joe promises.
Without another thought, you lean in and press your lips to Joes. He can taste the alcohol on your lips. And even though you both know this is wrong, neither of you stop.
“Let’s get you into bed.” Joe breaks the miss and helps you from the floor. “C’mon.” He pulls back the covers and helps tuck you in.
“Will you stay with me?”
“Without a doubt.” Joe climbs into bed next to you, continuing to sooth you to sleep.
As you slept soundly, Joe cried breathlessly next you, remembering your 3 year long relationship. People always say you’re lucky to be friends with each other after how things ended and everything you’d been through, but he wasn’t feeling lucky right now at all.
You woke up the next morning, a heavy arm thrown across your waste. The room was still dark and you tried to remember who was here with you.
“Morning.”
Relieved to hear Joes voice, you rolled towards him. “What time is it?”
“I don’t know.” He said, but his voice didn’t sound groggy like yours.
“Were you awake?”
“What?” He laughed. “No.”
“You were totally watching me sleep.”
“Nope, that would be creepy.” He denied it again, pulling you closer.
“As much as I’m enjoying this,” you sighed, “you need to go.”
“What?” A confused Joe asked, his grip loosening around your body.
“I’m not sure of much right now, and I don’t really recall what happened last night, but this…” you paused, “this can’t happen.”
“You called me saying you needed my help.” Joe reminded you. “We spent all night talking about him until you fell asleep.”
You furrowed your brows, the memory slightly coming back.
“And you kissed me.” He whispered, barely loud enough for you to hear. “Did you want to kiss me last night?”
“Last night was a mistake, Joe. I-“
“I didn’t ask you if it was a mistake.” He interrupted. “I asked if you wanted to kiss me.”
You both sat in silence for a minute. “Yeah. I did.” You roll back towards him. “I miss us.” You confessed.
Joe pressed his lips to your again. You could feel his smile as you kissed.
“What if we’re just fooling ourselves into thinking this can work again?” You pulled away. “What if we’re trying to rekindle something that’s long gone?”
He pulled you closer. “We’ve never been over. Even when I was thousands of miles away for weeks at a time and you hated me. We weren’t over. You can feel it between us now. We’re meant to spend forever together.”

Surprise
Joe Burrow x Reader
You have a big surprise for Joe on his birthday
Tumblr media
“Since it’s my birthday, think we could just stay in bed all day?” Joe mumbled, half awake, his body intertwined with yours under the crisp sheets.
“And who would run practice?” You giggled and forced your sleepy eyes open.
“No one. They’ll just cancel it. We can lose the next 100 games if it means I get to spend all day with you in bed.” He kissed the top of your head.
He was so warm, every part of you wanted nothing more than to stay snuggled up with him. “You don’t mean that, Joey.”
“Hmph.” He pouted, pulling himself from bed and heading to the bathroom to get ready for practice.
In hopes of cheering him up, you followed close behind with some exciting news. “I have a surprise for you when you get home.”
“You do?” His eyes lit up a little kids. “Why can’t you tell me now?”
“Because.”
“Because?” He questioned.
You looked at him, his excited face so hopeful he’d convinced you to tell him early.
“Because?” He asked again, eagerly.
You gave him a flirtatious smile and headed out of the room.
“Get back here!” He ran after you, wrapping you in a big hug from behind. With his arms around your waste he whispered “Tell me.”
“I’ll tell you when you get back.” You laughed, his breathe ticking your neck.
“You’re no fun.” He crossed his arms and headed back to the bathroom.
Joe came over and gave you a kiss as he headed out the door. “I’ll see you later.”
“Bye, Joey.” You called after him.
You spent the next hour getting ready, wanting to look your best for Joe on his birthday. As the time ticked closer to the end of practice, your heart began to race. What if he doesn’t like the surprise? A million thoughts run through your head as you finish wrapping the gift and place it on the bed. The front door opening interrupts your thoughts.
“I’m home!” Joe yells through the house.
You run through the living room to meet him. “Welcome back, birthday boy! Is it finally time to celebrate?” You wrap him in a big hug.
He raises an eyebrow. “I think it’s time for that surprise.”
You laugh knowing he must’ve thought about it all of practice. “Follow me.” You take his hand and lead him up to your room. “Close your eyes!” You instruct him as you get closer to your room and help him to sit on the edge of the bed. “Open!” You shout.
He looks around the empty room, a puzzled expression crossing his face. “Where is it?” He laughs.
“So.. that’s the problem.” Your hands begin to shake. “It won’t arrive for another 7 months.”
He only got more confused. “What would take 7…” as his words drifted, so did his eyes. They left your face and made your way to your stomach. He seemed to expect you to look different. But you’d done your best to conceal it.
He stared for what felt like an eternity. You waited for him to smile, or laugh, or jump up and down in excitement. He sat there frozen and it started to scare you.
“Joey?” You reached out and grabbed his hand. “Are you alright?”
His eyes filled with tears and never left your stomach. “I’m not sure how, but I love you 100 times more now.” He said in awe. He finally looked up at you. “Are we really going to be parents?”
You nodded, feeling all of the emotions rush through you. You pull the small box you had wrapped from under your pillow and hand it to him. “Surprise.” You whisper, trying not to cry.
He opens the box containing the positive pregnancy test and stares at the screen.
“You’re going to be a dad.” You beam.
Finally, Joe rises from the bed and wraps you in the biggest hug. “This is the best birthday ever!”

Strangers
Joe Burrow x Reader
You and Joe try to work things out
Tumblr media
“Dear Me,” you scribbled into your journal, humming along to the soft music at the coffee shop. “He’s leaving for the NFL, you still have one more year of college. Let him go. He will find bigger and better things than you. Let him find a nice girl he can bring to games. There will be someone he can be happy with. Yes, he’s sweet, and caring, and handsome, but he is also grown up.” You set your pen down, taking a sip of your coffee, hoping it would help the lump in your throat disappear.
The door of the coffee shop quietly swung open. You glanced up, as you always did out of curiosity. You know what they say, curiosity kills the cat. At that exact moment, you were the cat. Joe walked in, with confidence, in a jacket you had gotten him a few months ago. He smiled at strangers around him, and then gave you the same smile. That’s when you realized, you were now a stranger to him.
You quickly flung the front cover of your leather journal shut, stuffed your pen into your purse, and did anything to make yourself look busy. Two hands quickly met the top of the table you were sitting at.
“Hey.” Joe cleared his throat.
“Oh, hey.” You looked down, doing your best to make sure he couldn’t see the tears that had formed in your eyes as you wrote about him just moments earlier.
“Writing?” He asked, pulling out the chair across from you and taking a seat.
“Studying.” You lied.
You sat in silence for what felt like an eternity. Both of you searching for the right words to say. You hadn’t seen Joe in nearly 3 months now. And it had been some of the most emotionally draining 3 months of your life. Neither of you really officially ended things, but you both knew. “Goodbye.” “I love you.” “I’m sorry.” “Good luck.”
“Can we talk?” Joe croaked out.
“I don’t think there’s really much to say.”
“I’m sorry.” He reached over and grabbed your hands. “Please, just give me a minute. I need closure.”
You hated that word. Somewhere in the back of your brain, you hoped he would promise you a future and things would go back to the way they were. But here he was, confirming that things were officially over.
“It’s been 76 days. I’ve spent every single one thinking about you.” He brushed his thumb across the top of your hand as he spoke. “I thought I knew what I wanted. Becoming an NFL quarterback. Being the most popular, most liked person in the room. I thought those things would make me happy. And they did….temporarily. But you,” he paused, clearing his throat, “You’re the only thing that could make me happy forever.”
You choked out a little half laugh, half sob. “Please don’t say stuff like that. We both know it’s not true.” You shook your head.
“Please don’t play the victim and act like I’m the bad guy.” Joe scoffed, the tone in his voice quickly changing. “Don’t forget, you’re the one that said things weren’t going to work.”
“What was I supposed to say when you said you were leaving?” You pulled your hands away from his. “Don’t leave? I love you?” You questioned.
He shrugged and let out a frustrated breath. “I don’t know. Okay? But I thought you’d say something.”
“I’m sorry.” You swallowed the lump in your throat, the anger in his voice was making you nervous.
“Do you want to try again?” He asks barely loud enough for you to hear him.
You can’t answer, your throat is too thick with emotion.
“If you want me to beg, I will. If you want me to jump through flaming hoops, then bring them on. I’ll spend every waking hour I have until I have to report to training camp proving to you how badly I want you.” He looked away, blinking back a few tears.
You felt your own lips start to tremble. His words are painful and beautiful at the same time.
“Every word is the truth. I want you back. I can’t imagine starting this new journey without you.” He said. “I fucked up letting you go. I still love you.”
You swallow a sip of coffee, hoping the caffeine will fill you with the right words to say. “Even though I have another year of College left?”
He smiles. “My rookie year is going to be chaotic, and busy. It’ll be better for both of us if you’re busy too, dontcha think?”
He makes a fair point.
“We can make it work. I know we can. The question is, do you want to try again?” He pauses. “Do you want me?”
You can see the fear that you might reject him in his eyes. His hands are trembling on the table. His breathes are shallow and quick. The one thing he is confident about though, is wanting to make things work with you.
“I want you.”

You and Joe go on a first date
Tumblr media
Joe hums softly to the loud music filling the locker room as he dries his hair with his towel. His phone vibrates on the counter, causing a quick break in the music as he was connected to the speakers. A smile instantly spreads across his face.
“Who’s texting you, Bro?” Ja’Marr peeks over his teammates shoulder. “Who ever it is has you smiling mad hard right now.” He laughed.
“It’s my date.” Joe sent off a quick text before directing his attention back to getting ready.
“Ooooh that’s right. Mystery girl and Joe have a date tonight.” Ja’Marr jokes.
“When are you gonna let us all in on who this girl is?” Sam makes his way over, joining the conversation.
“Probably never.” Joe gives them a big smile. “I know how you two act around girls. I don’t need any of that.” He laughs, giving his friends a hard time.
“I guess we’ll just have to crash his date then, won’t we, Ja’Marr?” Sam asks.
“No way. Absolutely not. I actually like this girl and I don’t need any funny business going on.” Joe shook his head.
“Our little Joey has a crush!” Ja’Marr teases, gaining a laugh from Sam.
Joe rolls his eyes. “I’m gonna be late.” He waves bye to the guys before throwing on his hoodie and heading out to his car.
On the other side of town, you were on the phone with your best friend.
“I’m so nervous.” You whined into the phone for what seemed like the 100th time.
“You’ll be fine! It’s just Joe.” She laughed, trying to reassure you again.
“Exactly. It’s Joe.” You laughed. “He just texted me, he’s on his way! I gotta go!” You quickly hung up the phone and finished getting ready.
You and Joe had been friends for a little under a year now. But over the past few weeks, you’ve really started to see as more than a friend. And tonight, he was taking you out.
Your neighbors dog barked outside, signaling someone was here. Your heart raced as you made your way outside, down the sidewalk, and into Joes car.
“Hey Joe.” You climbed in, pulling the seatbelt across your shoulder.
“Hey.” He smiled, checking his rear view mirror as he back down the drive. “Sorry I’m late. Practice ran a little long. But I have a fun night planned, so hopefully I can make it up to you with that.” His mouth was running a mile a minute, a sure sign that he was just as nervous as you are.
“What do you have planned for us?” You asked, looking over in his direction.
“It’s a surprise.” He looked over and smiled back.
You and Joe made small talk for the remainder of your drive, before he slowly pulled off the road and began following a twisting road through the trees.
“Here we are.” He put the car in park before looking over at you. “The top of the world.” He smiled.
“It’s beautiful up here.” You admired the view.
“Follow me.” He unbuckled and climbed out, heading towards the rear of the car, you following close behind. He opened the trunk of his SUV to display a full set up of blankets and pillows. “I thought we could watch the sunset.” He shrugged.
“Joe!” You exclaimed. “This is adorable.” You admired the set up, causing him to smile.
You both climbed in, getting comfy, his arm around your shoulder and your head resting on his.
“Before I forget,” he paused, sliding his pillow to the side pulling out a bottle of wine and 2 plastic cups. “Cheers.” He smiled, handing you a full cup and screwing the lid back onto the bottle.
“This is so perfect.” You assured him.
Suddenly you’re struck by the reality of what you’re doing here. Sitting here, spending time with Joe with so much time to waste. You glance his way and catch him staring.
“You’re not watching the sunset.” You said.
“No.”
You blush, your expression perplexed. “You love sunsets.”
“I love watching you more.” He pulls you and snuggles you closer to him, your head on his chest and your legs a tangled mess under the blankets. “Your cold.” His hand runs along the goosebumps on your arm.
“No, I’m ok.” You lie, trying not to shiver.
“Take this.” Joe slips his hoodie off, his shirt underneath rising with it, showing off his toned abs.
He helps you slide into his sweatshirt and bundles you into him. “That better?” He asks, placing a kiss on your forehead.
“Mhm.” You look up and smile, connecting your lips to his.
You stay snuggled together, sneaking kisses, laughing, and getting to know each other better for quite a while. Before either of you can even realize, the sun has dipped low beyond the horizon and it was getting late.
“I should probably get you home.” Joe says, jolting you awake from a soft sleep.
“Is it that time already?” You asked.
“Its getting dark.” He said, acting as though the sun had just gone down, when in reality, you both knew it had been dark for a while. Neither of you wanted the night to end.
Joe helped you from the trunk, following you around to the passenger side and helping you in.
“What a gentleman.” You tease as he closes your car door.
“Thanks for a fun night.” You interrupted the silence of the drive home.
“No problem.” Joe smiles over at you, one hand on the steering wheel, the other tracing imaginary shapes along your thigh. Clenching his jaw, he forced himself to keep his eyes on the road and not on the way that your shorts were hidden beneath the hem of his sweatshirt. “Keep it.”
“Hmm?” You questioned.
“My hoodie.” He cleared his throat, tightening his grip on the steering wheel to keep himself from doing something reckless. “Hang onto it.”
“Why?”
He could feel your eyes on him, causing his arms to breakout in goosebumps.
He shrugged. “Because it looks really fucking good on you.”
