Actually, this deserves its own post because the way Abbott Elementary handled Melissa's character in this episode is genuinely some of the best dyslexia representation I have ever seen on TV.
She's not a little kid who overcomes her disability as an adult. Her dyslexia doesn't give her superpowers (weirdly common trope). She isn't portrayed as stupid by the show or the other characters because of it. She's a competent adult who has developed coping mechanisms to deal with her disability and is still shown to struggle sometimes despite that! Oh my god is that refreshing!
Also, Melissa being competitive about the reading challenge and Barbra's comment about how good she is at engaging kids in reading is totally recontextualized by the reveal that she has a learning disability and especially the reveal that she was probably teased for her LD as a kid (which I'm also so happy that they brought up - I don't think most people realize how competitive elementary schools tend to make reading, and how shitty and ostracizing that can be for kids who struggle with it). Winning the book challenge is important to her because it's something she used to really struggle with. She's good at getting kids to read because she can relate to their challenges in a personal way. They directly tie her LD to her strengths as a teacher without it being fantastical or over-emphasized and I can't even begin to tell you how much I love it!
The bit at the end where she says "you know how sometimes I have to read things a few times" to Janine, in the break room with no students present is also a great scene because it shows her LD in an adult, professional context. It's a conversation that I, and every dyslexic person I know, has had with their co-workers at some point. I just love that they make a point of normalizing her LD in an adult workplace setting that's separate from the classroom and away from the kids.
This season has done an awesome job talking about disability generally but the choice to give not just a student, but one of the teachers an LD was an absolutely perfect move. I really hope this gets brought up in later episodes and isn't just a one-off.

yo…. when jet breaks in the tea shop and accuses zuko and iroh of beinh firebenders….
do you think any of the patrons looked at zukos scarred face - obviously done by a firebender - and immediately think jet was an asshole? like
jet: hes a firebender!!!!
patrons, thinking about the backstory they concocted for zuko and iroh where their home was invaded by firebenders and they barely survived with their lifes so they could come and have a peaceful life selling tea in a city the war doesnt touch:

Now, I’m not saying romantic relationships are inferior, or that they’re useless, or that you being in one or that you shipping some characters romantically is Bad or something off the walls like that. What I’m saying is that two people (or characters, since we’re talking shipping here) can be just as devoted to each other, love each other just as deeply, mean just as much to each other while being in a platonic relationship. The end point of caring about someone doesn’t have to be romance.
Friendship isn’t a stepping stone between strangers and romantic partners, it’s a different path. And you can follow that path as deep into the wood as a romantic one if you want, and neither is inferior to the other, they just have different views.

I’m going to talk about being transfem and butch.
I get misgendered in public a lot. Never cruelly. Just a lot. Which makes sense.
I’m 190lbs of muscle with a deep voice. Which I enjoy. Typically I’m wearing leather and jeans. The vast majority of people are going to gender me as male because my gender presentation is inherently masculine, and other parts of me are also masculine.
This is a problem that cis butches face regularly, and that fact helps me cope with constantly being read as male. But it aches the most when I see other lesbians/queer women.
I don’t really get to be ‘publicly’ lesbian. If I see another dyke on the street, I’m just a man. There’s no quiet solidarity there. There’s no recognition.
Femmes don’t preen under my gaze at a bar. Instead, I have to walk up and explain my whole situation and hope that they’re cool. Which is rough, because sometimes they’re not. Or, worse, they say they are, but they aren’t. Which results in a lot of wasted time for everybody.
It takes a supreme amount of self-confidence to walk up to a cute girl and boldly declare yourself also a girl in a voice that immediately gives some kind of lie to what you’re saying.
So, baseline, I’m pushing and establishing boundaries. I’m already testing her just by talking to her. Which makes flirting hard, you see? If I feel like I’m already toeing a line, then I’m not going to make a sly comment about her dress. I am, instead, going to be as non-threatening as possible.
This is a great way to make new friends and acquaintances (I have a lot), but a terrible way to get laid.
So, my point is that if you meet a transbutch girl understand that she’s already putting up a LOT of work just be here. So, you know, maybe touch my her arm and give me her a compliment if you’re interested.

it's so weird how people will like. idk how to explain it. it's the "pkmn is going down the toilet because japanese business culture is based on Strict Hierarchy and Honoring Your Superiors ... its because of their Inscrutable Backwards Oriental Ways......" i think corporate greed pushing out unfinished glitchy messes is actually very easy to understand without being weird and racist about it. when cyberpunk 2077 came out as a half-baked garbage bag people weren't talking about European Culture Causing This

Guide To Fae/Faer Pronouns
Tumblr media
[Banner transcription: “This is an educational post! No discourse, please! Thank you!” End transcription.]
Requested by: @kintrash413
Fae/faer pronouns are the most commonly used noun-self pronoun to my knowledge. Their coining can be found here.
Complete Set:
Objective: Fae
Subjective: Faer
Possessive Adjective: Faer
Possessive Pronoun: Faers
Reflexive: Faerself
To use common pronouns as a reference, Google search “types of pronouns.” You’ll find charts that break down common pronouns into objective, subjective, etc.
Examples:
He is my friend  →  Fae is my friend I saw him yesterday  →  I saw faer yesterday This was his request  → This was faer request That book is his  → That book is faers He loves himself → Fae loves faerself
She is my friend  →  Fae is my friend I saw her yesterday  →  I saw faer yesterday This was her request  → This was faer request That book is hers  → That book is faers She loves herself → Fae loves faerself
Common Mistakes:
Fae/faer is singular unless otherwise specified
Say “fae is/fae’s” not “fae are/fae’re”
This mistake is made a lot because fae/faer has a similar vowel sound to they/their
Don’t assume two pronoun types are conjugated the same way just because they are in another pronoun set
For example, the possessive adjective and possessive pronoun in he/him/his are both “his,” but in fae/faer, they are not the same, similar to other sets like she/her and they/them
That’s all! Feel free to send an ask if you have any questions, or if you need help with another set of pronouns!  *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
