It should’ve been me, Han Yoojin thinks. He does not need power or fame, but if he could keep his brother in his shadow just a little longer, that would be enough.
hello hi I have tumbled headfirst into the sctir fandom. these unhinged disaster siblings have my ENTIRE heart. more importantly, so does this fic by @loosingmoreletters which you need to drop everything and read IMMEDIATELY

People forget that the feral sibling had to learn it from SOMEONE.
Love Yoojin for upholding the Proper Damage Standard for baby bro. He knows, and he wouldn’t accept anything less.
This pair of siblings really...

In the recent chapter,
Han Yoojin : Have lunch with me.
Song Taewon : I refuse.
Han Yoojin : We can talk shit about Sung Hyunjae.
Song Taewon : ...So what are we having for lunch?
I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE MANHWA 😂😂
Sung Hyunjae-ssi, just how much did you bully poor Director Song for him to become like this...

Han Yoojin as a person is incredibly good at coping with everything that has happened and is happening to him, which you can tell by the fact the he literally goes blind from stress the moment his L-rank fear resistance is turned down.

okay listen I think it would be the funniest of Han Yoojin’s reaction to Yoohyun leaving would’ve been getting his high school degree and speed running law school so he can specifically get himself into a position where Yoohyun can’t avoid him. he has the weirdest relationship with haeyeon as a guild, somewhere between “this guy is obviously favoring them” and “they’ve had to resubmitted their taxes like 5 times because he keeps denying them because of typos”
and he can’t be blackmailed out of the position because Han Yoojin being who he is, the other S-Classes would find him fucking hilarious. His superior get advised to fire him, 10 minutes later gets a call from Sung Hyunjae like “why isn’t my favorite government official breathing down my neck about tax evasion :/“

something so devastatingly tender and painful about yoo joonghyuk stopping kim dokja from stabbing himself (after the whole oldest dream reveal) paralleling how twsa saved kim dokja when he was a teen. yjh was bleeding and his veins were bulging because he GRIPPED the unbroken faith’s blade so damn tight to stop kdj in time. it would have taken a lot of force since kdj put “every ounce of energy” in that strike. in twsa, his pain and desperation were—in a way—what protected kim dokja. it’s a small detail but i’m sobbing over it because kim dokja has always been saved by yoo joonghyuk and in his efforts to repay him, kim dokja can’t see how yjh just so desperately wants him to be safe i’m losing my mind

orv is horrible in that you fully trust the narrator. even by the end, you know kim dokja is a liar to both himself and therein his readers. but you still choose to believe his words. you choose to love him because he is so fundamentally wounded by the narrative. it's hard not to fall for a narrator of whom you know has no capacity to love himself, despite being love's incarnate.
it's just because he believes in readers that the readers believe him.

"Why him, and not me?"
Because you gave up and stopped hoping. This might seem understandable for someone millenia old, someone who's died more than a thousand times, but the whole point of Yoo Joonghyuk is that he doesn't give up no matter what. He keeps hoping for the best, he stands up after a loss and keeps walking. He is an honorary Spider-man at this point. And this is exactly what young Kim Dokja needed: someone to show him that he can continue, no matter what horrors may lie ahead, no matter how tired, disillusioned and desperate he gets. He can overcome this, because Yoo Joonghyuk has been through worse and still chose to overcome this. The moment Yoo Joonghyuk stops, he is no longer the Yoo Joonghyuk that Han Sooyoung created for this sad, desperate, suicidal teenager (which is symbolically underlined by Yoo Joonghyuk choosing to call himself something different). True, he is no longer a character, he's broken out of his confinement... but he's also lost the essential part that mattered most to Kim Dokja, the sole reason behind his existence.
What is also interesting is that it's Kim Dokja who gave 1864!Yoo Joonghyuk the will to live again. Yoo Joonghyuk had to keep dying and returning again and again so that Kim Dokja lived, so that they eventually met and Kim Dokja could give Yoo Joonghyuk the hope that Yoo Joonghyuk had been slowly feeding to Kim Dokja through an IV for all these 13 years. This is why it's 1864!Yoo Joonghyuk, and not the Plotter.
(Although I do find it ironic that the Plotter basically gets an umambiguous happy ending with his friends and his adoptive child/sponsor/reason for existence, whilst 1864!Yoo Joonghyuk's suffering is far from over, and we don't even, strictly speaking, see if he's succeeded in bringing Kim Dokja back).

[ID: Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint fanart done in black, white, and red. Kim Dokja's hand opens a thick book which is floating in space. The left page features the definition of the French phrase "mise en abyme" and its definition, "placement at the escutcheon's center : depiction of the escutcheon itself within an escutcheon : image within an image : story within a story", along with a description taken from Wikipedia. The other side shows a deep cut-out in the book which reveals that the book contains a room lined with books that a young, bandaged Kim Dokja is standing in. Young Kim Dokja clutches a book to his chest and looks up distrustfully, standing in a pool of blood and casting the shadow of a Demon King. On his desk is a book open to the same scene depicted by the art. End ID] (Described by: @princess-of-purple-prose.)
