Four Cubes

Acrylic on canvas
I like how these cubes pour into each other, the ever changing within the seemingly solid and static.

Flight Fight Freeze
Acrylic on canvas
Using randomly cut card, I moved the brush quickly over the edge. Very quickly I was reminded of the ravens I've seen from my window, expertly navigating the air.

Washi tape on board
Continuing the jazz theme, just going in whatever direction the tape took me, and then at the last moments, adding an accent

Three in One
Pen on paper.
A simple overlay of three heads making one. I was originally going to fill the spaces with colour, but I found I couldn't. It's perfect as is.

Family Constellation, printed acrylic.
Part of the In Living Memory project, I worked with Anila Ladwa and the staff of Lewisham hospital's maternity ward to produce this piece, highlighting and celebrating the 'in/Visible Labour' that goes into helping the hospital stay open and welcoming for local people, especially when it faced illegal closure.

Super High Way is my working title.
Realities influence each other, and here technology, nature and the go between meet.
Painting of my nephew, Jahmel, whose wonderful afro gave me another opportunity to find the perfect poured paint skin from my library

My brother and I decided this week to try our hand at abstract art that is inspired by freeform jazz, which we both hate but appreciate how it widens the spectrum within which one works.
As I tried to post this, I was thrown out of the Tumblr page with a message 'we don't know what this is and how to deal with it', which is just perfect.

My sister gave me an old canvas, with a very abstract, dingy painting on it. "Do whatever you want with this."
There were some thick black lines on it, but that's where the similarities end. Had me scratching my head what to do with it, right up to the last minute, when I nearly gave up and cut out the central symbols. I'm glad I didn't.
I love the combination of geometry and religious iconography, with the stained glass glad window style.
There is a combination of 2 Adinkra symbols here;
Nya Gyidie... meaning faith and hope
Me Ware Wo.... meaning Commitment
So, I've called this piece Faith Squared. It's acrylic and gouache on canvas, using signature 'skins' for the Akan symbols.

First experience of neorugraphic art, with watercolour pens but not watercolour paper. This is after 2 one hour tube journeys. I'm definitely gonna do this again. Really nice doodling

The Scientist
Collage, mixed media
Enjoyed a collage session with the London Drawing Group last weekend.
Thought I'd display this landscape rather than portrait, which seems to give this a direction; my younger self heading into a future, questioning everything.

My Brother the Live Wire
gouache on canvas
Since I'd painted two other brothers this year, I had to make one more of Irvyn. So I made a special trip across town to take photos to inspire me, but in the end it was an old snap from some time ago that popped up and reminded me how much I loved it and him in it.
So, here it is as a final part of the Brothers triptych.
