The Pogonip ice fog was effectively blocking the light of the rising sun, while receiving light from the blue sky above. Sometimes developing a photo is a bit like opening up a present. The camera doesn't quite "see" a scene like we do, but when you restore shadow and highlight detail, the emotional response you had to a stunning moment returns, if only in some fraction of the original amount. Look up at the sky after 9:20pm tonight, to look for Perseid meteors. Even better after midnight! We’re out under the dark skies of Central Nevada, where the Open Summit app says we’ll also have minimal smoke. . . . #PerseidMeteorShower #astronomy #Astrophotography #photography #perseids (at Tonopah, Nevada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSfIEc0pDOX/?utm_medium=tumblr

Untitled - Self portrait looking out of a cave at the Milky Way on a dark starry night. Not a composite. All elements of this image were captured with a single press of the shutter. Nothing was moved, scaled or layered. (at Utah, USA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSS8H7Klh72/?utm_medium=tumblr

Eye on the Milky Way. Returning in the middle of the night, a photographer insisted on using too-bright panel lights to take 5-10 minute exposures for over an hour. I shot a panorama to kill time. (at Utah, USA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSH0myGpOKe/?utm_medium=tumblr
